thanks for the help guys, I have now posted on the LOG too... Andy, you'll love your 55-02 when it arrives (it may have already and you haven't updated your sig text!)! I have two 55-02's, a DLX sunburst (rosewood) and a STD natural (maple) I need to turn one into a fretless, so keeping the STD, as it is lighter and a bit brighter, and looking to either sell/trade the DLX or find a neck for it. I've spotted a 55-01 for sale with an ebony neck, hence the question!

Hi, does anyone know if Lakland necks are the same for 55-01 and 55-02 please? Many thanks!

I've been asked by a couple of people what the neck profile is "C" or "V"... the truth is I don't know if it fits one of these. When I ordered the first of my two basses I went to Electric Wood and chose the facings, and asked that the neck be matched as closely as possible to that of my Fender JV '57 precision. As a result it has standard width at the nut, but a fairly thin smooth rounded profile to the back of the neck. Not sure if this helps... The reflection of the tuners makes it quite difficult to see! Here are some profiles I just did with some thick solder wire. The profiles are accurate, the measurements are accurate-ish, as I don't have a micrometer, or whatever they are called!:-

Would have really like an lined (55-94 or modded 55-02) but I gave in and got a lined 55-02
Oh, yeah, that'd do really nicely...
I have a 2008, fretless, ebony 55-02...
You know you want to trade it for a lovely fretted one... Here's the ebay one... Lined ebony neck from Lakland $400, just had a quote... This is still a lot of money on top of a bass which stands me for £900, so would rather sell/trade as cannot really afford until I sell my Wal...

HI, Yes spoken to Hugh, the rosewood grain is a bit too "open" so not sure this would be a good outcome. Theres a frtted neck for sale on ebay (somewhere in Malaysia I think), and I wondered whether to buy that, and get the fretboard swapped for an ebony one. still a bit pricy though after all work done. I have also contacted Lakland, and they can sell me a fretless neck, but only rosewood, and i ideally want ebony.... They say they only do rosewood for skyline basses, but there are two ebony necked 55-02's on bassemporium.com, so maybe only available in US?

Sadly my experience in this matter led to much dis-harmony as the "band" that my "friend" was in, had a drummer who, with all the "help" he was given by every member of the band, including metronomes, click tracks, you name it... A great guy but refused to believe "he" was as big a problem as they all thought and quit, and the band fell apart...

This is my Lakland 55-02 DLX in 3 Tone Sunburst dated August 09 from the serial number. I bought it here in January last year, its immaculate and it still has the plastic on the rear plate. This is now for sale, (I've been looking for a fretless , and been offered one but with no trade option). Its in 10/10 condition, an un-altered 55-02 DLX with Lakland pups and preamp, and a brand new set of Elixirs on, looking for [s]£900[/s] £850 in a ritter gigbag New pics, just taken in the afternoon sunshine!
My main question is, who the hell was buying these guy's records? MB1. Think they were more popular in the U.K in the 70s...They had quite a few hits in the era Slade,Sweet ,T.rex, Glitter band,Suzi quatro, etc were all chart regulars. This Clip is of the later band without Rob Davis who gave them there guitar sound ....(Tiger feet...,The cat crept in......still remember that heart/arrow guitar on Top of the pops.)
Tiger feet was No. 1 in 1974, which was one of 3 x No 1's, and a host of top 10 singles. The original band split in 1981ish, and I served my time with Les in the mid 80's, touring with other 70's bands, the likes of Sweet, Glitter band, Rubettes, etc. more info here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mud_(band), and I am one of a small select number of guys who had the privilege of working with him. The soundtrack for this 321 appearance was recorded in one take, with just 1 bass and 1 guitar drop-in, at a London studio (can't remember which) in between a lunchtime gig at a holiday camp in Hunstanton and an evening gig in Brighton! I'm glad no-one has commented on the crap miming and the big hair! Now someone buy my bass please!!
One of the nicest Wal's I've seen so far.....would be mine if it had frets on it. Good luck with the sale anyway....
The texture of the grain really is lovely... Sadly I sold its fretted bookmatched pair about 10 years ago... can be seen in action here:- Please no comments on the quality of the miming or the chewing!!
This is a very very special fretless. And very very tempting, considering trades?
Thank you all for your compliments, Yes, its very special, which is why I have had to think so long and hard about selling it, as it was made for me. Sadly no, I'm not considering trades, I am planning a new build...
