Knighton Guitars isn't too far from you (if I remember correctly). They've got a good range & they stock UK built Atkin acoustics, which HAVE to be tried if anyone is considering a high-end acoustic purchase. http://www.knightonmusiccentre.com

I don't play bass at all anymore, I only play guitar. I'm a pretty terrible guitarist but I find that I get far more enjoyment out of playing guitar badly than I ever did out of playing bass well.
I think what RhysP is getting at is that someone from the Basschat community - not a shop or luthier - could have a look for you to give some advice (we're pretty good at that sort of thing on here). Without being with the bass there's far too much room for guesswork. Hope someone local can step up and help
Yep, that's what I meant.

Where are you? Maybe somebody who does their own set ups could take a look at it for you.

Can't go wrong with Japanese Fenders IMO - I have a CIJ 57 RI Precision & a CIJ Jazzmaster guitar & they're both great instruments.

I found mine to be a bit of a one trick pony to be honest - did the Mark King thing brilliantly as you'd expect, but when I tried putting heavier strings on it & using it for other types of music I was always disappointed with the results. The neck was a f***ing nightmare too, it would have been more stable if it had been made out of marshmallows. I actually part exchanged my Jaydee against a 'super jazz' type bass (Levinson Blade B4) & never regretted it for a second, it was a far better bass in every aspect IMO.

I'm totally with you on this Matt.
A few have. Most responses I get to it though is people misunderstanding what I'm saying (room=woomb, rare=where, etc).
Whatever you do don't attempt Up Town Top Ranking.....
That album passed me by
It passed most people by in the UK, it did very well in Europe though. -
Confidence. It might also just be that you can sing, you just don't have the kind of voice you'd like to have. I'm told frequently by people who hear me sing that they like my voice & that I sound just like Glenn Tilbrook from Squeeze. Personally I find this really disheartening as if I had to write a list of people I'd like to sound like Tilbrook wouldn't be on there.
I know little about how pickups work so this is probably a ridiculous suggestion, but would the E string being nearer the center of the pickup make any difference?
I remember reading somewhere once that the position of the E string with regard to the magnetic field generated by the pickup on a 4 string bass is different to on a 5 string & this somehow effected the tone of the E string. I'm not saying this is right or wrong mind, just relaying something I once read.
I will pass, though back in the day Blackmore was a terrific guitarist IMO. Reckon there will be plenty of interest, if only to see Blackmore play electric guitar again after all this time
He's never stopped playing electric guitar, I don't know where people get this idea from. I've seen him with Blackmore's Night & he's played electric guitar every time, and as well if not better than I've heard him play in the past. -
Rainbow's bassists were Craig Gruber, Jimmy Bain, Bob Daisley and Roger Glover, but not all at the same time
And Greg Smith, who played bass on the 1995 Rainbow album "Stranger in us all". -
There's going to be a reason that dates are booked, tickets are on sale, but the only member of the "lineup" that's been announced is Uncle Ritchie. J.
It's not like he's never gone out under the Rainbow name with a bunch of unknown musicians before, in fact I seem to remember that the vast majority of the members of the original Rainbow lineup were unknowns too. I guess the reason he's doing it is that for years he's had to put up with people whinging about the fact that he doesn't play the old rock stuff anymore, but when he decides to do a couple of dates doing just that people whinge about that too. -

Apparently there are going to be various guest vocalists - seeing as Ronnie is no longer with us I guess that means Graham Bonnett & Jocelyn Turner. Haven't seen any mention at all of the band line-up. -
In my experience (a friend of mine has quite a few Japanese ESP guitars) the difference in quality between the LTD models & the 'proper' ESP stuff is massive. If you've got & like a LTD then I'd be very surprised if you were disappointed by the ESP.

Take it somewhere else - not a shop, somewhere independent. Nobles will be more interested in trying to sell you a new amp than repairing yours.

That means I can save time by not going to see two bands I don't like at once. -

Graphite necks are better!!!!!...........discuss......
RhysP replied to chrisanthony1211's topic in Bass Guitars
I loved my pair of Zon Legacy basses when I had them, easily the best basses with the best necks I owned in 36 years of playing. -
All the posts about getting him to listen to how crap he sounds are making the assumption that he will think it sounds as crap as everyone else does. The fact that he continues to use his particular sound would unfortunately tend to indicate that he's quite happy with it.
A lot of people seem to think, just get rid of this guy, but it's not always that easy. Has anyone asked if this guy is maybe a mate as well as a band member? Maybe he owns the van that takes them to gigs or something. The op has stated that he doesn't want to go down this road, so obviously saying dump him, is not an option .
But if the guitarist doesn't listen to, or agree with, what people are saying about his sound then kicking him out or the other members quitting & finding another band are pretty much the only options available, apart from carrying on as before which it doesn't sound like the band want to do. If a band is going to keep an unsuitable person in it just because that person is a friend or they own a van then they have no other option than to just put up with it being crap, stop moaning & get on with it, sh*t guitar sound & all.
