....Frankly, anyone asking £1100 for a 4LX is having a laugh.
That's his call and won't comment on that further - I'll stick with my original thought of 800 ish, but thank you all for your thoughts... So, who's got a nice Lakland they would like to trade? This really is a lovely bass...
For what it's worth (no pun intended!) I bought my current Euro 5 (older one with solid maple wings) string for £700 a couple of years ago. I also sold a newer one for about that much. But I'm not really sure tbh. I only sold mine for that much because I bought one at the same price!
Thanks for these thoughts! I would have guessed a stock one is worth between £700 and £900, but it has the lovely EMG preamp, and there is another EuroLX, but a 4 string, up here for £1100 which has thrown me a bit, as prices do fluctuate here! I know it must be worth roughly about the same as a JO5 or DJ5 depending on the market, and I would consider topping up to trade/buy a 55-94.

I would also consider selling, but wouldn't have a clue where to start with the price, as they don't seem to be consistent with Spectors. Anyone wanna chip in with their thoughts...? (other than "forum rules...", I fully acknowledge and agree with that one, but really don't know what it is worth...)

I've had this lovely beasty for a couple of years and it was my main gigging bass for a year until I bought my first Lakland (55-02). It was then I realised it was not the right instrument for my "thing", so it has had little use for the last few months and I would ideally love to turn it into another Lakland. A JO5/DJ5 or a 55-94 and cash your way would be most welcome. Alternatively [s]£800 [/s] £700 of yer english pounds It is in lovely condition except for the tiny marks shown in the pics, and all original with the exception that last summer I replaced the tone pump preamp with an EMG with a mid control, which has made it much more playable and versatile (plenty of aggressive tone when needed, but capable of far more subtlety!). The knobs are now vol, pan, mid and a stacked treble/bass. It has lovely low action and is strung with a new set of Elixir Superlights. Just been sent this by PJ at Spector:-
NB 26** Made in our Czech factory in approx. 2003, so it would be Euro5 with solid maple body wings. Stock pickups are EMG 40DC.
Still an awesome bass, but price now reflects edit!! New images below in response to PM's. After giving it a bit of attention, the bridge has some very slight tarnishing, but I wouldn't have thought this is out of character for the age. The back is in as good nick as the front, with no significant buckle rash.
Have you tried the usual websites? I've got involved with bands through bandmix but this one's probably been the most useful for me: http://www.joinmyband.co.uk/ Good luck!
Yes, the usual suspects, JMB, Bandmix, Lemonrock, all registered with, and nothing beats local (or not so local!) networking among musos, and here's a great place to do it!! Thanks for your help and support! Freddie where are you?!

Hi, does anyone know where I can find a singer for a potential new Queen tribute band in Devon? Based around exeter, lookalike not very important, but must sing and have the right attitude... Not too tall an order, I know!! We want to focus on the pre '82 period.

I went Sunday, had a great day. Many thanks and all the best to all who had a hand in putting it together! High points - TM - Pascal Mulot - and having a nice long chat with my relative, Sheldon Dingwall! Lows - Missing Stu Hamm - though people said it wasn't quite as bad as saturday, the racket!!

Not a Hijack at all if you know some solid, committed players need some bass! I've PM'ed you my details, thank you! My biggest moan down here seems to be the lack of commitment. Having moved here from Bristol 5 years ago, where committed, dedicated players are the norm, It amazes me the number of guys who are happy to free-wheel, rehearse or go to jam nights incessantly or have multiple projects on the go at any one time with no real committment to any of them! Prove it to me if you think I'm being unfair!!
not sure if this is a bit of a hijack here but my old band are looking for a replacement bass player after I handed me notice in before christmas - band is called Smokey Joe - we were gigging regularly round Newton Abbot/Teignmouth and the surrounding area with a few regular monthly slots. 3 (now 2) piece Blues rock originals and covers, own PA, good couple of hours set with a good part of that being originals. Hendrixy SRV rory and the like. I can pass on a number if you're interested? I think if you search on youtube for smokey joe blues blues band theres a couple of songs on there
I'm watching, and I'm 51.... I do own a hoodie though! How much with the j-retro refitted?
BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUMP! Come on people! I'm starting to have second thoughts about selling it, but really I ought to. So my wife tells me. It's on eBay, but I'd rather a proper person bought it (that's you). There many watchers on SleazeBay, but they're probably all spotty teenagers with hoodies or something. Unless you are one of the watchers, in which case that was a joke. Oh yes, and I've mentioned elsewhere on Basschat that I might be up for trading for a PJB extension cabinet for my suitcase. You never know...

I'm really interested in this, but I don't have the money for it at the moment. Any chance of a trade for a 4 string Rebop?
Thanks, I'm very open to trades, probably with some top-up from me, but it must be a 5 string USA Jazz or good jazzalike!!
I owned this one too, bought from Brycebites!! This really is a lovely, playable five string. At this price this is great value and would make for an ideal "first" fiver. ++1 for this bass!! Buy it!!
P.S. Mrs Mojoke named her "Beryl" the purple peril!!

Ibanez Affirma AFR - (withdrawn until further notice)
I've had a look inside the control panel and the 4 strings do indeed have trim pots and can be adjusted individually. I have balanced the levels now. The output from the piezos is not as strong as the magnetic pickup which seems to be a feature of these basses (I've read on Talkbass, anyway).
The ergodyne was the same... not as loud/strong, but an interesting, useable tonal quality also when mixed with the main magnetic pickup.. -
Yes, although I would call it an economic 'evolution' born out of necessity rather than any kind of appropriation you're suggesting. There were only around a thousand of the original hand-crafted wooden ones made around the Spuler design (like mine). All featured exotic, expensive woods, quality parts and took longer than usual to make because of the carving and set neck. I understand they became too expensive to be viable and the Ergodyne, to which you refer, was meant as a cheap, luthite replacement. The originals are in big demand and have become collectable.
I can see why! I bought an EDA905 as my first venture in the joys of five strings. Certainly an interesting beast, but I'm sure a very pale imitation! -
fantastic bass, a black cherry euro 4lx is definately on my GAS list, it looks more like the plum colour in the pics though, bump for a great instrument
Ive got a 5 string euro LX in exactly the same colour. The glossyness and shape makes them look like a really expensive jellybean!!
