1. Once a year is enough to use lemon oil, and then only a small amount. Using it too much can make wood turn brittle. I hardly ever clean my fingerboard with anything - just a quick rub down with a cloth when I'm changing strings & once a year a going over with WD40, which is what Joe Zon recommends for his phenowood fingerboards.
2.
I've sent them a mail asking how exactly they value these at a fiver shy of a grand!!!!!
You get a lead and an Allen key with it - surely that makes it even more of a bargain?
3.
These were coming up all the time on Ebay about 5-7 years and not selling, even for that price.
Can't say I'm surprised. When the benchmark bass is still considered to be a bloody precision or jazz something this different won't get a second look from the majority of players, regardless of how good it is. I'd snap this up if I had the cash, unfortunately I'm more skint than I've ever been in my life at the moment.

5. This is just awesome: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rare-1990-ZETA-P...=item3a69031827
6.
I'm sure it's possible, but what's the point when velcro is already a pretty good 'mousetrap'?
I just happen to have lots of magnetic strip knocking around the house and a tin of magnetic paint from some project the kids were going to do that never materialised. I was just thinking aloud when I started the thread really, and wondered what other people thought. I still might give it a go when I've got some spare time. It won't have to be able to withstand loads of abuse as I don't gig anymore, it's just a way of keeping them all neat in one place rather than plugging & unplugging all the bloody things any time I want to use them. I also happen to hate Velcro!
7. Robert Calvert - "Captain Lockheed & the Starfighters"
8.
Sensible!!
Sensible is my middle name. I'd prefer my middle name to be "Crazy Badass Rock 'n' Roll Mutherf***er" but there you go....
9. I was thinking of building a pedalboard, but instead of using Velcro to hold the pedals I'd paint it with magnetic paint & use stick-on magnetic strip on the base of the pedals. This seems like a good idea to me but I've never heard of anyone else doing it so I wondered why not. Will the magnetism cause any problems with interference or damage the circuits in the pedals in any way? Apologies to the electronics experts out there who will no doubt think this is a really stupid idea!
10.
Hah, so much for the rioting last night though ey?
There were a couple of houses set on fire in Canton (where I live!) by all accounts, but they were empty properties & the fires were dealt with before they got serious.
11. I used to use SIT strings on my Hamer 12 string bass when I had it & they were great.
12. Let's wait & see how all this rioting on the streets malarky pans out before deciding to gather loads of expensive bass equipment together in one place, eh?
13. If you want high end zing & burp check out EBS gear. Not cheap but bargains can be found. I got my EBS Gorm 350 watt combo as ex-demo for £500 & it's superb. I'm listening to Pat Metheny on radio 2 as well.
14.
I never knew Jaco died from beating beaten up. I thought he was stabbed. Can someone explain how he died.
He was trying to get into a late bar in Fort Lauderdale & was beaten into a coma by the bouncer. He was pronounced dead nine days later.
15.
Japan seem to be making better Fenders than the Americans right now.
They always have. There's a rather lovely Mike Lull 5 string jazz on Ebay at the moment: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mike-Lull-5-stri...=item2eb6d4b2b3
16. You'll need a hi-viz jacket & steel toecap boots.
17.
I like him. He's an awesome player and he actually speaks a lot of sense.
This.
18. I play my fretless with a pick sometimes - so what? I've seen Colin Edwin from Porcupine Tree play his Wal fretless with a pick too.
19. My main guitar/bass to amp lead I bought sometime in the mid 80's. It's a Monster cable but I changed one of the jacks to a right angled Switchcraft one. It's the lead I used for all my gigs (when I was stupid enough do that sort of thing) & I never had a any problems with it.
20. "Last Chance on the Stairway" & "New Religion" would be my choices.
21. Saw them in Cardiff last night & they were superb. Completely sold out - never seen the CIA so packed. Seriously sweaty gig! The sound was fantastic - clear as a bell & perfectly mixed, if a little too polite volume-wise. Enjoyed what I saw of Airbourne as well, only caught about the last 20 minutes of their set. They had a bloody good sound too. A very enjoyable evening.
22.
in my book the coolest ever bass player is this woman.. in looks and playing..
When I saw the picture you posted the first thing that came into my mind was:
23. Excellent stuff! Guthrie is a f***ing monster player!!
24. I thought there was a Steinberger in the Smithsonian as well.
25.
Definitely Mr Levin on this, played on a P bass with a disposable nappy pushed under the strings according to the man himself.
"The Super Wonder Nappy Sound", as documented in Levin's excellent book "Beyond the Bass Clef".
