WITHDRAWN Squier JV 1st Series 57 Precision WITHDRAWN
MoJoKe replied to Pestie's topic in Basses For Sale
I have an identical one of these, which I bought new in Bath in 1982, I still have the inspection tags. I now pretty much only play 5 string basses, I sold 2 x Wal Mach 1's because they weren't getting used, but I'll never sell my '57 Fender by Squier Precision! Whoever buys this will not only have a great investment, but also one of the lightest, sweetest P basses ever made. Proof, if any were needed, that this IS a Fender! : - -
I will let the markbass chorus go for £100 - lots of pedal there.... Quick sale needed.
Bump for a stunning pedal at an amazing price! These do a lot more than can be controlled by the four knobs. Connect to your pooter and you can tweak so much more (Low Cut, High Cut, Waveform - choose between Sine and Triangle, and 8-band Graphic EQ, among others)... I already have one one in my Multiamp, and it sits there in most of my patches....
As previously mentioned It would be great to have a patch sharing space
I'll ask the other mods if and where best to put that here...
I have had the operation on my left hand and it went extremely smoothly. I was hoping, at some time in the future, to get the right operated on too. I have great sympathy for you and hopefully it's just inflammation and it will get better soon.
Yup, as said, I had might right done first, so had absolutely no concerns about its efficacy if all went to plan. i think if I had had this experience on my first op, I would never have considered getting the other one done! As a brief update, I have maintained a fairly hefty dose of Naproxen (like Ibuprofen, but considerably stronger and prescription only), which helps control inflammation. I am no longer suffering the burning, numb pain, and while subjective, I think the numbness is very slowly receding from hand towards fingertips. As a long term CTS sufferer, I know that if I have successfully been able to release the pressure on the nerve, by stretching, flexing and "shaking out" my arms/hand, the symptoms disappear uniformly. So, to me, this progressive relief would seem a logical process of healing if the nerve had been pinched or damaged during the surgery, taking longer to repair at the furthest point. I can live with that as long as long as I get normal feeling back in a reasonable time (ie. within the time for the scar to heal). On a positive note, this time the (different) surgeon dressed my wrist differently. Last time I was put in a splinted dressing, with a plaster cast inside it, to restrict movement. This time was just a fabric padded dressing, which has allowed slightly more movement. As a result I already have considerably better dexterity than last time. Fingers crossed (I can already do that!) normal service will soon be restored...

I have one living permanently in my gigbag as a "get out of jail" tool. As said before, for less than £30 you can't go wrong, and its bound to save my bacon one day!
...let your band know that you may not be able to play those gigs. That way, they can have a dep on stand by.
The guys already knew the risks, and have it covered if need be...
...Sometimes you have to be a real pain in the arse.
Agreed, and have been already! They say the only other option is to open it up again to investigate, which has an even higher risk of nerve damage if it hasn't already. On that basis I think best to hang fire and re-evaluate on Tuesday...

I am in a bit of a mess and not able to do anything except feel terrible at the moment, as I had Carpal tunnel surgery on my left hand on Tuesday, and things haven't played out well so far... I had my right hand done in January and it couldn't have gone better. I had immediate relief from the symptoms as soon as the anaesthetic wore off and I was back to playing within 3 weeks. This time, living nightmare, the symptoms have been far, far worse post-op than they were before. I knew it didn't feel right as the anaesthetic wore off, I had severe burning pain and no feeling at all in thumb, index, 2nd and half of 3rd finger. I went straight to A&E in Exeter, and after doing ultrasound scans they decided the best thing to do would be to remove two of the tighter stitches, and squeeze my hand to see if there was fluid build up that could be drained (F*****KING owch), re-dress me and send me home. Yesterday the pain had eased, but still no feeling. Three days on things are marginally better but I still have very little feeling in my Index and 2nd fingers... hoping for an improvement over the weekend, and I have a followup appointment on Tuesday, so cannot do anything until then. If you'd asked me on Monday if this was worth having done, I would have said, don't be a wuss, man up and get it done, the anaesthetic injections are painful, but otherwise its a breeze. In the light of this week's experience, on Wednesday morning I was in a very dark place wondering if I would ever play again. I am now just worrying I won't be able to recover in time for a very busy July/August of gigs, and still be left with residual nerve damage. If you've been to the same place and bounced back, your reassurance would be most welcome at the moment...

I have just shipped a Lakland Bass to Zbynek. The transaction was really simple, and so was the shipping. I am always a little concerned about doing business with a newbie, particularly if not in the UK, but this guy is a diamond and a credit to the Basschat community. Deal with him in complete confidence. Feel free to PM me if you have any concerns about him or the shipping (Interparcel - This is the second bass I have shipped to the Czech Republic with no issues at all).

It is with deep regret I am selling this, it is a lovely player, with tone to die for, but my poor old back is struggling with the weight of it, so I have already replaced it on stage with a much lighter Jazz bass.
OK, so with some good interest, but no firm sale yet, the price is reduced to £650.00. This includes the bass, a gigbag, the new, spare scratchplate, straplocks and the "Vol/Pan/Tone" bellplate.
Don't get me wrong, its no heavier than many basses, its just that I do like to jump around a lot when playing and just too heavy for me (the same reason I don't get on with MM or Sandberg!), weighing in on the scales at exactly 4.5Kg, or 9.93lb I bought it here about 18 months ago, and for two reasons it immediately replaced my 55-02 as my main gigging bass, 1. I mainly play in a sixties band and it looked "right" (where the 55-02 looked just plain wrong!), and 2. the sound from this thing is immense! These don't come up that often here, I suspect its because they understandably tend to be keepers... When I first bought it, the previous owner had replaced the original bell plate with a "Vol, Pan, Tone" plate, which also had a useful little mute switch on it, but he also supplied me with the original one which it is sporting now and you are welcome to the other plate as part of the deal. When I originally picked it up it was also sporting this gorgeous red tortoise shell pickguard, which has stayed firmly put! Again, the original one supplied is also part of the deal, you can see it in one of the pics. It is brand new, still with its film on. If you came to the 2015 Mansons show, or LBGS 2016, and tried out some Markbass gear on the MSL stand you may already have played this bass, which at the time was sporting an East J-Retro. I took this off a month or so ago to put in another bass and, on playing the JO5 without it, wondered why I bothered putting it on in the first place! So apart from the scratchplate and some Schaller straplocks (again, you can have all the parts for these!), it is as it was supplied new. The serial number starts with 0611, which makes it built November 2006, as for condition, see for yourself in the pics, taken this morning in the rather brutally revealing, bright morning sun! There are a couple of marks on it, all of which you can see, but nothing major. There are some very slight bruises on the headstock, but the varnish is not cracked. There is a very small and shallow 1cm scratch on the top waist, which you'd struggle to see, and there is a small amount of buckle rash on the back, but again no cracks or broken paint. While I am giving so much away, you might as well have it in a perfectly serviceable Ritter gig bag! I am not interested in trades, as I already have taken a new one in. You are welcome to come and have a play with it (I live by the A303 on the Somerset/Devon Border), or I am happy to ship it at your expense.
Surely the new Sire V7's erased the need for us to pimp out CV and VM Squiers! Haven't they?
Quite possibly, except for the rather awkward fact I have already just bought the squier, and didn't plan to ditch it just yet!
Only thing I've had done to mine (4 string rather than 5) is the series/parallel switch. In series mode it has a sort of J/P hybrid sound, which I prefer on the most notes, while parallel sounds better to me on the high end.
Interesting idea. If I were leaving it passive I would do this!
I still have no GAS whatsoever for pedals or amps since I got mine (although I did cheat and keep a DHA valve preamp / DI as a spare). I'm digital forever now.
Ditto. I have a Behringer BDI21 in my PA flightcase, just in case, but no plans for needing to change my rig for a good while to come. I'm doing a gig shortly which has specified no backline, in-ear monitoring only, I am looking forward to trying mine out just as a preamp/FX, which is a first for me, but might just be the future! What are you using for a pedal? The MarkBass one is totally plug and play, but quite limited as to what it can do, as you are limited to 8 buttons, and you have to change modes before you can switch between amps and FX. The Softstep is slightly more complex to get setup, but similar price, and once you put the correct firmware on it, it is so much more versatile. On stage I swap between a fretted active bass, and a passive fretless. I have mine set up so that I switch between three scenes using the main left/right keys on the right of the pedal. Each bank of 10 buttons are then labelled:- FRT : Has a different amp/effect chain patch on each pedal, configured for my active fretted bass FX : This is sits in the middle of the three, and has a tuner button, a tap tempo button and then 8 effects buttons, which are set to control types of effects, rather than specific ones (ie. mods, delays, drives, octave, etc) all of which can be pre-configured on the Multiamp itself. FLS : Has a different amp/effect chain patch on each pedal, configured for my passive fretless This means that I can simply swap my bass, choose the correct patch for the song, then go to the middle FX scene, and whichever amp/fx patch I am using, I can then switch effects on and off with the same button layout (ie button 1 is always Drives, 2 is Modulations, 3 is Pitch, 4 is Delay, 5 is Filters, etc..) I find this layout gives pretty much infinite possibilities. The only thing I have struggled with is configuring a volume button (I don't want to have to use yet another pedal on stage. We use a Behringer desk, and on the Softstep X32 scene I can toggle reverb, but also have 4 volume buttons, set up X/Y, which adjusts the desk master output level and each of the three vocals). Currently I cannot find a similar Midi control for the master gain on the Multiamp, but I'm sure I can find a way! It also looks really funky glowing away on the stage!

OK, so my Lakland JO5 is a beautiful bass, but I'm struggling with its weight on stage, so as quite a few here, I have bought an Olympic White Squier VM5 from Basses for sale here to see how I get on with it. It arrived yesterday, so last night unpacked it and gave it a good bash... very slight nail/pick scratching on the the scratchplate, but its black and it doesn't really show - apart from that it looks brand new, so all good. The neck is set well and very playable, though as I expected the B is a little flabby and rattly at the moment, but the slightly shorter scale feels comfortable. It is going to get some straplocks, a nice new set of Elixirs and a good setup, and it will also be getting a J-retro, which hopefully will negate the need for replacing the pups straight away. What else should I do to it? Bridge? Your thoughts on a postcard please!
The Thomann ones are older ones, No biggie for me with the saving.
Mine's a 2014, very, very happy with it. If on the latest firmware no real difference, only cosmetic to bring into line with the guitar version. The output stage isn't a problem for me as mine is mono. I go speakon to the first cab and link to the second with a speakon. I'm sure I heard somewhere though, that the EU and UK power section is different...

Hi all, My sister is putting together a 3 girl close harmony vintage "Andrews Sisters" type show, and would ideally like to do it with just an acoustic bass to keep things compact and a bit different. Sounds like fun, but it's not really my bag, and I'm flat out with other projects at the moment, so thought I would see if I could find someone here for her. Its a 3 month old project, but all three singers are in place and she is confident it is an outfit which will be quite busy, but probably not fully pro. Can anyone help please? If you can post here or PM me, I can give you more info and will happily pass on your details. Many thanks!
I wasn't able to make it this year unfortunately but did the noise signs work this year? Did folks stick to the 15 minutes?
.......aaaahhhhahahahahahahahahahaha!! yeah right!
Voltage in EU and UK is the same as makes no difference: the old chesnut you quote is to get you to buy from the local importer and to support UK retailers.....
Take it up with Marco, I don't work for Markbass, so have no axe to grind here, just quoting what they have said for so long on their website! More importantly it would be sensible to check whether Thomann are quoting for 2015 models before hitting the buy button....

Interestingly cheap, though the images are of the 2014 model. Also as far as I know, they still cannot sell any Markbass with UK spec power supplies, so if it goes wrong it has to go back to Germany... (this old chestnut:- Markbass amps/combos are manufactured to be sold and used in the country of purchase, and they are factory preset to that country’s voltage. Due to homologation issues, the voltage may not be changed.)
Just noticed the other day how much they have come down in price, a mono one is now around £750
The "street" price for the mono one (GAK etc) is still around £1049, so if you've seen cheaper it may be someone trying to shift a 2014 or demo model, or alternatively the cheapest DV Mark guitar one, which does sell for around that...
Me too! I've been lurking in this thread...!
Haha, Stop lurking, get trying out! Think of the tones you're missing out on, the flexibility and, most importantly, simplicity of setup! I have mine in a 2u Gator abs rack case, I stuff all my cables into the back, and my Softstep fits neatly into the front lid. Gig bag, Gator case and whichever cabs I'm using, and I'm done! No moohassive pedal board, just a simple Softstep which you can drive a truck over without damage. What's not to love! If you're anywhere near the southwest PM me if you want to try it out.
Does this mean, that also with the 2015 model we have no direct "on the fly" access to the master level?
Mine is a 2014,and on every firmware version I have always had direct access to master output level! I believe that the 2015 version now has replaced the knob which used to be the headphone output level, with a master level knob, and the one immediately below it (which used to be master level) is now labeled "level" which I think is a patch output level so should be no different, just in a different place.
