1.
Hi Danny Is the Hiscox the 'guitar shaped' case? Is there a compartmant for leads, plugs, etc?
It's a bit guitar shaped (not fully shaped but not rectangular either). There is a good sized compartment under the neck. Great cases - light & very strong. I'm going to get one for my Levinson B4.
2. I'm not able to play back your sound file. I keep getting an error message that says "The input media format is invalid". What format is the file?
3. My Zon Legacy Fretless with Bartolinis has a ridiculous amount of top end, to the extent I keep the treble rolled off as much as possible (and I like a toppy sound) - maybe it's your preamp rather than the pickups that's the culprit? You'll probably get more attack from a fretted bass - I play heavyish stuff on my fretless but it definately has less initial attack to the notes than my fretted bass. I also nearly always play heavier styles of music with a pick so that helps crisp the notes up a bit too IMO
4. I keep coming back to this thread, and also looking at Rick 4001/3s on Ebay. Despite my inability to get on with the others I've owned I'm starting to think I want to give it another go. They just look SO good........
5.
There are of course differences between a $200 mexican P-Bass, and a $10,000 Fodera. It's like the stradivarius of bass guitars, made by the single greatest luthier that's ever lived. That's a pretty bold statement I know, but it really is the reality of the situation. The kind of wood, the attention to detail, and the hundreds of meticulous man hours that go into making their instruments really do make them worth the money and the wait.
This is one persons purely subjective opinion being stated as "really being the reality of the situation" I'd call that pretty arrogant, maybe others wouldn't. I guess "arrogance" is subjective too, maybe it's "self confidence" or something.
What are your views on the negative responses, on here, to this perceived arrogance?
I honestly don't think any of the responses were extreme, some people disagreed with some things he said and called him on them, as they would with anyone posting. In the short time I've been posting here I've seen far worse exchanges.
6.
IMHO it's not the minority ruining it for the majority. It's one pro bassist who isn't suited to internet forums!
I'm sure this guy is a superb bassist and there is a lot he could contribute to the forum for those players into the more studious aspects of bass playing. Having said that, in the posts of his I've read he nearly always comes across as a humourless, stroppy prima donna who throws his toys out of the pram if he thinks he's not being shown the respect and reverance he so obviously feels he deserves. That sort of attitude is always going to draw the flak on a discussion forum such as this, regardless of who the poster is. I really don't think he was being got at because he's been on the cover of a magazine, plays a Fodera or anything else connected to his bass playing. He was being got at because he was acting arrogantly.
7. This went for £510.00 this afternoon - anyone on here get it?
8.
Last night I was using my Fender Jazz Geddy........
So you bought one then? To quote Spongebob (the real one!) - "Whaddya think"?
9.
They all looked bored and as if they'd been told off by their mums.
I've always thought they all look totally stoned off their gourds in that clip, especially Andy Fraser. His eyes are quite astonishing.
10. Pick boy Edge 1.14 & 0.60 Carbon graphite picks. Thin, light and very rigid.
11. Herbie Flowers has had a set of these on his old Fender Jazz for about 30 years. I put a set on an old Hondo bass I had years ago & I quite liked them (I think they may have been Picato nylon tap wounds) - I'm actually thinking of getting a set for my bass in the next couple of weeks.
12. What about that blue/green Roscoe? That was referred to as "One of the resident Basschat bikes" when I posted a link to it the other month.
13. Martin Mendez is a great player & Opeth are a superb band. According to the Opeth website he uses Fender TB- 1200 amps & Fender 8x10 cabs. His basses are mainly Fender Marcus Miller Signature Jazz basses.
14. Maybe it's because they have to spend their spare money on picks so can't afford a custom build. I've never really thought about this before, but I when I used to play mainly fingerstyle & all that stupid slappity thumb stuff I used a custom built bass, but when I returned to playing mainly with a pick I stopped using the custom build & went back to using an "off the shelf" jazz type bass. I think it's just that fingerstyle slappity players tend to be a bunch of egomaniac narcissistic ponces so they go for the flashy custom built basses.....
15. Great - ta for the info! (I'd love to get myself one of those twin necks but as I'm waiting to have spinal surgery I don't think they'd be very good for my back!)
16. There also appears to be a volume knob missing that he hasn't mentioned. Great price though.
17. I went round to get this bass from the guy - next thing I know I've woken up in a hotel room in Marseilles with a blinding headache, a sore arse and no recollection of the last 72 hours whatsoever. Still, it's a nice bass though......
18. I've been drooling over that Zon Legacy for weeks now - bloody lovely.
19. That's a lovely looking bass. Troy from Mastodon uses a Godlyke very similar to that (his is fretted though).
20. You might want to check your spelling in your first post, as you've just admitted to "touching an old squire", which has started me giggling uncontrollably. Just to echo what everyone else has said, they are all very narrow at the nut (which is why I can't get on with Jazz basses any more) but the shape (or profile) of the neck varies from model to model. You'd probably really need to play the specific model you're after to make sure you're comfortable with it. Having said that, I think the neck on the Geddy bass is lovely, even though I don't like Jazz necks.
21. Lovely!! Are they both Modulators?
22. Welcome! Please post some pictures of your Shergold twin necks when you get a chance!
23. There's an old Gordon Smith Gypsy bass on Ebay at the moment: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Ultra-rare-Gordon-Sm...3%3A11|294%3A50 I remember these from advertisements in "International Musician" because of the rotating pickups - I seem to remember John Wetton being in the ads so he may have been an endorser at one point. Never played a Gordon Smith Bass but their guitars are very good; excellent build quality and play superbly well.
24. That looks absolutely bloody lovely. Bet it sounds pretty damn good too.
