1. They'll all need hip replacements by the time they're 40 if they carry on like that..... Is it meant to be serious?
 2.
They may have crept up a bit in price recently, but that has to be as a result of their reputation.
It's got more to do with the exchange rates than anything else, though they are great instruments.
 3.
Nope, the aesthetics are lost on me, that looks U.G.L.Y. Sorry!
It looks like a bottle opener you'd buy at a village fete craft stall.
 4.
Totally disagree with this - if it is a custom instrument then yes, it should be built to be exactly what you want (providing your luthier knows what you want). But a boutique bass I see as being more like a high end car. You get one because it does what it does, not so you can change it to do something you think it ought to be able to do.
Absolutely.
 5. Why do you think that paying someone who knows what they're doing to set your bass up would "potentially hurt the value of this bass"?
 6. Very nice, and look at the price so far! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/MANSON-BASS-MADE-IN-...id=p3286.c0.m14
 7. Picked up this months issue today. There's a picture of my mate (and awesomely talented drummer) Steve Roberts on page 16, which was a nice surprise.
 8.
I really like Drama by yes, thought he and Geoff Downs did a cracking job.
It's one of my favourite Yes albums. Absolutely brilliant & contains some of Squires best bass work ever.
 9.
methylated spirits - the purple nice smelling foul tasting stuff....
I find a dash of lemonade takes the edge off it quite nicely.....
 10.
5 Minutes Alone That's what i thought of too.

5 minutes alone
That's the one, thanks guys. (I was listening to "Far beyond driven" earlier today too - my brain is rubbish).
 11. He's a bloody good bass player.
 12. There's an old Pantera video showing something very similar on the guitar & bass (can't remember which song it's for though).
 13. I've used straplocks ever since my brand new custom built Jaydee came off the strap and smashed headstock first into the floor - I'd just picked it up from the shop & had been playing it for about 20 minutes when it happened. Luckily the bass was undamaged, which was more than could be said for my underpants..... I use the Dunlop & the Schaller ones - I prefer the Schaller models as they're not as big & clunky as the Dunlop ones. Lots of guitars & basses come with the Dunlop compatible buttons as standard - Hamer & Musicman are the two that spring immediately to mind. For the small amount they cost using a straplock system of some type is a no brainer IMO.
 14.
That'll be the Roll the Bones tour in '92, then
Yes, it probably was. It was all such a long time ago........
 15.
Why not follow the tried-and-tested major label route? Find someone who looks the part and is easy to manipulate. Maybe the son of a label executive's friend, for example. Train them up to a basic standard. Done.
Oooh! You cynic!
 16. He gets quite a nice sound out of that ironing board.......
 17. I saw Primus supporting Rush on the "Hold your fire" tour at the Birmingham NEC - that was a great night for bass players.
 18. I'd own up to the damage & hope she gave me a damn good spanking.....
 19.
Geddy Lee is at #1 though, so not alls wrong in the world.
I'm really astonished to see Geddy mentioned at all - I wouldn't have thought your average NME reader would have a clue who he is.
 20.
Apparently some guy called Roger Walters plays bass for Pink Floyd.
Not to mention Thin Lizzy's legendary Phil Lycott....... Considering the NME is basically a kiddies comic & fashion magazine I'm really surprised at some of the names on that list.
 21.
In short, if I can't do the gig then I think they should have said 'no' just like we do when either of them can't make a gig.
This is what would make the situation unacceptable for me. They have already set a precedent for the situation; if the band has cancelled gigs before when other members couldn't make the date then why aren't they doing it this time? I'd be pissed off to the point of quitting (but that's just me; I never really got to grips with "band mentality").
 22.
I used to be a bit of a naysayer, not anymore. I really wish I'd have put the work in a LONG time ago.
Same here. No excuses, I've just always been very lazy and more than a little intimidated by music theory. I'm very fired up about learning some theory at the moment, and this is mainly down to the excellent series of lessons that rslaing has been posting the last few weeks.
 23.
.....saw a row of tits and on the end was Janek.
24.
And charging in from the leftfield... I Suggest "Babooshka" by Kate Bush. John Giblin is ripping it up!
+1 "Babooshka" is probably my favourite bass part of all time. Giblin is a fantastic player. His playing on John Martyns "Grace & danger" album is superb as well. Um, nobodies mentioned Jaco yet...... If for some reason you haven't heard Jaco's playing on Joni Mitchells "Hejira" & "Mingus" albums make sure you do. Absolutely wonderful. Personally I think this was Jaco at his very best.
 25. It's definately a Washburn. I think it's a Hawk or a Falcon model.
