Didn't Duff McKagan use a modified Jazz? Ed
No, it was a stock mid 80's Japanese Jazz bass special.
 3.
Problem is I've not really got any major need to read except for my own interest.
I can't think of a better reason for doing anything. Learning to read & getting my theory knowledge up to a decent level is something I've wanted to do for decades, all that has stopped me is my own innate laziness. Even though I'm at a stage now where there's less of a practical reason for learning it than I've ever had I'm going back to school in the autumn to start formally taking my theory grades.

 5. Just got back from the NEC gig, which was fantastic even though the sound wasn't as good as the last two tours to my ears. Geddy seemed to be having problems with his monitoring for the first two songs & his vocals suffered as a result. They also seemed to be having some timing problems with some of the sequenced stuff, nothing catastrophic though. His bass sound was (IMO) ghastly as always but he was playing like a demon. Loved it & I'll be there to see them next time around regardless of ticket price.
 6.
I cut out all the pictures from that and made a collage and stuck it on my bedroom wall! I can't believe that 30 years ago, Bilbo might have seen me having a w***
Maybe that's what turned him to jazz....
 7.
I was in the first edition of Keraang
The one with Angus on the cover? I'm impressed!

 9.
I can't understand why, when a thread starts "I want a Fender", why so many folk can only reply by trying justify their own (non Fender) tastes and basses.
I can't understand why if somebody has decided they want a Fender & absolutely nothing else will do why they have to start yet another f***ing thread about it.
 10. Wow, an Emerald! Don't see these very often. That's a beautiful bass.
 11.
Interesting looking beastie! Does it have a phenolic or wood fingerboard?
Phenolic.
Does it have a truss rod or is it rock solid like an early Status?
No truss rod. It is indeed rock solid & one of the nicest necks I've ever played, quite wide but incredibly thin front to back.
Interesting approach to the double ball end problem.
It also gets rid of the old "can't put a headless bass on a wall mounted hanger" problem!
 12. I have been able to touch type for years & it's not made any difference in my playing ability that I can see.
 13.
That inlay at the 12th is yummy.
It's actually at the 13th fret for some reason.
 14. I did some recording with it yesterday & got the best sound I've ever had. I'm loving this bass so much!
 15.
I hope this is irony, cos I've always found just the opposite! Bass players are always forward thinking and looking to try new equipment ie, graphite necks, composite bodies, new cab designs, class D amps etc etc. Guitarists can't seem to get beyond a strat, tele or les paul through a valve amp, all 50's technology!
You've only got to read this thread & the many similar ones to see that this just isn't the case - bass players by & large are just as bad as guitarists when it comes to luddite mentality.
 16.
From what I saw of late 70s Fenders, they all appeared to have been made on Friday afternoon. One looking like the example in here would have been one of the better ones.
But all the great players use one & they've been on all those Motown records & they sound great no matter what music you play & Churchill used one to defeat the Hun & Elvis held one in one of his sh*t films & drone wheeze fart etc. etc. etc........
 17.
Sei Flamboyant Offset 5-string
WOW!
 18.
This is the only version of this in my house
Fixed.
 19. Do you mean "do it yourself" price or "send it to someone who knows what they're doing price"? I got a quote from Simms last year for refinishing a body in Burgundy Mist Metallic - £249, which I thought was pretty good considering the quality of their work.
 20. Get the neck relief as flat as possible & then if the strings need to be higher or lower adjust the string height at the bridge. The "mwah" thing will be dictated by the action - the higher the action the less mwah. There will be a sweet spot where the mwah is good but not overwhelming, if the action is too low the notes will bloom & choke and it will sound pretty sh*te.
 21.
Back in around 1991 or 92 I can remember speaking to someone at a Fender distributor who told me that the then new Mexican Strats and Precisions were assembled in Mexico from USA parts, but that it was only a temporary arrangement, so it was a good time to buy. Any truth in it, or was it just a sales pitch ? My early Mexican Precision plays and sounds great, mut admit the neck aint a perfect fit in the pocket though.
If the neck pocket is sh*t then it was probably assembled from US parts.
 22. I've found that taking strings off & putting them on again can make them sound brighter again for a while; maybe slackening them right off & then returning to tension clears some of the crud caught in the windings & gives 'em a bit more life. (Just my personal observations on the matter - no scientific basis for them......).
