1. It's a '76 - Fender quality control was at an all-time low then.
  2. I'm self taught, never used a book & never had any interest in the whole YouTube thing. I bought a few books over the years but never got on with them, just found it too much like being back in school. Apart from the first few years when I started playing when I was obsessed with it I've always been very lazy when it comes to learning stuff. It's the main reason I could never play in a covers band, having to sit down & learn a load of songs is my idea of hell.
  3. Check out some of the Tokai semi acoustics - I've got a Tokai 335 copy & it's a bloody lovely guitar, only cost me £150 secondhand too. They do an ES175 style guitar too.
  4.
Great band, and probably very nice to stand behind!
The view did influence my choice..... I've seen them live a couple of times & they are bloody good, and I love their songs.
  5. Many years ago I swapped a dog of a 70s Rickenbacker 4001 for a Wal (an early one with a scratchplate). Didn't like that either so I flogged it.
  6. Welcome. Let's see some pictures of the Aria.
  7. What difference does it being difficult to come by make? In my experience limited edition instruments tend to hold their value less than standard ones.
  8.
nope not saying that at all.....
I was just being humorous.... but Cardiff really is sh*t. Anyway - Case has now found a new home via Gumtree.
  9.
The problem is it's in Cardiff....
Yeah, Cardiff is pretty sh*t.
  10. I've got a tweed case that came with my MIJ Precision that I don't use that's going free if anybody wants to come & get it. It's got a lot of scuffs & marks on the outside (the perfect case for your relic'd bass ) but is structurally sound. All the catches work perfectly, the case locks, & the inside is like new. Collection only from Cardiff please.
  11.
There is no perceptible difference in 'feel' between a graphite or wooden neck, it's all down to finish.
This. I've had people play my Zons not knowing they had graphite necks & they had absolutely no idea until told them.
  12.
Besides I wouldn't describe a cello as "twangy".
I was just thinking the same thing.
  13.
I've heard graphite is much heavier than wood. True or false?
The Zon Legacy fretless I used to own was easily the lightest bass I've ever come across - unbelievably light.
  14.
So often are the unlikeable also talented. Apparently I'm fairly amiable, so what does that tell you?
At least you're amiable - I'm a total **** & I've got no talent whatsoever.....
I do love a Gretsch 6120 type. I miss my old Streamliner, but it did go to fund a Stingray.
I did the opposite - flogged pretty much all my bass stuff & bought this.
Sexy looking!
It's #3 of a limited run of 12 Gretsch Anniversary models with a gold finish made for a music shop in the US last year. It just happened to come up for sale in Bristol at the same time as I'd sold a pile of gear I wasn't using so I had to have it. I've always loved Gretsch guitars.

Picked myself up this little beauty yesterday:
  18. Richard bought my Markbass combo off me this afternoon. Met up in Bristol, couldn't have been an easier or more pleasant transaction - great person to deal with. Many thanks Richard!
  19. I'm covering a Courtney Barnett song on Friday apparently (me on guitar & a female singer).... Haven't even listened to it yet.
  20. Mark King's white Jaydee had them inlaid all over the neck. I used to help out in a music shop in the late 70's/early 80s & we used to order custom Jaydees for people, who sometimes wanted the cherub inlays. They just became known to us a "Flying Pigs", and if we ever called them that when talking to John Diggins he'd go nuts.
  21. What's the inlay at the 12th fret - is it one of the Jaydee Flying Pigs (Cherubs)?
  22. Do you get any buzzing or clicking when you lightly touch the strings? Or a buzz that stops when you touch the strings? If not then it's unlikely to be an earth problem.
  23.
Fair point. Did you have your name on yours?
No, though it was an option. I don't have much of an ego.....
