1. My old band supported them donkeys years ago - he was one of the first people I ever saw using a six string bass (Warwick Thumb as I recall). Good player.
 2. Use Brasso. Put a bit on a soft cloth, rub it on the the bridge & the gold plate will come straight off.

 4.
What is it with me? I have nine very nice basses, and yet as soon as I log onto this site, I head straight to the "Basses For Sale" section. How can I overcome this addiction?
Get a really sh*tty job that pays f***-all? Works for me.
 5. He'd still pass as fashionable in Wales. And let's be honest; no matter how terrible he looks the bass is 1000 times worse.
 6. Lots of Tom Petty stuff to choose from too.
 7.
What? Give up playing music? Or take up another instrument?
Both.
 8. Drink lots of of red wine. Vomit on hardware. Leave overnight. Chrome will be completely f***ed in the morning - believe me, I've done it.
 9. Did you gig them? I only change strings about twice a year when not gigging, but two hours on a sweaty stage used to completely kill my strings.
 10.
Not quite. It occupies the same frequency range but in every other way it's a 'bass'.
Surely it's the frequency range that determines if an instrument is in the bass register or not, rather than scale length or number of strings? So a baritone guitar would have a lower range than a piccolo bass but would be classed as a guitar & a piccolo bass would be a bass even though it's in a higher register? I have no idea why & to be honest I'm not sure I really care.
 11.
It's basically a bass tuned on octave higher.
A guitar in other words.....
 12. I have to say, nothing has ever made me want to put the work in & learn to read music & swot up on some theory more than some of the attitudes displayed over the last twelve pages.
 13.
Also, if not already mentioned, I think Colin Moulding of XTC used one.
He did indeed, along with an old Epiphone Newport.
 14. By "Sophisticated" I'm assuming that Bilbo means harmonically and/or rhythmically complex. A large number of musicians don't play complex music, they play 12 bar blues & fairly simplistic rock or pop music, which is pretty much just two or three different riffs strung together in predictable sequences. (Apologies Bilbo if my assumption is wrong).
 15.
But the world can always use another honest man
Seriously, your "work ethic" comment got me thinking earlier; I know lots of musicians, and a lot of them are really good players. The two people I know that I really admire for their drive & the sheer amount of work they do as musicians are both excellent sight readers & possess an incredible amount of theoretical knowledge.
 16.
....I do believe that those who do read and learn theory have a stronger work ethic and are good role models.
This is certainly true for me - I can't read music & know hardly any theory & it's purely because I'm a lazy c***. Never made any excuses to the contrary - it's something I really wish I could do but I simply just cannot be arsed putting the work in. For the amount of time I've been playing (over 30 years) I'm a sh*t bassist & it's all down to extreme laziness. If somebody told me tomorrow that in order to keep playing I'd have to study theory & reading for an hour a day I'd just give up. I'd very probably be a sh*t role model too.
 17.
You then have to post saying like "where are you located?" I immediately lose interest and don't bother anymore. No one wants to put their address or road up publicly but come on! the town shouldn't be a problem.
Nobody has to post personal information publicly - that's what PMs are for. If having to ask someone where they are based is enough to make you lose interest in buying something then you obviously don't want the item that much in the first place.
 18.
I seeem to recall one was used on Buggles "Video killed the Radio Star", but could be wrong.......
That was an Aria SB1000.
Colin Edwin played a Wal on all the early Porcupine Tree stuff.
He still does play them on most of their stuff, though he uses Spectors now too. When I saw them last year he used the Wals 90% of the time.
 19. See if you can find a book called "The Complete Keyboard Tutor" by Terry Burrows. I found it really useful as a complete beginner to keyboards. It can usually be found quite cheaply in Bargain Book type shops.
 20. Started off playing bass, but started playing guitar as well later on. I've spent far more money on guitar equipment than I ever did on bass stuff. I was playing guitar pretty much exclusively about 8 years ago, but I've now come full circle, sold most of my guitar stuff & play bass 99% of the time now. I play keyboards as well.
 21.
If I had the money I'd be checking out the Chandler that's been on eBay for the last few months.
Yes, that's a beautiful bass. I'm surprised nobody has bought it, but I guess it's pretty limited in it's appeal.
 22. I used to have one of the Hamer CH12 import basses (one of the early Korean ones). It was a really good bass but obviously not as good as a US Hamer. The newer import models (I think they have "XT" on the truss rod cover) are made in China and are not meant to be anywhere near as good. I loved it - it was surprisingly easy to play and sounded awesome. I really regret selling it. I'm a serious Hamer nut anyway (had loads of USA Hamer guitars over the years) & so very biased but Hamer is THE 12 string bass IMO.
 23.
I was wondering if anyone has any particular views on reading.
Understatement of the year!
