1. Is there anyone going from the Cardiff area to the Dorset area by car next week that could take a bass combo with them? I've just sold my Ashdown combo to a fellow Basschatter in Shaftsbury & am seeing if there are any other options before he drives all the way here to pick the amp up. Cheers!
2.
(don't we ALL want to be good at harmonica?)
No.
3. Pictures please! Raspberry red Mouradian sounds pretty orgasmic to me.
4. My Chapman Stick, which I picked up cheap & sold in a moment of blind greed when I was offered almost twice what I paid for it. Secondhand Stick prices have gone nuts now & I'll never be able to afford another one. Both of my early 70s Black Rickenbacker 4001s; especially the one with the checkerboard binding, big crushed pearl inlays & toaster/horseshoe pickups. (I Only regret selling these two because of how much they sell for now - I paid £206 for one of them!)
5. Did anybody on here get this? Lorne? £454.00!!! I can't believe it! I was out when the bid ended last night but I thought it would go for at least £1000.
6.
Ask him if he thinks he has recorded anything to match "Footloose".
Absolutely f***ing priceless.
7. I just haven't got back from the Level 42 gig as I was somewhere else, so I have no idea what it was like.
8. I played one for 20 years (a purple 1989 B4 model) before getting rid of it about 18 months ago. It was a bloody fantastic bass & I only sold it because I just don't get on with skinny jazz profile necks anymore. I still have a Blade guitar (a pre-lawsuit Texas Standard strat) & that is also wonderful - far better than any Fender I've ever played. Here's a link to my original thread about it shortly after I first joined the forum: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...vinson+blade+b4
9. It's not the humidity I'd worry about over there, it's the termites.....
10. Love Gabriel/Hackett era Genesis. Love Wettons bass playing (especially with King Crimson). Do not love the combination of the two. The studio album of the "Genesis Revisited" stuff is dire.
11.
Ha ha ha ha ha That seems to be the general reaction and was the reaction I first had when I saw it. It is simply stunning and a joy to play. Hopefully, and I don't want to tempt fate here, but just hopefully my GAS has been satisfied for a long while
I'm calling dibs on first refusal for when you decide you still prefer your Yamahas....
12. Had a look at the new issue in W.H. Smiths yesterday. Says on the front cover that there's an interview with Colin Edwin from Porcupine Tree. "Great" thinks I, "something I actually have some interest in reading at last". Turns out the interview is over a year old & is completely uninformative anyway. Once again I didn't buy it as it just isn't worth the cover price IMO. I don't think I'd bother with it even if it was free to be honest. To be fair I think I've just read too many guitar/bass mags over the years & they all bore me now, not just BGM. The same people get interviewed over & over again without having anything new to say and I'm basically paying for adverts that show stuff I have absolutely no interest in buying anyway.
13. That's great - he's obviously really enjoying himself.
14.

Now that's just being bloody greedy. Now you've got a nice shiny new set you won't be needing those tatty old Taurus 1's anymore - I'll do you a favour & take them off your hands. £75.00 & I'll even come & get them. I'd LOVE a set of Taurus pedals. How do the new ones compare to the old ones?
15.
Looked to have plenty of wear on it, genuine rather than faked 'road worn' effected.
It could have been the red precision he used to play with Deep Purple, though he probably sold that to help pay his cocaine bill many years ago.
16.
Time for the Status owners to come over all smug with their carbon graphite-yness
And the Zon owners..............
17.
The seller points this out in the text.
I probably should have read it but I couldn't really be bothered.
18. If anyone is interested: Just received an email from EBS to say that Sound Technology are the new UK distributors for their stuff.
19. That scratchplate isn't original is it? Never seen a 70s precision with anything other than a plastic one. I wonder if the husband knows his collection is being sold on Ebay?
20.
I loved Tormato for a long time. Doesn't hold my attention now but some of the bass playing on that LP was stunning. Really strong songs, really great playing, great production.
It's a great album that, along with "Drama", really doesn't deserve the terrible reputation it's got. Squires "Harmonised Rickenbacker" sound on Tormato is wonderful, possibly my favourite bass sound of all time.
21. Both the Keys to Ascension albums are superb. They've actually just be re-released as a set with a DVD. (Which is a bit annoying as if I want the DVD I've got to buy the albums again.... )
22.
Didn't Berlin fill in for Tony Levin on some Anderson, Bruford, Wakeman & Howe live stuff? never got round to hearing it though. I recently downloaded a good quality bootleg from the Tormato tour, sounds like it's taken off the desk. No 'Going For The One' on it but some interesting stuff from the much maligned Tormato album.
Jeff Berlin is on the CD & DVD of ABWH's "An Evening of Yes Music Plus..." He joined the tour with two days notice after Levin contracted Hepatitis. Is your bootleg the "Twelve Towers at Dawn" one? Superb quality with a stunning version of "On the silent wings of freedom" I've had it on vinyl for years.
I'm sure I read somewhere that one of the band said the original Roundabout didn't have any bass on it at all, it was all done on guitars. Might have been off their tits on wacky backy though...
Squire doubled his bass part for "Roundabout" on one of Howes guitars.
