But in the field of vintage guitars / basses, the phrase 'Caveat Emptor' is highly applicable.
+10000 You REALLY need to know your stuff if you plan to buy a vintage instrument, especially if you're looking at Fenders & Gibsons - it's an absolute minefield & as there are large sums of money involved there are some real crooks out there. Add to that the increasing emergence of very good fakes that fool many of the so-called "experts" & it's something I personally would never bother with even if I had the money.
 2. Lemmy - "Stay Clean" from Motorheads "Overkill" album. Chris Squire - "The Fish" from the "Yessongs" triple live album. Rickenbackers, plectrums, distortion & a teenage me blown away & addicted to bass playing for ever. I've long since discovered more "sophisticated" players but the two examples I've given above still do it for me.
 3. I'm not a fan of Motown music but I think it's a fantastic film, essential viewing for anyone with a serious interest in music. I like it so much one of the kids got it on DVD for me for Christmas.
 4.
Also, i would not get an electronic kit, because as other people have said, they are not very quiet, i would instead get a drumkit with mesh heads on them, ive never done that, but ive head its a good silent practice method.
Same problem as an electronic kit - still lots of noise.
 5.
Howdy! I was thinking on and off to myself wether it's time to learn another instrument. The drawback is that I live in a 1st flr maisonnette. I like the look of those electronic drums( rubber?) ,but I'm not sure if that'll work.
Electronic drums still make a lot of noise when you thump them, it's the bass drum pedal that's the main problem. My step daughter has a Yamaha electronic kit & you can still hear her hitting it on the ground floor when she's in the loft.
 6.
To be fair to Chandlers in Kew, they deliberately and specifically discouraged me from using their PLEK machine. Told me they could do a much better job by hand and the sales person conveyed more than a hint of disgust at the thirty thousand quid he confided that they'd spent on it.
I, and others I know, have also been told exactly this by Chandlers. Their PLEK machine has accumulated a nice thick layer of dust through lack of use according to a friend of mine who lives near there. Any decent luthier/repairman can give you a set-up as good as a PLEK machine for a lot less money IMO.
 7. If Joe Zon would build me one (which is highly unlikely) I'd have a bass/12 string guitar twin neck Zon Legacy. Failing that: An 8 string Zon Legacy & a twin neck Shergold (bass/12 string guitar) like Mike Rutherford played with Genesis in the 70s.
 8.
Not always ...
That wouldn't have happened to a Steinberger.............
 9.
I haven't heard it for years, but, "May the cube be with you", by Thomas Dolby. I really really hope it wasn't a synthesiser.
I'm pretty sure it was a "real" bass sampled into Dolby's Fairlight & then sequenced. I'm a big fan of Thomas Dolby.
 10.
Kiss made me want to be in a band, but I think it was Paul Gardiner of Tubeway Army that made me want to be a bassist.
Paul Gardiner was a huge influence on me too.
 11.
If you need any proof, Joe Pass is (I believe) a lefty playing righty. (Mind you, it's rumoured he's an absolute %%$*&&* to work with!). G.
Joe Pass hasn't been a "%%$*&&* to work with" since 1994, when he died................. There are quite a few examples of left handed people who play right handed - Mark Knopfler is one that springs immediately to mind.
 12. I avoid this by steadfastly refusing to play 99% of musical genres.
 13.
might also consider any old school trades.....
I'll give you my old school uniform for it, and I'll throw in my monitors badge too................. SOMEBODY BUY THIS BASS! ZONS ARE f***ing AWESOME!!
 14. As far as I know he used a couple of SVTs.
 15.
That you Watson?
Priceless!
 16. I played one of these at the Frankfurt trade fair in about 1984. I owned a Rickenbacker 4001 at the time & I honestly thought the Fernandes was better. Fernandes made a load of copies of well known basses & guitars & they were all superb. They were making a Jaco Pastorious Jazz bass replica years before Fender got round to doing it.
 17. If it's one of the early to mid 80s Fernandes models it's probably better quality than a real Rickenbacker.
 18. Be patient & leave it the f*** alone until it's better or you'll end up with all manner of hand trouble for the rest of your life. It's only a couple of weeks.
 19.
I'd give both my balls for a Brian Setzer 6120.
I used to have a metallic purple Brian Setzer Hotrod 6120 - it was f***ing brilliant!
 20. If I was twenty years younger I'd be well up for it! Good luck with finding someone.
 21. "One of the greatest bass guitars ever built"? I don't think so. The magnesium alloy they built them from was very soft, and the string retainers at the headstock apparently had the unfortunate habit of detaching under string tension.
 22. I'm a huge fan of Gretsch guitars (I've owned a 6120 & a Duojet) but the basses are pretty sh*te IMO.
 23.
To write just one piece of music I can be proud of. Just one.
That would probably be mine too, though I can't see it ever happening. Everything I've ever written has been utter sh*t.
 24. For one horrible moment I thought it was going to be another clip of that Japanese bass playing transvestite again......... Nice playing!
