2. Just what you want if you go for a nice day at the beach - a bunch of f***ing hippies having a jam..........
3. Steve Harris (pretty much all the Iron Maiden stuff is written by him). Geddy Lee. Ross Valory.
4.
Lots of life is like that as you get older ....
Don't I just know it.........
5. If that dust had been glued on by a Fender "Master Builder" plenty of people would pay thousands for it.......
6.
I believe they are no longer made. But I could be wrong! They were called "superwounds" weren't they? The windings stopped an inch or so before the ball ending so that only the string's core rested on the bridge saddle. Fine if they were the only strings you used, but meant that you had to do a major set-up every time you switched to other strings...
You can't get them anymore, though LaBella "Supersteps" strings are the same design with the exposed core at the bridge. I was another Mark King obsessive, to the extent I ordered a custom JD, used Trace Elliot amps & learned to play pretty much all the Level 42 stuff. Up until I heard Level 42 I was purely a Rock/Metal/Prog player. After hearing them I did nothing but slap for years & got pretty good at it, then I just grew sick of the sound of it & decided never to do it again. Or so I thought........... Last October I joined a prog type band & the drummer turned out to be a closet Level 42 fan, which I'm afraid has let the old thumb genie out of the bottle again. I'm nowhere near as good at it as I used to be but I'm enjoying doing it again, though in moderation this time.
7.
Excellent stuff! We prebooked for later this year (December?) so good to know it'll go ahead!
Great news! I'll be there!
8. Yes, that's Trevor Horn playing a fretless (he's a bloody good bass player actually). BTW - the Buggles version is a cover too. The original is by Bruce Woolley & the Camera Club.
9. I bought the issue with Anthony Jackson on the cover last week & it really is terribly dull. That Warwick TM Stevens bass with the sh*t-awful graphic has got to be the tackiest thing I've ever seen. And the price!!! I do like the look of that EBS combo though...............
10. I wouldn't exactly say Entwhistle "died early" - he was getting on a bit!
11. I don't really get GAS for basses. I had one bass that I used for everything for over 20 years & only got rid of that because I couldn't get on with the skinny neck anymore. Now have one fretted & one fretless & that's it. I love looking at different basses but I hardly ever think about buying one. Same with bass amps. I'm happy with what I've got & have no desire whatsoever to spend loads of time trying out stuff for the sake of it. I was terrible with guitars though - I used to buy & sell them all the time.
12. Welcome! I'm another one with relatives over there - mine are in St. Johns, Newfoundland. I really must get over there one day, always wanted to visit.
13. He's probably just some old hippy that people occasionally mistake for Lee Sklar because they once saw him in a Phil Collins video.
14. I've never played a Fernandes guitar or bass that wasn't bloody good quality.
15. North Atlantic Oscillation - "Grappling Hooks"
16.
So, I suppose, you're calling me a musical snob then? Dude, just shut your mouth, sit back and relax - I don't have any problem with them, they do what they want, in the end, it's all discussion, and it all makes sense to me, I have nothing to argue with. Clear? Musical snob, you see..
My post wasn't aimed at anyone in particular, it's something I have observed many times. And I'd thank you not to tell me to shut my mouth just because I have a different opinion to yours. You hardly ever post on the forum, and when you do your posts are full of snobbery, elitism & condescension. I suggest it's you who need to relax a little.
17.
There is no shame in playing pop music to thousands of people every night.
I'm sure that Janek, Matthew & all the other tremendously talented players out there have no problem at all taking this sort of gig. I'm sure they love the variety it gives them. What always cracks me up is it's the chin stroking musical snobs who have a problem with them doing it, NOT the players themselves.
18.
Most Michelin-starred restaurants could halve their prices if there was a much bigger market, but as it is, they are small because so many people would rather go to Pizza Hut and eat crap.
Hmm.I'm not sure about that. A lot of the reason those restaurants charge the prices they do is because they WANT to be exclusive.
19. They don't HAVE to "take a pop gig" to pay the rent - they could go & get a sh*tty, soul destroying day job like most other people have to. If they actively choose a career playing niche music that elevates them to "badass muso" status but nobody (apart from a small percentage of other musicians) actually wants to listen to then they can't really whine about it not paying very well.
