1. That looks whacky and 60's ish.. Might be interested...
2.
How would you suggest to get a good comparison between basses with as little amp coloration as possible?
Direct into an audio interface with no amp modelling, just a bit of EQ, or if you must use an amp then use MarkBass. Renowned for giving the sound of the bass, not the amp.... Nice work though!
3. I'm in need of a sixties looking, but 5 string or a Jazz, bass. The Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar V looks like it would fit the bill very well, but.... I just can't find one to try out... I'm on the A303, Devon/Somerset border, and can easily get to most near-ish music shops, but none of them have one of these in stock. Now I think of it, most of them don't even stock anything with more than 4 strings... One well known one in Exeter kindly suggested they would be happy to order one for me to try, but then followed it up with, "we'll need £50 deposit"... what, for a bass I might not buy, hmmm.......!! Does anyone reasonably local to me have a 5 string Jaguar I can have a noodle on and try out please?
4. Hiya, If this is for a GEB-7, it might help to sort the typo (of the model name) in your heading. you've probably got loads of us all excited thinking BOSS have a brand new model pedal!!
5.
I'd suggest 2 MB New York 121 cabs and an LM3.
+1 for this, or a CMD121P and a traveller 151. (I use a CMD151P and traveller 151, which both easily sit side by side on the back seat of my golf, but then I like the sound of 2 x 15's!)

Hi
...any advice any1 can give will b very welcome
Avoid textspeak! Welcome to Basschat!
7. You'll be sorry! I would never sell mine! none of the mfx tuners ever seem quite so accurate or with as good displays.
8. Yes, please put SOLD in the title, as per forum guidelines.
9.
For anyone with a CMD121P (and I know there's a few of you out there) these make a great extension cab to add some more depth and move a bit of air. I used to gig with that combination and it worked really well
+1 to this. I have a 151p combo and use the traveller to make the ultimate 2 x 15 combo rig... awesome sound and I can carry one in each hand to the car at the end of the night....

Hello
So do I ask this here or somewhere else. Budget for everything is £400, bass, case/bag, strap, lead, amp and headphones....
Scoobs, Hi welcome to the forum! Can I suggest you re-post your question as a new topic in "General Discussion"? The "introductions" forum is frequented by lots of great people, who'll certainly have some thoughts about your issues, but there are hundreds of members who rarely look at these pages!! While I could move this topic for you, I think you'd be better starting a new one, and the general discussion forum is the place for this! For my part, I would have no hesitation in saying start with a reasonable bass, and concentrate the bulk of your budget on this, and if you are not planning to gig for a while, buy a cheapish practice amp. you can always upgrade the amp later, much more important to find a bass which feels good. There'll be a shed load of different opinion out there, but my twopence, a Squier Jazz bass should do the trick for you quite nicely, with a great range of tones and can be picked up for less than half your budget, something like this:- http://basschat.co.uk/topic/219623-squier-classic-vibe-60s-jazz/page__p__2251335__hl__squier__fromsearch__1#entry2251335 (not mine BTW!), still leaving a decent chunk for an amp.... Good luck, I'll watch out for your new post and add to the discussion!
11. I'd say, as it is probs best described as "signal processing" it is probably more an "effect" than and "other instrument". I'm with MB1 on this!
12.
5 string fretless would be my choice as that's what I'm wanting
There you go, the jury is in, ya see!! if not too fussy, I'm not too partial to extreme looking singlecuts either, but some lovely woods would be nice. My old Mk1 Wal fretless had olive ash facings on a mahogany core with a macassar ebony fingerboard which was as tough as steel and very slippery... That had a beautiful tone though a little on the heavy (weight) side, but thats Wal for you! Perhaps a nice combination to think about?
13. five string fretless please!
14. Nice list of weapons, you have no excuse for lurking so long, and will get lots of begging messages to put pics up! Welcome!
15.
You'd get more value for your money buying secondhand from this here forum
He's right you know, and you'll be pretty much guaranteed it will genuinely have been pre-loved. There's some great people here, you'll be in good company! Welcome!
16. Well you don't actually appear to be from waterford, and I have no idea what an "og" is! A big welcome to Basschat, you may find more sensible comment here somewhere, but I doubt it!
17. You flippin London players, think yourself lucky and stop moaning! You're almost as bad about the tube too (it works, mostly, and you've got one, now shut up)!! Come down to Devon/Somerset and re-assess. You'd need very few fingers to count the number of music shops with a proper bass department, and very few, including some of them don't stock 5 string basses or anything more adventurous than a couple of Squiers (nothing wrong with them, have a jazz myself as a spare) for choice..... PS. I'll mention no names for fear of starting another war!
18. I do a bit of demonstrating from time to time for Markbass/MSL (Though I don't work for them, so no axe to grind, and can be critical!! I met loads of Basschatters at the LBGS), and I have had the opportunity to do several comparisons with the Blackline v. italian kit. For example, I lined up the players school 151 combo against my own CMD151p and found it difficult not to be impressed. It kept pace with tone all the way, and really does go bl**dy loud. It isn't an LM3, so of course it isn't "as" loud, and lacks the headroom but gives anyone else's 250w head a good spanking. To quote Jus Lukin, I would definitely pitch it as "just-shy-of-enough in a loud band", but plenty in any pub gig, particularly with 2nd cab. If I was Markbass and wanted to produce a lower entry point product to the same standard and quality as the rest of the brand, then I would also want to make no compromise and look at a far eastern assembler, but with the same high standards for components and quality control. This is what they've done. I do totally get the need to deliver a lower entry point product but I have to say I don't quite get the "student" branding, it does nothing but diminish and suggest "cheap", which is absolutely NOT true. They should have thought of another funky bright colour for their speakers and given it a less "black" name!! Also, I think I'm quite safe in saying the failure rate on Blackline is so low other electronics manufacturers (of anything!) might learn a thing or two!
19. Cracking tuners these! Lots of display options, and (if used in line!) doubles nicely for a mute switch when swapping basses.... I swear by mine!
20. Welcome to Basschat! You'll find loads of advice and useful stuff here, and lots of advice about gear, as there is no longer any need for us to hump heavy gear around and damage old backs any further, but still be loudest!
21. Hi and welcome! There are dozens of really nice and helpful lefties here - I'm not one of them! ;-)
22. Hello and welcome, hope you enjoy being a Basschat member (and that you'll soon be offering free, all inclusive holidays to your homeland!!! )
23.
Middle age?? When does that happen, then?
around 84 I'm hoping!!
24.
How does it compare to the ME-50B?
Much more on the GT-6B! The ME-50b doesn't do any amp/cab modelling, so a little more versatile if using in the studio, direct through PA or rehearsing at home. I used to love mine but stupidly sold it. I would buy another in a blink if I had any spare cash!
