1. I've got Gotohs on one of my Zons & Schallers on the other - to be honest I don't think there's much to choose between them quality-wise.
 2.
I only use 1 or 2 sets of DR strings in a year (for the last 10 years or so) and I've never had a problem.
I've gone through far more than that in a week just trying to find a set that weren't f***ed. (That's mail order as well as from a local shop so it wasn't just a case of one place having a faulty batch. One very well know online string retailer told me they send more sets of DR strings back because of faults than any other brand).
 3.
What kind of lead would I need to power my spector with the phantom power?
Just a stereo jack-to-jack lead as far as I know.
 4.
To be fair, it was CS-built.
Fender Custom Shop = screwed together by an American rather than a Mexican.......
 5.
Thanks very much dude, ive heard nothing but good things about DR strings so I'm going to give them a go.
So you haven't read the posts about their quality control being sh*t & getting dud strings again & again? I stopped using them (on bass & acoustic guitar) for this reason & my local shop stopped stocking them because they were fed up with the failure rate. I use Labella's now ("Slappers" & "Deep talkin' bass") - half the price & never had any problems at all. They last a long time too.
 6.
Also greatest moment; literally the moment he hands me his bass, I plant the headstock straight into the wall. Great start...
Did you ask for a discount due the the headstock damage?
 7. Bollocks, I've only just seen this - I would have come & seen you if I'd known before. Sorry about that!
 8. I REALLY don't need another four string but if nobody bids on this & there's no reserve.........
 9. You should have got that kid to move out of the way before you started to spray it.
 10.
Well. With new, you know there are no problems that could have arisen from previous owners messing with it (i.e, a fekked trussrod, broken stuff).
The most trouble I ever had with an instrument was one that I bought new. Within a couple of months the pickups had died & the finish started to peel off the body. It was covered by a warranty but it was a real pain getting the company (GIBSON!!) to honour it. The nightmare I went through with that guitar put me off buying new forever.
 11. I think this is pretty lovely: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Rare-Emex-Londaxe-Ba...=item20b92c65ab Anyone seen these before?
 12.
Alembic Series 1 graphite.
Oooh, that's NICE!
 13.
Gigs and an audience - its all pointless otherwise.
For you maybe - personally that is the least important part for me. I want to be involved in writing, playing & hopefully recording music that I will find fulfilling & be proud to be a part of; what anybody else thinks of it I really couldn't care.
 14. Uninspired & uninspiring pretty much sums me up at this stage.
 15.
wasn't he in levitation too ?
Yes - all three members of Darkstar were in Levitation.
 16.
The problem with a lot of fretless players is they put too much vibrato onto the notes and slide in and out of everything.
I was going to say this as well - don't overdo the slides & vibrato!! Get your intonation sorted out first - many fretless players use big vibrato & lots of slides to try & disguise their dodgy intonation (me included!).
 17. "Think for yourself" - The Beatles.
 18.
don't have nightmares kids.
I thought that was a picture of Everything But The Girl.
 19. Anything apart from Fenders, Rickenbackers & Stingrays - same as always really.
 20. Great stuff - Kings X & Filter are two of my favourite bands. Your singer is f***ing superb!
 21. I've played one once & it wasn't a bad bass for the money, the bottom line though is that it's definitely a budget instrument. I wouldn't say it was on a par with Japanese Fenders I've played which have all been excellent quality-wise. I think you'd notice quite a big drop in quality if you're moving from that Maverick 5 string you're selling to one of these. I'd certainly try it before you buy it if possible £400 seems a bit steep to me - I've seen them go for £250 - £300.
 22.
IIRC there were only two Veleno basses made so finding one to play will be a bit tricky...
That's right - Kasims Ankh bass & this one:
I was also considering 50 W&W basses to play before you died - inspired by the recent BGM article. Anyone interested?
ME! It's got to be better than the tedious pile of firewood in the BGM article.
 23. My Trace Elliot stack died on me once during a gig. I was still coming out of the PA as I was DI'd so I just asked the soundman to give me some more bass through my monitors.
 24. Time this thread was given a bump - must be lots of people who've never seen the wonders contained within.... I've also finally managed to find a decent photo of Kasim Sulton with his John Veleno Ankh bass:
