1.
always oddly liked the 5 tuners in line... good price too!
Yes, agree! somehow looks less cluttered than big handles on both sides of Headstock!!
 2. I am loving the body colour! It picks up the wood finish beautifully. I'm tempted to do this to my Olive Ash Mach I!!! What about the neck though? I'm surprised you didn't take this back to the original natural finish, as the black makes it look quite dark and heavy?
 3. If you saw my other post for the Dean Edge 5, you'll see that the GAS got the better of me and I bought a couple of Spectors this month, and unlike some here, I don't need 10 basses(!!) so this bass is now available for sale. I bought it brand new last summer, with the intention of taking an angle grinder to it and doing some savage and unnecessary experiments on it...... No, none of that is true, I really thought it would be an interesting project start point to add new pups and a preamp.... I bought the Spectors instead, and this little baby was spared!! Anyway, I've only used it at two rehearsals, its in new condition apart from a tiny weeny nick in the paint on the back of the top horn, by the strap button, which was there when I bought it. It is now set up properly, with a brand new set of Elixir nanoweb Super Lights (Take a deep breath, spend 35 quid on ebay and never regret! Simply the best if you don't use a pick. Very slippery, fast and last 4 times longer than your standard 15 quid set. If anyone tells you the coatings come off, its because they scratched them when pulling the strings through the bridge when fitting. One day Elixir will see sense and make me an endorsee!!), it is also fitted with new Schaller straplocks, I'll throw in a strap with the locks on and it'll come in a fender gig bag. As many on here will agree, you cannot beat the Squier for value/playability, so this would make a great first five string. I can meet you anywhere within 50 miles of Exeter and its yours for just £120!! Library Image, but it does look like this!!
 4.
What kind of price are you looking at?
As said plays like a dream, it's in lovely condition with no knocks, dings or buckle rash, the elixirs are £35 a set (If you have never tried them, do!! Unless you play with a pick, you'll get 3-4 times the life of a standard set, and they are so slippery and fast to play), but I know times is hard... I'd ship it anywhere in the UK in a (tatty but solid) hard case for £220, or if you can meet me anywhere within 50 miles of Exeter its yours for £200.
 5. The gas got the better of me and I bought a couple of Spectors this month, and unlike some here, I don't need 10 basses(!!) so this lovely little beast is now available for sale. It was bought from a fellow basschatter, about 18 months ago so I feel it ought to go back to one! Its in really great condition, has stupendously low action, plays like a dream, sounds fantastic and has a nearly new set of elixir extra lights on. I'll get some pics up as soon as possible. As for a price, I'm open to sensible offers, but bear in mind they are about £349 new and this is a really nice one!
 6.
It's amazing how the 'all on 10' brigade don't understand the less is more concept. Start with tone controls 'off' (in this case EQ is flat... then just add to suit taste
I have just gone from "No Spectors" to two in the last month! I found my first acquisition, a Black Cherry ReBop 5 very easy to get the best tone from. It is more in line with my Wal and my other active bass setups, with B-T-P-V configuration. I loved it so much I bought a Euro 5, (again in Black cherry - I've a thing about purple!!) which is absolutely amazing to play, but I am really struggling with the tone. I've been playing for 30 years, and would not consider myself an "all on 10" man, but I cannot yet find a sound that is as subtle as the ReBop or my Wal. Would it be a stupid idea to swap the pre-amps (no not the Wal's!!), as the GAS fund is now completely depleted. or has anyone got something to trade that might help me?
 7.
MB1. Blimey!.....I misread that as "Dangling Parrot"?... BUMP!
Is that the parrot you can't see in the cage under the table in the photos...?
 8.
If you're not really happy with the bass anyway, then you've answered your own question
Yup, I think I have the, "what to do" one, but not the "what to get"!!
 9.
G&L Tribute L2500? the 5 string version of this
Yeah, just spotted a nice american gold one on ebay. Definitely worth consideration, though the buy now price is way too high...
 10.
Mmm. I'm not now convinced you should be doing this! Find a good Lakland Skyline and solve all your problems in one move!
Yeah, that's sort of where my head is at the moment...! While we all need to look after the pennies at the moment I am worried about making what could be an fairly expensive blunder... PS. While Wal's are still close to the conversation, I have my name on the new waiting list, but have no idea how long could be, I guess you're gonna be pretty attached to yours and wouldn't consider parting with it?! No, bad boy, sorry.... Shouldn't even have thought that out loud!!
 11. Having just checked out ACG website, I'm now up to about £350 for new components, on a bass that feels "OK" but not stunning. At least with the ACG I suppose I could swap into another Jazz if all went wrong....
 12.
If you're playing Soul, Blues and R&B then I don't think a GB or Wal will sound right...
No, this aquisition will be purely for studio work and avarice!!! The Wal definitely won't ever make me sound like Duck Dunn, but the GB certainly can (just ask EBS_Freak! I was honoured with a play on Gabbie at the SW Guitar show and have no doubt!) just not sure I'd be happy taking it into a sweaty pub! I'm really not "convinced" with the Squier... when you pick up a bass, you usually know without playing it that as soon as your hand runs up and down the back of the neck it is "right" for you... its OK, but not quite "right". It is going to cost £100+ for even some half decent pups and another £80 or so for a preamp, plus I'll need to pay someone to route the bodywork for the jack socket and battery (well that's what Mansons have suggested, I should have put that in my original post, shouldn't I!). I guess if that sets it on fire then its probably worth the money, but if not I don't think I'd get the £250 or so investment back, so wouldn't it be better to buy something else?
 13. OK, so I've got some really nice basses. I don't really need more (ha ha!), but I mainly play Soul, Blues, R&B, and don't really have a 5 string which does it for me... In the past I mainly played 4 string, so my JV Precision (Fender Logo'd headstock) was pretty much perfect for the job. For my main gigging bass I now mainly use a Dean Edge 5, but though it plays well (and wouldn't be the end of the earth if damaged), it just doesn't do the right sound... I recently bagged myself a steal of a deal on a slightly shop soiled (you'd be pushed to tell now though...!) but brand new black and white Squier Jazz 5 for £100, but though it is reasonably playable, it is passive, and just sounds a bit flat. You all know what I mean. So here's the dilemma..... Do I try to improve the Squier or trade it and get something second-hand (or new maybe?) which is a little more decent? Bear in mind:- 1. This is for a jobbing bass, not one for studio use, to bring out on special occasions or lovingly play in the bedroom (I will be ordering a GB Rumour or another Wal for my 50th birthday in 2010 to take care of this need!). 2. Including trade, my budget for this would be £500 max. Thanks in anticipation!!
 14. Thank you for the link to this! Sadly for you, I've bought a nearly new condition 104HF from Hammer, here on Basschat, for not a great deal more than your asking price (bearing in mind its a 4x10, not 2x10), though, had I spotted this first it might well have been in touch! We certainly haven't have the luxury of comparing the various generations of MB gear here in the UK, and what you say may be true (I had very early Trace Elliot amplification in the 80's. It was 'effin brilliant kit then, but I happily allowed a couple of decades to pass before I looked seriously at it again! My poor back couldn't deal with the weight now though!), but I have to say, having used live now, the combination of my CMD151P combo and the 104HF is a just the best setup possible, and ideal for all sizes of venue, as smaller gigs can be done by the combo on its own.
 15. Many thanks Ian, I took this to tonight's rehearsal, and all were VERY impressed!! My drummer (don't you just love them!), said it sounds " Hoofin'!! " I think I know what he means, but ideas on a postcard please....! Anyway, very happy with cab and new, bigger sound, thank you! Kevin
 16.
My 702 posts don't seem to have enabled this 'essential' feature......
Me thinks you've either told a little fib and it already has and you're just saying that, or someone has been a martthebasslittlehelper as a result of this thread!!
 17.
Nah, ironically, Hammond plays the bass in the Top Gear Band. May (no relation) plays the keyboards
I knew that, I just meant it sort of looks like him on their website, silly!! haha! PS. Hammond, best stick to the day job!!
 18. Isn't "Thunderfingers" just that James May from Top Gear, making up his paltry BBC salary? (apologies if you are the same "Thunderfingers" on this 'ere forum!!)
 19.
The reason I asked is that I don't want to spend 3 years learning the language of Jazz to find out that I was right all along and that it was utter sh1te.
Got me really laughing out loud!!!! (and I like some jazz... Not much, I grant you, and I still don't really "get" it!!)
 20.
Unfortunately, the '708' does degrade the signal. It is noticable when playing on your own, but maybe not when playing with a band? That newer B2 unit doesn't seem to suffer with this problem.
Funnily enough, I noticed how bad this was at a rehearsal the other night. The problem is my Markbass is so effin good that anything slightly out of sorts will be heard.... PS. Do I get a special sticky prize, for being made officially sticky (knew I was anyway, but no harm in affirmation from ones peers!)?
