I'm offering up my RIM as a feeler.
Please rephrase this.
That is a stunning looking bass, I love the way the "tailpiece" is part of the body.
I know mine usually have wee marks.......
By "Wee" I'm hoping you mean "Small".
If not there are special pads you can buy in any branch of Boots.
The thing I find wierd about this whole 'roadworn' image thing is that I can't think of another consumer retail chain where people buy knackered looking merchandise...
People buy brand new jeans with holes & rips in them.
They're f***ing stupid as well.
Just ask a concert violin soloist how much he is prepared to pay for a 100 years old Stradivarius (we are talking £70-80 thousand average, by the way) and then you get an idea as to why to a professional orchestra violinist spending that money is essential to their job.
This is down to the prestige of owning a Stradivari instrument rather than any tangible superiority. There have been many blind tests carried out where so-called experts have been completely unable to correctly identify a Stradivari when play alongside other violins, both old & new.
There's just as much horseshit & snobbery in the world of vintage classical instruments as there is with vintage electric guitars & basses
No gas but curious about these:
I'd buy it quick if I were you, it's already starting to melt.
My old band supported them donkeys years ago - he was one of the first people I ever saw using a six string bass (Warwick Thumb as I recall).
Good player.
What is it with me?
I have nine very nice basses, and yet as soon as I log onto this site, I head straight to the "Basses For Sale" section.
How can I overcome this addiction?
Get a really sh*tty job that pays f***-all?
Works for me.
Not quite. It occupies the same frequency range but in every other way it's a 'bass'.
Surely it's the frequency range that determines if an instrument is in the bass register or not, rather than scale length or number of strings?
So a baritone guitar would have a lower range than a piccolo bass but would be classed as a guitar & a piccolo bass would be a bass even though it's in a higher register?
I have no idea why & to be honest I'm not sure I really care.
I have to say, nothing has ever made me want to put the work in & learn to read music & swot up on some theory more than some of the attitudes displayed over the last twelve pages.
Also, if not already mentioned, I think Colin Moulding of XTC used one.
He did indeed, along with an old Epiphone Newport.
By "Sophisticated" I'm assuming that Bilbo means harmonically and/or rhythmically complex.
A large number of musicians don't play complex music, they play 12 bar blues & fairly simplistic rock or pop music, which is pretty much just two or three different riffs strung together in predictable sequences.
(Apologies Bilbo if my assumption is wrong).
But the world can always use another honest man
Seriously, your "work ethic" comment got me thinking earlier; I know lots of musicians, and a lot of them are really good players. The two people I know that I really admire for their drive & the sheer amount of work they do as musicians are both excellent sight readers & possess an incredible amount of theoretical knowledge.
