Heellppp!!

Hi Guys, Not sure whether this is the right place to put this, but I need your help. I'm probably not the only one here on basschat doing this, but my band has entered the "unsigned" competition to open the Green Man Festival in August. We desperately need another 6-700 votes by Friday (6th July) to be in with a chance. If you could follow this link and click the facebook "like" button (and share to all your facebook chums to do the same!), I would be eternally grateful!! Green Man Festival and share this facebook event if you can... Thank you!!!

  3. Get into Bristol if you can! A great lineup at the fleece, with a couple of regular Basschatters on stage... 4. Actually to be serious, I prefer to be to the drummer's right, so a. I can face the rest of the band without taking anyone's block off with my headstock and b. so I can see what the drummer is up to! The second one was historically because I spent too long in a soul band where the drummer needed extensive lessons on keeping in time with the band! In terms of hearing myself, that depends on the rig i'm using. Small gig - CMD151p get as far away from the bugger as can (though by the very nature of a "small" gig, that'd probably have to be somewhere off stage!!) as all the useful audible tones get thrown well out into the audience... Big Gig - add HR104, stand anywhere as the 4x10 sits better in the on-stage mix.
  5. Me, I've got radio, so at the bar if still in range....
  6.
Looks nice. I think what I would like though is something like that but that I can plug my headphones into as well.
The Behringer headphone amp works for me... and relatively inexpensive, with passthrough for the monitors and 4 headphone outs with a volume control for each...
  7.
... the dolphins - throughout the f/board (all positions); appreciate that dolphins aren't actually fish, but 'use the dolphin' (Luke) doesn't sound right....
The cetaceans otherwise known as Dolphins!
  8.
Petard means to "backfire" so I gues it's intended to be the band of farters as the French use the word "pet" as fart and, they do love a jokey name over here. Well certainly in this bit of France.
There you are see, the French also appreciate a good fart joke!
  9. My main gigging basses are a pair of lakland 55-02's... Both are strung with Elixir as all my basses are. the big challenge with Lakland is to string through body (and in fact even through bridge i still cutting it fine!) the standard "long" strings aren't long enough, so I use the extra longs which only come as 45-105 with a single 130 taper wound B string. This is a slightly heavier gauge than I used to use on my previous Spector basses, but I absolutey love them. They are nice and soft to touch and slippery, with a beautiful tone, particularly the B, and they last for ages as long as you don't strip/damage the coatings as you pull through the bridge. I just checked, and the last set i put on my main bass was in March. They still look, feel and sound like new, even though they have probably done about 25 gigs and a load of rehearsals (I play finger style, I think using a pick would have damaged the coatings by now...) I've never been lighter than a 125 B string... I suspect you are right, it would lose definition and start clacking on the fretboard unless you played really gently!
  10.
It means "The Angry Fanfare". Also, very nice bass.
Or "Explosive Fanfare" possibly? Yes, nice bass!
  11.
Now you KNOW you have to provide the translation, don't you.
Babelfish translates it as "The Brass band in Detonator", but I think it might be ruder than this...! Perhaps the OP can help here! Find them here: No bass guitars to be found here, but good nonetheless!
  12. By the way, love the Wal. I used to have a bookmatched Olive Ash pair (fretted/fretless) of Mk1's, but sadly not in the Wal owners club for a while....
  13.
I'm in the north west of France in Bretagne / Vannes
We'll have to look you up next time we come over to camp on Ile 'Arz... Last time we were over we saw an awesome street band at the Vanne music festival called "La Fanfare en Petard"...
  14. 1. Alembic 2. Status 3. Musicman 4. Yamaha 5. Fender 6. Overwater 7. Wal 8. dunno 9. G&L? 10. Spector Or sommat like that...!
  15.
nope...as one dimensional as 15's and an antiquated choice.
Crikey, nobody told me that! Glad I've got the HR104 as well then...
  16. I haven't tried their newer models, but the rig I have now been using for the last 3 years is a MarkBass CMD 151p combo with an HR104 cab. I haven't yet done a gig it cannot handle. The amp I run with all tone at 50%, never need to change this (I gig with Lakland 55-02's but this is the same for the Spectors and Wal I've had too. My JV '57 precision likes a little boost, but then that doesn't leave the house often!) except on some stuff I've tweaked the pre-shape (but never used the vintage knob) It offers the ultimate in flexibility. The combo on its own is compact for rehearsals, weighs next to nothing and perfect sitting-on height(!!), and for gigging its pokey enough to handle many pubs I've played in. There is no compromise to sound (that I can discern!) compared with a Little Mark and a separate single 15" cab, and its much more portable. Add the HR104 and this gives you 2 things... 1. unplug the 15" speaker in the combo, and you have an amp and 4 x 10 cab, if you occasionally want a tighter sound, or 2. use all together and have the best of both for larger venues. Can't fault it... And, if you want tubes buy a preamp from Dave Hall....
  17. +1 to the others who say these are the dogs... Got several. Dont want my pride's and joy's (thats meant to be plural!) banging against the floor/walls!!
  18. This is the first outing for the Bo Walton Band since the release of Bo's much acclaimed album, "Waiting on a Dream" (check it out on Spotify/Amazon/YouTube/FB, currently no. 8 in the Amazon Country Download charts, Yay!), and more importantly since I joined the band(!!), at the Exmouth Music Festival, Manor Gardens, Exmouth, Devon. "Waiting on a Dream - A completely new and original album was written by Bo and John David - ex-Rockpile and Love Sculpture bassist - and produced by John at his Berry Hill studio in Gloucestershire. The album features legendary Welsh rock 'n' roll guitarist Micky Gee throughout and also features guitar legend Mark Knopfler on one of the tracks." Sadly the album doesn't feature me!! Next one maybe!! If any basschatters are about, would be great to see you there if you can, we're on stage for an hour at 3.30pm'ish, so easily time ot get to an evening gig if you've got to be somewhere later!!
  19.
It was a joke...
doh, silly me... didn't see that one!
  20.
You take seven P-basses to a gig!?
See above!
  21.
... and what are the seven Ps?
Proper Pre Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance!
  22.
Do any of you just take the one bass?
Nope, never! Always take two. I always carry at least one spare guitar lead, one spare kettle lead, fuses, and if backline is provided I'll want to know in advance what that is, and I'll still put my MarkBass combo in the car. If I'm off to do a gig I don't want to be the one to let anyone down. Remember the seven P's...
  23. Resolved! The foil strip in the control cavity had earths from the bridge and pickups, but this wasn't connected to anything else! A quick soldering job to earth it to the jack socket ring (via one of the pots) and the probelm is solved.... However, why the guy who did the final checks on the bass before it was shipped didn't spot this heaven only knows!! In investigating it I compared the wiring from my older Bart pickup'd 55-02, which was beautifully neat and tidy, the newer bass wiring is an absolute mess by comparison. Rather than being encased in plastic like the older one, the preamp has two strips of insulating tape on to stop the PCB shorting on the foil of the cavity plate, and the wiring is a tangled mess.... not impressed...
  24. Thank you for your help. I have just tested the setup with my other 55-02 which is fine, so it looks like its the Bass...! I've had the cover off and there doesn't appear to be an earth connecting the foil strip (which has bridge and both pickup earths connected) to the rest of the earths, and certainly not the jack ring. Is this correct? I have poked around with a meter and getting 1 or less (with meter set to 2000ohm) on all other earthed components, but 90 or more when between jack socket sleeve and the bridge earth. That cannot be right?
