1. You might just want to read this article:- http://www.21frets.com/squier_jv/jvarticles.htm Your Squier may indeed be a very very early one which made its way to these shores, but if it carries the JV name, a Squier it is.... bottom of page 112:- "Following Fender's failure to stem the Tokai tide, the company adopted a 'if you can't beat 'em, join 'em' policy and set up Fender Japan early in 1982. Courtesy of the Matsumoto-based Fujigen factory, the first 'official' Fender copies appeared in the UK later that same year .These were marketed under the 'Squier' brand, borrowed from the VC Squier string company acquired by Fender back in the mid-'60's. The initial imports bore no indication of this now-familiar name, just a vintage-style Fender logo, and the next selection carried merely a small mention; but soon a vintage-style Squier logo assumed it's rightful prominent position on the headstock, partnered by a small 'By Fender' decal underneath." This may be being a little picky, but hey, they get a lot of love here. I have a 1982 big Fender small Squier "57 precision which, if you wanted it, you'd need to prise from my cold dead hands, and I also used to have a salmon pink '62 (big Squier) JV, which was every bit as good, but I stupidly sold it for peanuts to help fund my first Wal purchase in 1985. If this is one of the earliest JV's then it will almost certainly be as good as my '57, so the best of luck with your sale!
I still cannot find old details, but the Fretted one's serial number started 27** from my sketchy memory it may have been 2740 or 46...
Here is the neck plate at the max resolution I can get it:- Blown up it looks more like 2710? Here it is on the gameshow 321... https://youtu.be/3JVRzd8_BI4
 3.
That Olive Ash one looks just like my old one!!!! I do hope so! I cannot remember the serial number, but the dates tally and I have pics, and will post asap!! I cannot remember if I marked this one too, but my fretless had "KGF" scratched in the black coating in the control cavity...
I promised I would post these a while back. sadly I own neither of them now If i could magic these back and make them Mk3 5 strings I would do at the drop of a hat! 4.
Thanks Simon - he is also a very nice man! I have taken a couple of his basses he used on Corrs and Boyzone recordings in part exchange.
Have you got his blue Lakland? lovely looking bass....
 5.
....Looks like I'll be dropping all my current gear in the for sale section and going 100% multiamp!
Yep, it really is that good. I think a few people at the recent SW bass bash were surprised that this thing was so versatile, from the bright warm tone you normally expect from a Markbass amp to full on distorted grunge, and everything between!
....for a warm clean sound (the Sunny US model)
Ooh not tried that. I've only experimented with the Sunny for full-on growly, big sounds with loads of headroom and the gain well up! I must spend some more time playing with that one.
 6.
It's a fairly recent one, was it the early ones that needed a jumper adding?
Indeed, but you never know. it also needs a male to male USB cable... you can buy them at maplin...
 7. For my live sounds I have cab simulation turned off for all patches (not sure it adds anything tone-wise when live, but might be useful for extra gain if you needed it, I might have a look at that) so at the moment can't help you with that one! Yes, doing patch changes with the software is much better, as its quicker to move things about (you can drag the effects/amps between slots) and A/B any changes you make. If you have any issues with the USB it may be that the MA you have has not had the requisite jumper added. Its simple to do if not, I can post the PDF instructions here if needed.
 8. Yes, and yes! well done on joining the MA club! They are parallel so makes no diff, but I always use Speakon to first cab and then another Speakon between cabs. I feel its a tidier and more solid method. Set the MA to manual in the system menu and the master vol will be outside any patch programming. If you want more gain in specific patches you can add an EQ to a spare slot with flat response but up the output gain. Check it's been upgraded to V3 (it tells you the firmware version on screen as it boots up), and if not do the upgrade - its vey simple, you just download it, put it on a SD card and go into the main menu.
 9. OK, so the reason for the new version is simply to bring the bass version multiamp into line with the control layout of the DV Mark version and the enhanced functionality of the V3 firmware. Those with the previous version (me!) do not have compromised functionality at all, just a different control layout. As you say, the MB website is notoriously bad, and it seems to be jumping the gun a bit, as they won't be shipping to the UK until after Xmas.
I know you /can/ just use the gain to balance and master as overall control, but I would very much like the ability to have gain and level presettable, and master seperate and 'all powerful'
You can effectively do what you suggest, by adding a flat EQ (or comp) to a slot and pre-setting (boost or cut) the output gain. The master gain will still control the overall output level for each preset, so this pretty much would cover it....
 10.
....the new '2015' model. Has anyone seen these for sale? I was about to jump for an open box stereo model, but then markbass released the new version.. Now I'm impatiently waiting for them to be available.. Anybody have a hunch when I might be able to get my hands on one..?
A couple of weeks ago I did the Mansons Guitar Show with MSL, and we used my Multiamp to demo as it had my "real world" patches in addition to the pre-loaded ones. While there are definitely new products in the Ninja 1000 and Nano 300, no mention was made of a "new" 2015 model, so this is a new one on me. I will ask the guys and report back!
 11. How did I miss the Rev? A very sixties looking bass and they also did a 5 string. Whats not to love! I want a go!
 12.
....The only thing we established for sure is that the indonesian MarkBass combo is better than the Italian one for weight and sound!
Well, there you have it folks! I think we can put that mischievous little puppy to bed at last then!!! Haha! It really was great to meet you all, so sorry I had to dash off at 2.30, but money doesn't make itself unfortunately (unless I'm getting it seriously wrong!!). Lots of familiar faces and lots of new ones too!
 13.
Looking increasingly likely that I'm gonna have to bail on this. Gutted, am determined to get to a bash someday! Will keep trying to rearrange stuff but not looking good at present.
So, how many have we got coming then? I will have to leave at 3-ish as I have to be in Axminster at 4, so if anyone would like to see the Multiamp in all its luvverly glory it'll need to be early on. Also, and rather disappointingly, I spoke with MSL yesterday and they still have not received their stock of the Nano 300 or the other new amp, the Ninja 1000 (the front panel even looks like an LM3 which has dropped some acid tabs!!). Hopefully sometime after 20th. As long as not needed elsewhere, given some notice I can usually borrow their demo kit anytime if anyone wants to see it...
 14. I think that is the nicest 55-94 I've seen for sale here! Beautiful and lovely looking instrument at a great price too. If I could afford it I would bite your arm off, but I'll have to carry on playing my Indonesian 55-02 and JO5 and just say good luck with your sale!
 15.
Indeed! Is yours an Italian-made one?
I will be bringing and demonstrating my brand new, knockout brilliant Indonesian made Multiamp, Tr121h and tr151, and we'll discuss and put an end to this "is it italian made?" nonsense! I'm hoping I will also have the rather tiny and equally superb new Nano 300, which is also Indonesian made, but even though it is a new product, distributors around the world cannot get enough as all that are being made have already been pre-ordered...
 16. Rich, was that you who brought the Chowny onto the Markbass stand late in the afternoon?
 17. I feel so knocked off this morning that I had to recheck myself haha! My disappointment is that the soft step doesn't take its power from a MIDI device😕 hey ho can't have everything!
 18.
.. why the original MarkBass pedal still needs a separate 9V line...
The Markbass midi pedal DOES take its power from the MultiAmp. I think it also has a 9v connection, but this is possibly because it is a third party product...
 19.
Just need to decide what controller pedal to go with now; Softstep looks tempting as it would be useful for other applications too, but I wonder how well it works with the Multiamp.
OK, so the MB pedal is about £200. I spent all Saturday playing with one at the Mansons Guitar Show in Exeter (I do demonstrations/shows with MSL, but freelance, I don't work for them). Its a very competent pedal and plays extremely nicely with the Multiamp (as you would expect!), and has a couple of modes of operation, which are quite neat. You can use pedals 4&8 to scroll through patches leaving six of the others for CC# for the effects, or you can use 4&8 as bank change and have six pedals with one per patch, at any time you can press/hold pedal 1 and toggle between this setting and accessing the effects. You can always access Tap and Tune by press//hold a couple of keys. It's also powered by the Multiamp, so no separate PSU. Thats it... very simple and very effective. Sadly the Tuner is NOT replicated on the pedal display... The Softstep is £225 ish (also distributed by MSL) with the required Midi box. This is what I use (The original reason for this is because I play in a trio with no sound guy and the Behringer X32 desk stays on stage, so I have set up a scene on the softstep to toggle effects, adjust the Vocal DCA group level, mute channels where required and a bunch of other stuff! As you say, the Softstep does a WHOLE lot more. We are currently setting it up to send Midi to DMX so that when I hit the "Mute Reverb" button between songs, it also toggles between two lighting scenes... not quite there yet, but as the Softstep can send up to 6 different MIDI commands on different channels simultaneously I know it can do it!) For the Multiamp, because I have other projects and also dep quite a bit, I have created three scenes (you simply use the main X Nav keys to toggle between scenes). The Middle scene is all my FX, Tap & Tuner. To the Left of this scene are my main 10 Fretted Bass sounds, each with their own set of effects (which are toggled from the FX scene), and to the Right of the FX scene are my main 10 Fretless Bass sounds (required as my fretless is passive, so the pad settings are different). So, if I swap to fretted bass, I simply toggle between scenes 1&2 and if fretless then I toggle between scenes 2&3. Does that make sense? There are two very slight hassles about using Softstep. 1. It won't work out of the box, you need to know a bit about MIDI (I didn't before I bought mine so I had a bit of a learning curve to do, but I mastered it in a week or so), and 2. that (like quite a few other manufacturers!) Markbass does not support "MIDI Running Status", but don't get hung up about this, a quick email to KMI, and they will send you the correct firmware. Get these two sorted and you will never regret making this decision! Also their support team are REALLY GOOD, and are used to answering schoolboy type questions without making you feel like an ignorant arse! There is a cheaper third option, the Behringer FCB1010, which gets a lot of love, but I have no experience of these. It as a volume pedal as standard which might be quite useful, but you can plug a pedal into both the above. One really neat feature of the new V3 firmware is that you can now assign CC# to specific effects rather than slots as before. The really brilliant advantage of this is that you can assign the same CC# to multiple effects, so for example, all modulations - the same pedal on your board will control the MB CH/FL, the Ninethy Phase and the Chorus. Similarly you could assign all delay/reverbs to one switch. This means that, irrespective if what functions you have loaded in the slots in each of your patches, the effects buttons will always toggle the same modulations, delays, compressors, synth/filters, etc... Hope thats helpful!
 20.
Just watching Yolanda doing her thing. Oh my GOD.
And by the way, why didn't you come and say hi!!!
She is awesome. I don't think it is possible for anybody on the planet to have more groove and funk than that girl!
Sadly though, that Fender amp was well lost in the mix most of the time.... Nick Beggs used a Markbass CMD121h from the MSL stand. She'd have been better doing the same!

 22. Here Ya Go! The jumper needed is a standard 2.54mm one, they sell them in Maplins if you haven't got one knocking about. (Download this and change the file type to .PDF I don't know why BC changes things to .ipb, but it always seems to for me!!) As said it is really easy, and does not invalidate the warranty unless you're really clumsy and bash something when you've got it open!
 23. Yup, i had exactly this with mine at first. Its a very simple fix, but you'll need a jumper as its not "moving" but "adding" one. I'll post you a link in an hour or so when I get home...
