I was a bit worried when Mark said my Aguilar gear was the 'Ford' of the bass amplification world.......
It's completely unprofessional to slag off somebodies gear like that if you work in a music shop - if he'd done that to me I'd have taken my money elsewhere. I notice that this shop doesn't stock Aguilar - I always question the validity of anything said about a piece of gear by someone that works in a music shop if they don't happen to stock that particular make. I know of music shops that make a point of rubbishing certain brands just because they've refused to let the shop stock their equipment (you have to wonder why they wanted to stock that stuff in the first place if they think it's crap). I've seen it happen so many times before - a shop will slag off a make of bass, amp or whatever & then 6 or 12 months later they're now stocking that same piece of gear & saying how great it is.

Going by the picture I'd say the bridge isn't original as it's a Badass 2. Could be wrong though.

I may have an addition to this thread very soon - I'll update asap..........

F***ing hell that's a beauty!!

The band I was in for years was totally dominated by keyboards, and a lot of low parts were done with arpeggiators or sequences. I really enjoyed this as I had to think differently about what I played, or even whether I played at all on some songs. I love synths & when I record song demos at home I'll use a synth for the bass part 9 out of 10 times. I find it makes me think about the bass part differently & I tend to come up with more interesting (to me) ideas than I would on a bass guitar.
nobody said they did i think you're just developing a bit of an inferiority complex here. To be honest i hear a lot about this idea that playing a bass with more than 4 strings somehow makes you less of a player, it goes back to this idea that the only reason people develop improvements to instruments is because they can't play them properly, which is bulls***. You ought to go find out what playing a 5 string bass actually means before posting crap like this.
I think I may have just had an insight into why nobody wants you in their band.......
I know,he only borrowed it for a Video shoot though
Did the Thin Lizzy guys borrow the Riches from Amrik & Pammi when they were importing them in the late 70s?

I'm pretty sure that Badass bridges were the usual ones used on the older Rich basses. Pictures please - I would REALLY like to see that Mockingbird.
Yeah, look around the second hand market, sometimes, you get lucky, especially if the seller states shipping to his country, and you politely ask if he'll ship to your's
Lovely! I used to have a wonderful snakeskin finish ST3 - it's one of the few guitars I really regret selling.
What are your opinions of this.......?
Is that one of the newer, cheaper models or one of the original "bodied" Steinbergers that had a body designed by Roger Giffen?
But where your finger goes for correct intonation will vary depending on where on the neck you are. For example, it will be different at the first fretline than the thirteenth fretline.
Exactly. It doesn't matter whether you set the intonation behind, on or in front of the line, as you move up the neck the point of correct intonation will move.
RhysP,I'd like to talk to your friend with the BCR's
I think you already know him from the BC Rich Forum. He's mentioned your name to me.

The older (1970s - mid 80s) Riches were superb hand built instruments that were used by many famous musicians to play all manner of styles of music. In the mid to late 80s certain manufacturers, BC Rich being one of the main ones, aligned themselves with the "Hair metal" bands and have never really recovered their reputation, being thought of solely as guitars & basses for metal bands. As a result rather than try & win back the general musician they began to bring out newer models & finishes that would appeal solely to the metal player. This also coincided with BC Rich manufacturing a lot of cheaper, lower quality guitars so there are a lot of people out there who never knew that BC Rich used to make some of the very best instruments that money could buy. I used to work in a shop that sold the older instruments, and also have a friend that collects 70s & 80s Riches & believe me they are awesome.

With regard to carbon Fibre Steinbergers being "fragile" - I once used one as a cricket bat & it didn't even go out of tune. The mate I borrowed it off went apeshit when he caught us...... As someone else has said, you may chip one, but you'll never break one.

Nobody's mentioned them yet so I have to add Prefab Sprout to the list (not that they looked crap). I absolutely LOVE them - Paddy McAloon is one of the greatest songwriters ever IMO, and Martin McAloons bass parts are always great. "Swoon" & "Steve McQueen" are two of my favourite albums of all time.

how do you clean the fretboard with the strings on?
"the dirt keeps the funk"
That's the dirtiest maple fingerboard I've ever seen. -
I've long thought that Wouldn't It Be Good contains the finest guitar solo never played Listen through it in your head and you'll hear the lead break played on guitar. Listen to it for real and it's keyboards. Surprises me every time! A
It's actually played in unison on guitar & saxophone.

Bass Lines that everyone plays different
RhysP replied to ironside1966's topic in General Discussion
I've been playing for 26 years, mostly professionally and like you I'm still scratching the surface.
Totally. I've been playing for 30 years & I feel like I know less now than I did when I started. -
Got any pictures of it? If it's one of the late 70s ones they're very good Japanese made instruments. Princes' main guitar (his telecaster with the tort scratchplate) is actually a Hohner from this range.

I've never tried a wireless unit for bass that hasn't compressed the f*** out of the sound. The other thing to bear in mind if buying a wireless unit of any sort is that with the government selling off the wireless channels the frequency ranges used by these units are going to get very crowded - the chance of interference with vastly increase & you may even end up having to buy licences for them in the not too distant future.

Just out of interest, I was wondering if anybody on here bought a secondhand JD Supernatural from the Bass Centre in Wapping - I part exchanged my one in May 1989 and I wondered if it ended up being owned by anybody on here. It has a cherry finish, bound neck & headstock, ebony fingerboard, UFO/Planet inlays. I can't remember the serial number but I think it was a palindrome (reads the same backwards as forwards).
I owned a Jaydee some 20 years ago, the necks were very "unstable" then.
Same here. I had a lovely Supernatural (before it became the Mark King model) with the planet & UFO inlays, bound neck & headstock & inlaid JD logo. I ended up getting rid of it as the neck was a bloody nightmare - I swear I spent more time adjusting the trussrod than I did playing the bloody thing. To be honest I found it to be a bit of a one trick pony too; it was great for slapping but sounded terrible for anything else.

This isn't one that was posted on the forum. I saw it listed on a Japanese music shop website whilst trawling the internet for Zon porn. This Zon Legacy was built for the winter NAMM show this year and is made from mango wood, which I think looks absolutely gorgeous.

Personally I think that bass is ugly & cheap looking - the sort of thing you'd get on Ebay for £349. I just don't like those thin, elongated horns & the way the pickups are crammed together. Looks like it was painted with Hammerite too. I've got nothing against more bass modern designs, I don't think this one is a very good example of one.
