1. There's every chance his bass was DI'd & was using the combo for monitoring - what you could hear out front might have had nothing to do with the Behringer.
2. Wow, that is rare. Body shape looks a lot like an old Washburn Falcon. I've got a Fylde acoustic & it's awesome.
3. Didn't go to the big one on Western Avenue, I went to the smaller one by IKEA. They haven't got that many left there now - depends what size you're looking for.
4.
It arrived today (Friday 4th March.) It an amazing piece of work. Truly it is. Not plugged it in an played it but I'll keep you posted on how I get on!
Well? What's it like then?
5. Just picked up a load - thanks for the tip-off!
6.
Yep, certainly is!
Excellent! Makes a change for you not to be playing in Cardiff in the depths of winter.
7. I see the Globe in Cardiff are advertising that you're playing there on Friday 26th August - is that a definite?
8.
I'm not sure I understand why this subject engenders such strong feelings. It's not as though there needs to be a "do you hate fretless/fingerstyle/pick playing/distortion/five string basses...?" poll is there?
The pro & anti "Five string basses" & "Pick playing" threads come along with tedious regularity.
9.
Anyone played a Zon here?
Yes, I have two. I play Legacy models rather than the Sonus as I don't like jazz bass profile necks. They are the best basses I've ever played or owned. I really only play four string but I'm sure the 5vers are just as good. I've got a Musicman Stingray 5 but I've never been happy with it - it feels like a toy compared to the Zons.
10.
how unfair is it that you can now afford all those toys you could only dream of when you were 21!
I'm 46 & I'm earning less money now than I was at 21.
11.
Well I can confirm that it was very nice in the flesh and not too heavy at all.
Can you be a bit more specific about the weight if possible please?
12. Rather lovely old greenburst Wal (John G Perry model?) with leather scratchplate: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Wal-Bass-Guitar-/180...=item2a0eee59f1
13. If I didn't have a herniated lumbar disc I'd be all over that.
14. I saved myself a massive £81.00 by deciding not to go.
15. It's not the slap technique itself that's at fault, it's just that lots of players have no taste. Remember: "Slap don't kill people - people kill people".
16. I'm so glad I didn't waste £64.00 on the train fare to London today......
17. Try any of the other Joni albums he plays on, especially "Hejira" - Jaco at his very best IMO. "Mingus" might be a bit too jazzy for you but that's pretty awesome too.
18.
My problem with it all is that I don't care. Sorry, but that's how it is! You CAN play bass really well? Great, good for you. You suck? Well, that's just bad luck, play some more and you'll get better.
That's pretty much it for me too.
19. After trying lots of different guitar strings I've settled on the GHS David Gilmour signature ones. They do a "Fender" & a "Gibson" set that mimic the gauges that Gilmour uses on his Strats & Les Pauls. I like them because the top strings are heavy but not too heavy & the bottom strings are quite a bit heavier than you'd get with a standard set of strings. They last a long time too. The "Gibson" set are 10.5 - 50, the "Fender" set are 10 - 48. I use quite heavy bass strings (45-110 & would use a much heavier G if I could get them) & don't find these gauges too flimsy at all. They're pretty cheap too - Stringbusters do them for about £4.30 a set.
20.
I keep watching that in the hope it will sell as a value guide for my Mockingbird that is very similar.
Is that your Mockingbird? f*** me, that's a stunner! Absolutely awesome basses.
21.
If your good enough to teach you don't need a book to tell you how to do it.
Being a good player is absolutely no guarantee that you'll be a good teacher.
22. I've seen Fairport dozens of times, both at Cropredy & on tour. Absolutely superb band & a great bunch of musicians (past & present) - Peggy is a legend & Simon Nicol is a very under-rated guitarist. Missed them in Cardiff last night as I just didn't have the money.
