1. The other members wanting the band to be a big socialising/friends thing when all I want to do is play some music & then go home.
2.
Have you ever considered that you've got Aspergers ? It's something that I have, and can cause anxiety problems, which it sounds like you have.
I was thinking exactly the same thing. A lot of what the OP wrote mirrored pretty much exactly my own experiences with playing in bands (and life in general) - loved the playing, never had any stage fright but all the other stuff terrified me. The bit between setting the gear up until it was time to play was hell on earth for me, and this got worse & worse as I got older & started to drink less (the drink was helping me cope to an extent but I just couldn't carry on like that). Got to the point where I just had to face the fact that I wasn't cut out for gigging & socialising in general, but I couldn't work out why as it was something I should have loved doing. Lots of other problems with extreme anxiety, depression & just not being able to cope in lots of 'normal' situations led to me losing my job & finally to being diagnosed (twice, by two different clinical psychologists) with Aspergers Syndrome earlier this year at the age of 51. Finding out the reason for why I behave like I do has been a massively positive experience for me - I know it's a cliche but I really do feel like my life started again when I was diagnosed.
3. For that kind of money I'd at least expect a one piece body on a natural finish instrument.
4. Chinagraph pencil. Mark the gain & EQ settings for your various basses on the amp so you can go to them quickly & easily. Always worked perfectly for me, though it might not appeal to people who like to have an excuse to buy another bit of kit for no reason.
5. Might help if you post a link to it or something.
6.
No, that was Keith.
I always get that wrong.
7. I thought it was the name of the dog that Russia sent into space.
8. Why not have a bash at making your own? http://www.craftycomputerpaper.co.uk/.-Inkjet-Water-Slide-Decal-Paper_151.htm
9. £3.30 is pretty good to ship something of that weight too...
10. I don't normally like sunburst finishes but that one is really nice.
11.
Seeing this band on stage is a different experience to being in the rehearsal room. I'm fine with not getting charts; part of me was excited by being challenged to work differently. I suppose the bit I'm struggling to resolve is the drummer's attitude. Then maybe the drummer's attitude is a more explicit version of everyone's attitude? I'm just guessing.
But surely all of the problems you mention about the drummer must have been evident when you saw them on stage? Did you not notice that he couldn't keep time or not remember the song structures?
12. I used to have one, though it wasn't exactly the same as your one. Flat Eric on here has at least one of them (including my old one). Superb basses but they don't sell for much unfortunately.
13.
Marshall VBA400 in the sale section. Worth a look I think.
Another vote for this, these are great amps: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/280897-marshall-vba-slight-price-drop-now-l535/
14.
Valve pre and solid state power amp? Cheaper/lighter. Pre is mostly responsible for the tone.
Oh no it's not. The valve power stage is what makes all the difference.
15. They made headless guitars too when they were still using the "Strata" name.
16.
Lots of interesting comments, and just a little bit of negativity towards guitarists. Just to recap, a guitarist turns up at an open mic night with the words and chords he/she needs, and an indication of where the capo goes to get the song in the right vocal range. A bass player introduces himself and asks if he can join in. There is no way that the guitarist's notes for his/her benefit are wrong just because they do not help the bass player.
Absolutely this. Bass players can be a right pain in the arse at acoustic singer/songwriter type open mic nights where more often than not the material being performed was never meant to have bass on it in the first place.
17. Never had any problems with posting ads from my Mac.
18.
Do you never listen to music stations on the radio? She's very difficult to avoid.

You been living under a rock, bro?
Never listen to the radio & never watch music programmes on the TV. There are loads of bands & artists people mention on here that I've never heard anything by. The list of incredibly popular films I've never seen is equally astounding.
19. From what you've said in your first post you've seen this band before & liked the songs - surely if they were that bad it would have been evident then?
20. What a bargain! Almost makes me want to start gigging again...
21.
OK, thanks y'all. I was guessing it was a bridge re-profile thing. The guitar was brand new and cannot have had more than 10 hours playing time as people played it in the shop. It was just very odd for such an expensive instrument to have such a glaring issue.
Was it a Martin by any chance?
22. These are great bits of kit, I've got one. Proper analogue mono synth for not much money!
