1. I'd heard about Martin Taylor's legendary phone call to a "South American" bass player, but never actually heard it before. I'd always assumed it was probably Chucho Merchan.
2. I honestly wouldn't bother with Denmark St. if I were you; it seriously sucks donkeys these days. Also, as others have said, you'd be MUCH better off selling your bass than part exchanging it.
3. It's only a month, why mess about buying & selling a bass? Sometimes a little break from playing is the best thing you can do.
4. That looks like an Intermusic bass head from the late 70's - early 80's to me.

Thanks for posting those - always nice to hear a bit of Percy I've not heard before.
6. Bass parts for 6 original songs that I've been asked to help out with. Recording them next week.
7. What a fantastic colour - I'd love to have my Zon refinished in that.
8. Has to be Geezer Butler/Black Sabbath for me - hearing his playing was the first time I really became aware of the bass as an instrument. It's great to see Hawkwind era Lemmy getting so many mentions - his playing on "Space Ritual" was one of my biggest influences.
9.
Warwick really have got the signature bass bug at the minute haven't they? They've just announced the new Robert Trujillo model Streamer. http://bassplayer.com/article/warwick-robe...rch-2010/109761 Robert Trujillo is,of course, well known for playing a,.......... Fernandes.
He also had a Zon Sonus signature model - with a wooden neck for some strange reason.
10. A black chequerboard bound Ricky 4001 with horseshoe & toaster pickups & the big crushed pearl inlays. It was a dog of a bass but if I'd known how much they'd be changing hands for these days................
11.
I really wished they had shown some Angelwitch. I used to love going to see them at the old Marquee.
There were a lot of bands who should have at least got a mention. What about Girlschool? I have to admit I was disappointed with the programme. It had the usual sneery "Let's make heavy metal bands & fans look like thick w***ers" vibe that you always get in things like this. I don't recall any of the other "Music Britannia" documentaries being that condescending, or using comedy sound effects when people were talking. Still, nothing more than I'd expect from a bunch of middle class arty farty media w***ers.
12.
Managed to miss last nights Flight 666
It was excellent - I really enjoyed it, so much so that I might well buy the DVD. Good old Burke - he lives just up the road from the house where I grew up.
13. You may not be aware of this, but there is a wealth of hardcore pornography on the internet that can serve as an interesting alternative to Basschat.
14.
Probably badly cut, very very thin, and surrounded by filler
And inlaid at an angle so they look straight when the neck is out of alignment.
15.
Pros: it has a good straight maple neck with mother of pearl (I think) block inlays....................
'78 Fender? More likely to be Mother of Toilet Seat than mother of pearl.
16. One of my favourite basslines to play ever! Great song too.
17. I'm fairly sure that any solid colour finish on a Zon would have to be a custom order; they haven't offered them as standard for a while now.
18.
Well the wait is *KILLING ME* but my Zon Hyperbass is due to be completed around 30/5/2010. It was ordered way back when dinosaurs ruled the Earth on 10/9/09 I will post pictures of it during the build process (as I've been promised them) as I get them.... If you're interested that is.... Andy
Nice! Did you order it through Mansons or direct from Joe Zon?
19. I used to get it all the time with my Cornford guitar amp. If I was using a guitar with single coil pickups the reception was better than on my radio.
20. Nice 1980 Musicman Sabre: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/MUSICMAN-SABRE-BASS-...=item1c106f6858 The seller is a nice guy & excellent to deal with. I bought one of my Zons from him last year.
21.
NEVER use Parcelforce, they always break stuff and their insurance is a shameless rip-off, it's not worth the paper it's printed on. If you want your stuff to get there safely, avoid Parcelforce at all costs.
I've shipped dozens of guitars & basses using Parcelforce & have never had any trouble at all.
22.
I wouldn't pay that for any Precision. In my head they're worth £500 if they're really good ones.
+1
23. I've got an old issue of "International Musician" from October 1980 & the dealer profile in that issue is none other than Tim Gentle. This guitar is actually mentioned in the article & it's also in the foreground of the photo that accompanies the article.
24. Blimey, I didn't know Tim Gentle was still in business.
25. If it was me buying it there's no way I'd give it a wax or oil finish - that would definitely f*** up the resale value. Have it refinished in a way that is in keeping with the year of the instrument, be it a natural or colour finish.
