Because Pete Cornish is a legend who builds custom pedalboards & stuff for lots of famous guitarists, and people like to own stuff with exclusive names that their heroes use. Most of use have done it with some bit of gear at some point. Apparently it's his wife that puts the cables together though, so I don't know if this would effect the price if it was common knowledge.

Lost all interest in playing bass & just played keyboards & guitar for years. I'm a lot happier with my bass playing now I've gone back to it because I don't obsess over it like I used to. Personal circumstances stop me from being able to commit to playing with other people at present, but the times I have done since picking up the bass again I've found I enjoy it more than ever, and am comfortable utilising my strengths on the instrument rather than just worrying about my weaknesses like I always used to.

So at present there are more people from Bristol wanting a Cardiff bass bash than people in Cardiff. Here's a thought - Why not have a Bristol bash bass that the one or two interested Cardiff people can come along to if they so wish?

I'm not going to spend countless hours pondering over different pickup & preamp combinations or whatever, because the difference to me will be fairly miniscule - I find that the old law of diminishing returns kicks in pretty rapidly when you take things to this level. You also tend to be permanently unhappy with your sound & wasting money on gear that you don't keep for more than a few weeks. I'd rather just say "That sounds OK" & play the f***ing thing.

Surely that bass can't weigh 28lb?

I used to use one of the very early Trace rigs (the black painted wood cabinet ones) when I had a Jaydee & was a bit of a Mark King obsessive. It did that sound great but I found it a bit insipid for anything else (much like the Jaydee bass actually). Found it quite unreliable for gigging too - it used to cut out quite often when it got heated up. I always hated that pre-shape switch sound that everybody seemed to love. Tried one of the newer SMX models years later & was astonished how bad it was - component quality was pretty poor & it was incredibly noisy, even at low levels. I think they'd moved production overseas by then.

What some people think is a great tone others will hate. I was at a jam session the other month where the house bass player was using a Precision through an SVT & I thought it sounded bloody awful - boomy, farty & indistinct. There were other players there who were wetting themselves with delight over it though. Doubtless those same players would hate the clarity & definition of My EBS combo & Zon basses. There are also varying degrees of "caring" about your sound. I've never obsessed about it like some people do on here - the amount of gear that people go through in the quest for the mythical "great tone" never fails to amaze me. I've only had four amps/combos in 32 years of playing, and the reasons I sold one to buy the next were all mainly practical reasons & had little to do with the sound.

I'm 46 with a herniated lumbar disc & I recently bought the heaviest combo I've ever owned. I just point at my back & get other people to move it.

It's just not cost effective to have a wide range of interesting colour options available on instruments that are aimed at people with incredibly conservative/traditional tastes. The large majority of Fenders sold are probably sunburst ones. It's a real shame because some of the Fender custom colours are fantastic.

If you're going to do it properly you need to do it on a tape loop like the original.

I've played a lot of Wals & briefly owned one. I swapped one of my Rickenbackers for one in the early 80's and was so unimpressed with it I swapped back again a week later. There was nothing "wrong" with it, I just didn't get on with it. They are nicely made basses but I have to say I really don't get the mythological status that has built up around them, and certainly can't believe the money they change hands for. I can't help but wonder how much of this is due to Wal dying, and would they be as sought after today if he was still alive. At the end of the day they're like any other bass - some people won't like them for various reasons but for some they will be the ultimate electric bass.

Just bought a Peterson Stroboflip from Graham - great price & delivered pretty quickly. (Also bought a couple of EBS pedals from him a few months ago but forgot to leave feedback - no problems with that deal either).

I have a fretless but don't have, or any interest in having, an acoustic bass of any kind.
