RhysP replied to EssentialTension's topic in General Discussion
Did she go 'cos of the Shakin' thing?
Yeah, they kept squaring up to each other in the street. Something had to give. -

Cardiff is the same with the whole multi-million pound Shakin' Stevens tourist industry. -
Finally found an old photo of my Supernatural I had built for me in 1984, sorry the quality isn't great:

Responsible for 1 in every 100 jobs in Liverpool? I'm amazed at this statement - there are people with jobs in Liverpool? -
Depends on the olive oil - lots of cooking oils have things added to them to make them more flame retardant. Also, cooking oils will go rancid, which is probably why you don't see them added to polishes.
I wouldn't say that I hated it. I'm fine with the actual playing bit. It's the beforehand, interval and afterwards that I don't like.
That's exactly the same as me - the actual playing bit was fine, it's before & after that was so stressful.

NBD - yep, it's a beat-up, 40-year old MIJ Precision clone...

Daion used to make some really nice acoustic guitars, they tend to change hands for more than they cost originally these days. That truss rod adjustment system is a lot like the Baldwin era (70s) Gretsch truss rods. -
I'd like to add "Hadestown" by Anais Mitchell to the list. I've seen it referred to as a "Folk Opera" and is a reworking of the Greek myth of Orpheus & Eurydice, setting it in a sort of Depression era USA environment. Superb album.
Chris DeGarmo was really the musical creative force behind Queesryche, they were pretty much doomed when he left.
Yeah, they were never the same when DeGarmo left.
I have aspergers, and find the people thing awkward.
Having been diagnosed with Aspergers last November it finally made sense why I always hated gigging so much.
I do have the original knackered pot. I would rather have a replacement pot than go to all the hassle of getting a pot refurbished just to retain value. Why in all seriousness should a bass be worth any less because a small worn out electrical component is replaced?
It's an '81 - a new pot isn't going to effect the value compared to something like a '50s Precision. Even having the original pot refurbished would effect the value if you're the sort of person that worries about these things. That's just the way it is when you get involved with buying & selling vintage instruments.
-
I would say that it depends on if the instrument is a sought after vintage one or not. If you are selling, for example, a pre CBS Fender then it will be more valuable the more original it is. With new basses it's less of an issue, as certain upgrades (Better pots/wiring, upgraded pickups & bridge) can sometimes make the bass more desirable than the stock version.

Looks a lot like the Schertler Jam acoustic amp, they're really good too.

I've never used the Vox thingy but the Rockman Bass Ace is a piece of crap, nothing like the older Tom Scholtz designed Rockman stuff. Somebody bought up the Rockman name (think it might be Jim Dunlop) & produced the Guitar Ace, Bass Ace & Metal Ace & they are all rubbish.
-
I'd never go back to using Trace stuff, I grew to really hate it & the last couple of times I've seen bass players in local bands that have had a really terrible sound they've all been using Trace stuff.
I respectfully disagree with this- it sounds different and not always in a good way.
This is why I went back to four strings - I hate the sound of the lower strings played higher up the neck.
Back when I was starting out on bass the first time around (early 80's) Me & a pal found out where Ex Eddie & The Hotrods, and current (then) bassist of the Damned, Paul Gray lived One sunday morning, a mate & myself just cold-called at his house, and asked him to show us some Damned basslines - cheeky gits that we were! He showed us into his house, and sat us down in his music room, gave me a free bass lesson, let us play on his Rick, which had been on TOTP, OGWT, and several albums. He said it was time for his lunch, gave us his phone number and invited us back Thing was, next time, instead of phoning well ahead & planning, we didn't give him much notice again (think it was about 2 days), saying we wanted to learn a couple of Damned songs, and a Hotrods song for a gig next week, and the legend of a guy accommodated us! Again, free lesson, and got invited back. Shortly afterwards, Paul joined UFO, and offered me tickets to see them live in Cardiff Now, years later, I bump into him locally from time to time. He's always friendly & chatty, shakes hands, and even remembers my name He was very ill a few years back, and I was gutted, and told him so. He said he was overwhelmed by the amount of good wishes he'd had from locals, and even facebook friends who he's never even met. Still as nice a guy as anyone could ever wish to meet, and still one of my main influences years on. Great guy PS. As someone else said earlier, so is Billy Bragg. I've met him & chatted a couple of times. As suggested, I think the money secondary for him, he's a man of principles Good to read similar stories from other BC'ers - Nice thread
Paul is a lovely bloke.

Too many options & more money than sense.
