1. Seven posts and nobody has yet referred to it as a Dingray, so allow me.
 2. I know where you're coming from - I've been playing for 36 years and, apart from one really memorable gig many years ago I can't help feeling like it's all been a massive waste of time & money.
 3.
Did you have a play at all? I'm really tempted to go for the 420 model as that seems a good balance between price / function. I'd happily shift on my Squier Classic Vibe to fund a purchase!
No, I didn't play any of them unfortunately as I wasn't in there very long. I think they'd be a pretty safe bet though as Yamaha quality is always good.
 4. I was looking at these in my local PMT on Friday. In a shop full of the usual Gibson & Fender tedium they really stood out.
 5. Masses of fake SM58s out there, you're not guaranteed a genuine one even from a music shop these days. If it's a bargain it's probably a knock-off.
 6. That looks like it should cost about £150. Having said that I've never seen or played a Status that I've liked.
 7. I don't really listen to any music these days, ever since I've been unable to have my hi fi set up in the house. If I do listen to anything it's on my iPod or on my laptop, which is such a miserable experience that I tend not to bother.
 8. Nothing wrong with the Tonepump, much better than most preamps I've used.
 9. What I thought of as "The One" has always turned out not to be a few years later.
 10. Boo Hewerdine's song "Murder in the Dark" contains a snippet of "Love Hurts".
 11.
Joni Mitchell - In France They Kiss on Main Street / Bye Bye Love (Everlys)
There's "Chinese Cafe/Unchained Melody" from "Wild Things Run Fast" too.
 12.
Don't forget Cheap Trick. They must have pretty much kept Hamer in business during the early days.
They had a lot of really high profile bands using their guitars right from day one - The Police, Jethro Tull, Cheap Trick, The Pretenders, The Cars & Wishbone Ash to name a few.
 13.
You need a long fuse, patience, the ability to be messed around a fair bit and generally a professional attitude.
That's me f***ed then.
 14. Well, a USA one won't be on Ebay for £150 including an amp for a start..... USA Hamers always have a small "USA" at the end of the Hamer logo on the headstock. Import models will also have some additional writing on the headstock - "Slammer" or "XT series" for example. Hamer USA serial numbers are stamped into the wood on the back of the headstock, import models quite often won't have a serial number, or if they do it will be on a sticker.
 15.
Seasick Steve was the support act before anyone really knew who Seasick Steve was at the time...!!
I saw him support somebody in the 12 bar Club in Denmark St. years ago. He was absolutely f***ing sh*t, can't believe how popular he became.
 16.
Here's one hidden on Ebay... http://www.ebay.co.u...OEAAOSwFNZW0x46
That's not a USA Hamer, it's one of the later import models.
 17. A good bass will end up being a good old bass, a piece of crap will always be a piece of crap.
 18.
Therapeutic !!!!!?????..... You are entitled to your opinion, but I just dont understand this concept. Perhaps I just have a special gift, but I can "understand" and enjoy music perfectly, when played at low volume.
This. I don't want to listen to recorded music at gig volume. Give me low volume any day - you can listen a lot longer before fatigue sets in, and you're not being an arsehole by forcing others to listen to loud music. People playing loud music with no regard for others is one of my pet hates.
 19. Twin neck Wal with case for £399 in a music shop in Birmingham in the 80s.
 20.
Last time I did it, I'm sure it added approx 25% to the total, so that would be £150ish on this.
Closer to £250.
 21.
Please can someone tell me how you kill the mwahh on a fretless.
Take the bass to a reputable luthier & get it fretted.
 22.
I'd rather listen to a well played sitar than a chichéd chorus-drenched fretless bass
I'd rather listen to a badly played kazoo than a chichéd chorus-drenched fretless bass.
 23.
Listen to Rod Clements on the early Lindisfarne material - it's a fretless Precision and sometimes a fretless Rickenbacker.
He had a great sound on the first three albums. Bloody good player too.
