1.
Bruno Mars. Not my usual taste but a great bassline. See above for why!
Never heard of him.
  2. Never heard of it. Who's it by?
  3. I've seen this before & it's superb - better than any Yes version I've ever heard.
  4.
maybe you need to look at finding something new to learn. Transcribe a difficult line, or a solo, or learn a new technique which will make your bass sound different.
Nah, I always hated learning stuff even when I was interested in playing. I played for 37 years & never transcribed anything, if something was too difficult I just didn't bother with it. I've pretty much got rid of all my gear now anyway.
  5.
If on the other hand I pick up the same bass... after eating a massive dinner... that inevitably leads to GAS.
I always find eating a massive dinner leads to GAS... i agree with boredom being a trigger for GAS. I haven't picked up a guitar or bass for more than a minute or two since last September. I have no desire whatsoever to do anything musical but this has left a massive & very boring hole in my life. Despite not wanting to play I am still spending hours every day looking at Ebay & the for sale ads on here. No sense to it whatsoever.
  6.
There is no such thing as bad music, just opinion.
You've never heard anything I've written, it's f***ing terrible.
  7. Best bass amp I ever owned was one of these, superb little combo.
  8.
If he didn't rate his band then why not just fire them? My admiration for Rich just went down.
Apparently he used to fire his bands all the time, then re-hire them again. There's an interesting chapter about working with Buddy Rich in Tony Levin's excellent book "Beyond The Bass Clef".
  9. This is something you really need to get expert advice on, rather than opinions from people on a bass forum. Even if something has worked for somebody with the same condition it doesn't mean that it will work for you.
  10.
I hate to say it but you're asking way too much money. These commonly sell for a heck of a lot less than this. This is the sort of price you'd expect to pay at a vintage bass shop after being professionally serviced and set up. Not from a private sale.
It's not really done to say stuff like this on peoples sales threads. If you feel you have to make comments like this best do it by PM.
  11.
Take a break, don`t sell your gear, and unless you like watching live bands don`t even go and see any. Let your love of music come back to you naturally. It will. How long is different for all of us. I did similar in the early 90s, took about 5 years out. Didn`t play, didn`t buy any music, didn`t watch any bands, had nothing to do with it. Then on an impulse bought a guitar and have been in bands ever since.
This is pretty much exactly what I'm doing now, apart from the fact that I have sold my gear. Stopped going to see bands last September, and even though I used to love going to gigs I'm not missing it at all. Hardly if ever listen to music these days either, and when I do I don't really get anything from it. Not really expecting the music spark to reignite if I'm honest but never say never.
  12. Couldn't be any worse than the original Hofner ones.
  13.
I can think of a number of bands which split thus having two, three sometimes even four Bands using the same name. Not sure it's the public that benefit from this.
Then it's up to the public to vote with their feet & wallets. If they're willing to keep paying to see these bands then you can't blame the bands for cashing in.
  14. Is she used to playing a real piano? If so neither of them will give her the feel she's used to. The NP12 is a good little keyboard for the money though, and it's very light too so easy to carry if that's important. It's also got built-in speakers so she wouldn't have to lug an amp to singing lessons. I was looking at one the other week, but in the end I've decided I'll probably go for a second hand older model Kurzweil (something like a PC88) which can be had for the same money if you're lucky & will be miles better sound & playability wise. It will weigh a ton & need an amp though...
  15. Jimmy Haslip not playing with them anymore?
  16. Gretsch G6118T-FSR-GLD Anniversary guitar for sale. WITHDRAWN FROM SALE Immaculate condition, complete with Gretsch hardshell case, extra bridge (Space Control), truss rod key, Gretsch vintage style leather strap, certificate & all other usual Gretsch case candy as shown in the photos. The guitar was made in 2014 as part of a limited run of 12 gold finished Anniversary models for Cream City, a music store in the USA. This guitar is number 3 of 12. Absolutely stunning guitar, much nicer than the Brian Setzer Hotrod I used to own. I'm just not playing it though & it's a bit of an extravagance to just keep under the bed. As it's a hollow body guitar I would prefer not to post it as risk of damage is too great. I will happily deliver it by train within reasonable distance for the price of the train fare though. I will also be going to London in the next month & probably Glasgow & Edinburgh in August too if that's any use to anyone. Asking £1,400 ono. Payment will need to be by cash on collection, or by cheque or bank transfer as I don't have a Paypal account. Not looking for any trades. 17.
I've only seen that type of response with bands that are famous. Blue
Really? When my old band got back together for a one off reunion gig in 2005 we had a load of old fans there who were down the front, jumping around like lunatics & singing all the words to our old songs with us.
  18.
It would be quite a.... Journey
I see what you did there...
  19. Such a shame this isn't closer to me. I'd actually think about coming out of retirement for this, they are great songs to play. Good luck finding someone.
  20.
The main thing that devalues the historic brands like Fender, Gibson and Rickenbacker is their own inability to apply meaningful consistent quality control to their products IMHO.
Absolutely.

    B.C.Rich Porn

Lorne's BC Rich Porn thread hasn't been updated for a while, so... Having recently sold my last bass & a few other musical items I had a bit of spare cash knocking about when a friend of mine that collects vintage BC Rich guitars put me onto this, a 1979/80 Mockingbird Standard. It's in superb condition, with none of the knocks & chips on the "pointy bits" that are pretty much par for the course with old Rich's. Nice subtle bit of birds eye in the maple wings too. Frets were in a pretty bad way, so I took it in for a fret dress & it's as good as new. I have to admit I bought it largely for sentimental/nostalgic reasons as I used to drool over these when I first started playing. I also worked in a music shop in the early 80s that stocked them, so I've played a lot of old Rich guitars & basses but, apart from an STIII guitar in the late 80s, I've never owned one. It's just as good as I remembered, build quality & playability are up there with the very best basses I've owned. I haven't enjoyed owning a bass as much as this one for a LONG time. 23. WD40. You could also try heating it as the expansion of the metal might help loosen it.
