2. I'd say the pickups are not stock too. As far as I can remember the early NJ models came with Dimarzios. With the blade pole pieces the pickups in your bass look like Bill Lawrence pickups.

Nice.
4.
It's a toe curling moment for me, whether I'm a part of the audience or as a band member. I just hate it.
Yep, total cliched cheese fest.
5.
I am in Bangor, North Wales. If it was happening around here I would know about it! I was just wondering about pointers to places in London or Brum where it is happening, for future reference for me or for anyone else reading the thread really.
There's probably not much like that happening at your local chapel.
6. They are really great basses. A lot of the Japanese basses used Gotoh tuners with their own logos on them so it might be worth seeing if there's a set of suitable Gotohs available.
7.
Before we get too down on ourselves though we should bear in my there are plenty of pro's who've been around for a while who don't work a crowd that well either. I was amazed at the utter lack of crowd interaction that Ali Campbell had with the audience at a UB40 gig and Pink Floyd's 'remoteness' at some times in their history is quite legendary.
It's unfair say that Pink Floyd didn't work a crowd well - you didn't go to see Floyd for the witty banter & faux bonhomie, you went for the music & the lightshow. Can't say I've ever talked to anyone who saw Floyd that thought the evening was spoiled by the lack of audience interaction.
8. Make that a black mask, stripey top & weightlifting belt....
9. The Fender Mustang amps are very good indeed. If you can afford to pay a bit more for the Mustang iii it's worth it as it has a much better speaker than the other models.
10.
A bit of this, but also, the rest of the band need need to respond to this. I saw Van Morrison twice in a period of a couple of months, so same band and same set. First time was stunning, despite a lacklustre audience, Van was on fire and the band kicked off behind him. The second time, as Paul says, it was as if someone was playing a CD on stage.
That's probably got more to do with Van being such a miserable old bastard that half the time gives the impression he'd rather be anywhere else than on stage than anything else.
11. Nothing wrong with scripting it. Even the best frontmen, who appear to be saying everything off the cuff, usually have a good idea of what they are going to say. Seeing a famous band a couple of nights on the same tour in different cities will prove this. There's nothing worse & more amateur-sounding than some idiot winging it between songs because they are under the mistaken impression that they have the gift of the gab.
12.
The pic...
Looking at that picture there has definitely been a pan pot substituted for the pickup selector switch. This is what the layout on a Mock bass with the full US circuitry should look like: Lovely bass by the way!
13. There is a Basschat member called Lorne who would be able to help you with this, but I haven't seen him on here for ages. Maybe you could try sending him a PM?
14. Any chance of a full length photo of the bass so I can see the headstock etc? Is it a neck-through or a bolt-on?
15. I don't think Moser is a lot of use with the NJs as they weren't build in the USA. BC Rich Junkies are OK, but BC Rich world is better IMO, less cliquey. I have a friend in London who collects vintage Rich's who is very knowledgable - I can ask him about it if you like. If you google 1983 BC Rich NJ series you'll see that all the guitars just have volume & tone controls & a toggle switch, though I do believe they were made with enough room in the control cavity to allow the owner to upgrade to full USA circuitry if they wanted to.
16.
True. I guess it's just made me think about it because I was really surprised by some of the reactions.
Peoples reactions to things on here used to surprise me too. You get used to it.
17.
I've looked on the wal site and I can see the similarity with the mk3. Still only "similar" in my eyes.
Does it really matter if it is similar? Wal borrowed heavily from Hayman/Shergold for the Mk1 body shape. They're all at it.
18.
Why should you feel the need to justify a purchase ?
This. If you're happy with it that's all that matters.
19.
As to the whole wal thing... please explain to me how this: Looks like this: Things I see that are similar... The headstock... Four knobs.... er.... Seriously, Wal horns are nearly like an SG. Enfield horns are probably the furthest away horns I've seen this side of a singlecut.
To be fair the pictures you've posted are of a Mk1 Wal. the people that are saying the Enfield looks like a Wal are probably talking about the Mk2 & Mk3 body shapes, which, it has to be said, the Enfield is very similar to. You've said yourself the headstock is very similar.
20. A very small amount, and use only a couple of times a year. Fast fret never used to be a fingerboard preparation, it was something you wiped onto the strings when they were on the bass to clean them & make them sqeak less - have they changed it?
21. BC Rich never used pan pots on their guitars & basses, pickup selector would have been a toggle switch on an old model like this. I didn't think any of the old NJ series came with the full USA tone circuit.
22. I haven't, no - but there's bound to be stuff on here or elsewhere that somebody else will bring to your attention soon enough. It might be worth seeing if there's a forum member local to you that could take you through the process & show you what to do.
23. The chips wouldn't devalue the bass anywhere near the same amount that stripping it would. Have a look on Ebay & check out the condition of the Stingrays on there & what they are going for.
24. It's always best to do anything like that when you change strings, especially adjusting the intonation at the bridge.
