1.
That's no use, no use at all. Firstly, he claims it was his father's when it should obviously have been his uncle's. Secondly, there's no mention of an attic, cellar or woodshed anywhere. Meanwhile, I don't know much about Levinson Blades. What's special about them?
They're just excellent quality instruments with very well thought out electronics. Excellent quality control and consistency too. They have been referred to in the past as "The European Sadowsky". I part exchanged my custom built Jaydee for one of these B4 basses at the bass centre in Wapping 20 years ago & never regretted it for a second. I'd still be playing it now if I hadn't started to find jazz profile necks too small. I've still got an old Levinson Blade Texas Standard Strat type guitar & that's bloody lovely as well; better than any Fender I've ever played.
2. I shall be at the Cardiff gig.
3. Why not just buy a multimeter? You can use them for 1000s of other things as well as testing batteries & a good basic one can be bought for less than a tenner.
4.
you're not the last - I've still not found a Warwick I liked
Same here. I just can't get past the (to me) extreme ugliness of their body shapes. The only one they make I think has a nice shape is the Streamer, and they nicked that off Spector.
5. Levinson Blade B4 super Jazz with the lawsuit headstock. Just like the one I used to have (only mine was purple). £400 is an absolute steal for one of these. If you're looking for a Jazz style bass for around the £400 mark you won't get better than this IMO. Awesome quality - ash body, rock maple neck & ebony fingerboard. 6. It looks like it was designed by Picasso. I can sort of see where he's coming from with the top six bass strings - it's like the old harp guitars. The bottom set of strings is anyone's guess.....
7. Awesome! I'll be at the Cardiff gig on the 20th.
8. That's a lovely looking bass Hadrien is playing.
9.
Ah, the Skjold Offset Whaleback Although each to their own etc... TBH I could probably come around to the idea if it plays really nicely, which I bet they do! ped
YE GODS!!! That monstrosity is the John Merrick of bass guitars.
10. I'd just like to say that I've had instruments shipped by USPS & without exception they've been with me within 7 days. My Hamer 12 string bass arrived from the US in 2 days!
11. Allowing a bloody "Serious Relationship" & a "Steady Job" to come between me & some great times & great gigs all over Europe with my old band. Needless to say both relationship & job are long gone. I've got more regrets than anything else......
12. That bass is seriously awesome!
13. So, have you got it yet?
14. The thumb on my left hand does this occasionally. It's never happened when I've been playing though & it only lasts for a minute or two so I've never bothered seeking medical advice about it.
15. It looks like the builder started to carve the body shape then just lost interest & gave up.
16.
Hi, I'm also curious what year this one is. It seems to have the old fingerboard?
It looks like it has the newer Phenowood fingerboard to me (I've got two Zons, one with Phenowood board & an older one where the fingerboard is the same as the rest of the neck).
17.

That's a part of their long career The Stylistics would rather forget.....
18. I've always wanted one of those - they're f***ing fantastic basses! I may have to pay you a visit to have a look if you get it....... Have a look here for dating/serial number information: http://www.ovationguitars.com/?fa=codethree One thing you might not be aware of with these basses - there's a strange proximity effect thing that happens with one of the pickups (can't remember if it's neck or bridge) where if you bend a string the note just disappears. I think this is common to all Magnums but I'm not sure - maybe somebody could comment on this if they know for sure.
19. I've never owned one but they are bloody good basses.
20. How about "Waltzing's for dreamers" by Richard Thompson? (It's on his "Amnesia" album & it's a bloody fantastic song)
21. Absolutely superb - totally hypnotic.
22. Did anybody on the forum buy the 5 string Zon Legacy with neck LEDs that finished on Ebay yesterday evening?
23. I wouldn't expect a standard set up to include anything to do with the electrics; it'd just be neck relief, bridge adjustment & a new set of strings. The crackling pot is probably being caused by the track in the pot becoming carbonised - this happens when pots are left untouched for any length of time. You could probably sort it out yourself with a can of electrical contact cleaner.
24. I use a Jacques "Meistersinger" analogue chorus pedal which is pretty damn superb. Works great for bass & guitar & has a really useful blend control, as well as the best designed battery holder I've ever used on a pedal - just open the little door & drop the battery in. Love it!
25. Maple & ash would be pretty toppy, especially with a bolt-on neck. You'd be better off going with mahogany for the sound you want IMO.
