1.
Good. Please can you save me some time and post a link or the information here? I've got a good size bag here to go to them.
Here's a link to the website: http://weneedstrings.com They're not taking any more strings at the moment though unfortunately.
 2.
U2 couldnt!!!
I wondered who'd be the first.....
 3. Can you delete this thread please mods? I've found what I was looking for. Thanks.
 4. There was a thread on here a while ago (I thought it was pinned but I can't find it) about a place that accepts string donations - anybody know where it is? Thanks.
 5. Do you have to play "Rhythm Stick" in a gigging band? If not then why beat yourself up over not playing it properly? I've been playing bass for 36 years, I've never bothered with Rhythm Stick as I f***ing hate the song. Just because it seems to be some kind of bass players rite of passage thing has never been a good enough reason to learn stuff I can't stand. I most certainly don't have "The Funk", but as I don't like or listen to funk music I've never regarded it as a problem....
 6. I find the daily grind pretty unbearable & think "F**k this!" several dozen times a day. I would do this whether I played an instrument or not though so I don't think that's got anything to do with it in my case.
 7.
Lovely
Thanks. I saw it & just had to buy it.
 8. A MIJ Fender Jazzmaster in Burgundy Mist. Which I have just bought.....
 9. Very nice & not a bad price. Looks legit. Shame it's not a Jazzmaster, I might have bought it.
 10. You are not happy because you have far too much choice.
 11. If you want a hardshell case you won't find better than Hiscox cases.
 12.
I very much doubt that a large proportion of the audience know or even care how the music is produced. If they did, they wouldn't be there, they'd be watching bands.
I don't think people who go & see bands are that bothered about how the music is produced either to be honest, unless they also happen to be musicians themselves. All people want to do is go out & get wasted with their mates. If people were that bothered about the music they wouldn't spend half the gig they've spent £50 to see buying overpriced beer at the bar & the other half talking to their friends & checking their f***ing phones.
 13.
I don't know. Our drummer seems to be out every weekend watching some band or other in various venues. There's obviously a big market for it.
There is indeed a big market for it. Doesn't stop it being tedious beyond belief though.
 14.
....Rush and Queen would never just turn up at a gig and play the record to the waiting throng!!
But that is exactly what Queen used to do when they performed Bohemian Rhapsody! When it came to the middle 'Operatic' section they all left the stage & just played the recorded version, then came back on for the rockier end section. Saw them do it in Cardiff in 1977, and it's also what they do on the 'Live Killers' live album.
 15.
Well it worked for Peter Frampton ...
I guess it depends on how you define 'alive'....
 16. They'd be better off making their band 'come alive' by playing something other than bloody blues rock.
 17.
Also noted on the Wikipedia page that the album wound Garry Bushell up at the time so that's another plus point..
Excellent - I love it even more now.
 18. You've done a fantastic job there, nice one!
 19.
Never would have thought of Magazine as a prog band (not sure I do now!), what makes you think of them as prog? I've seen early Simple Minds included in prog rock conversations but never Magazine. Edited to say, I've just revisited The Light Pours Out Of Me and I'm shifting my stance!
Listen to "Back to Nature" from "Secondhand Daylight" - totally prog, even the bass part sounds like Chris Squire.
 20.
Discipline by King Crimson
Definitely a strong contender for the title.
 21.
For my money, the essential difference with prog. was that, unlike most other genres, it was essentially 'English', not blues based and not dance orientated. Adding stuff around epic fantasy, mellotrons and long solos was peripheral. It is music that is generally less 'groove' orientated and more cerebral. The fact that there was no expectation that I would have to dance to it was a major attraction
The lack of blues influences was the main thing that I loved about prog, that and the "Englishness" of it, the same reasons I love traditional English folk music.
 22. Superb!
 23.
....but would you consider Six by Mansun to be prog-rock?
Absolutely I would. I cannot listen to much of the 70s prog I loved for years anymore, it bores me to death. Six, however, is an album I still play regularly. It ticks all the Prog boxes for me but doesn't sound like it was made by a bunch of drippy upper middle class university boys. I would also class Magazine as a prog band.
 24. Ghastly looking thing - the Epi Jack Casady is much nicer IMO.
 25.
I compose on a hand-held device. It's called a guitar.
Beat me to it.
