1. A 1/16 size double bass - otherwise known as a Viola.
2.
Ahh I see. Quick setup is a must so I don't lose interest/can get instant results. The ability to put a decent drum track from inbuilt drums would be good, as would a few guitar effects.
The BR600 has got built in amp modelling & effects, and also a pretty good drum machine, which can also be programmed via a PC using software you can download from the Boss website. You can also export tracks as WAV or AIFF files so they can be used on other machines, PCs etc.
3. When I say "Sketchbook" I meant something that can be set up & used quickly if inspiration strikes (it's got built in mics & can be powered by batteries), not that it was of low quality. I should have been a bit clearer there.
4. A weird little secondhand Japanese bass - the name on the headstock was "Raver". It was shorter than short scale, a tiny little thing. Put it through my brothers old Woolworths-bought valve practice amp, which was made for guitar, not bass. Oh yes, and an old Jen fuzz box that plugged into the input of the bass - EVIL sound! Wish I still had that.
5. It depends what sort of quality you're going for - do you want it mainly to use as a "sketchbook" or to produce professional finished work? I've been using a Boss BR600 8 track for a while & have been pleasantly surprised at how good it can sound. They're always on Ebay (that's how I got mine) & you'll easily get one for under £200.
6.
Hi Rhys, Have you any pics of neck and headstock binding? I haven't been able to see the difference, although another member has mentioned that neck binding finishes the bass nicely. Cheers, Lee
I've got a couple of old photo's somwhere - I'll try & get them scanned & put 'em up. (I've been meaning to do it for ages).
7. Personally I'd go for the neck & headstock binding (my old Supernatural model had this, and the planet/UFO inlays). Jaydees without the binding never look finished to me.
8.
The Guitarist has an interesting collection. So far the only one I've recognised is a Shergold 12 string ...
That "Shergold" was a Burns Double 6...................
9. I picked up a bloody lovely Levinson Blade Texas Standard Strat type guitar (lawsuit headstock model too!) in my local Cash Converters for £179.00. It's my favourite six string. They thought there was a problem with it as they couldn't get a sound out of it. They didn't know it had an active circuit & all it needed was a new battery................
10. Never had a problem with drummers (two of the most professional & reliable musicians I know are drummers) but keyboard players tend to be two faced sh*t-stirring treacherous bastards in my experience.....................
11. I play with a pick at least half the time, always have & always will. I use Pickboy Edge Carbon Nylon 1.14mm picks. Very light & very rigid.
12. Status offer bulk string discounts, there's a link on their website.
13. If it was the bass player that got fried I'm surprised anybody even bothered to phone the cops..............
14. There's just a lot of them about......... Seriously, with regard to cleaning the covering, what about some kind of steam carpet/upholstery cleaner?
15. Best way to clean your flock? Sheep dip.
16. My elder brother & sister saw the Santana/EWF tour in Cardiff in 1976 & they both said that EWF completely blew Santana away that evening.
17. Thanks for posting your comments about the Players School. I was all set to go out & take one of their intensive courses this year but family illness meant I had to postpone for the foreseeable future. I'd still love to do it if possible though.
18. Yes. Totally.
19. I'm not a big fan of Precisions but those Steve Harris signature basses are gorgeous. I loved the first edition ones with the burgundy scratchplates too - the one I played was fabulous.
20. Risen again on the third day bump............
21. Muscle memory is just the term given to the way muscles get used to performing repetitive tasks. It's also this that can make it tricky to learn to do something in a different way. It ain't good or bad, it just is.
22.
Dance the night away...........yes I really do have to play it...........honest.
I've seen a few people mention this in various "sh*te song" threads. I'm assuming it's the f***ing dreadful Mavericks thing that is being referred to & not the Van Halen song of the same name?
23. The headstock looks like a bit like an Aria in the few seconds you get to see it, can't be certain though. Frank Blair used to endorse Carvin gear - possibly a Carvin bass? (Eddie Martinez the guitarist is using a rather fabulous seafoam green Hamer SS2 - that much I DO know.........)
24. Advertising this for a friend. Line 6 Spider Valve(Bogner) 1x12 40watt combo with valve power amp. It comes with the FBV shortboard mk.1 Foot controller & cable. Excellent condition. Recently had the electronics upgraded by Line 6 so it's got all the up to date software & patches. Incredibly loud (especially when used with an extension cab) but sounds great at sensible house practice level too. Looking for £375.00. Anyone interested PM me & I'll pass on my friends contact details. Ta!
