1. Heavy cabs and amps - After carrying a Harke Kilo and 8x10 up 3 flights of stairs twice on one tour, that was me done. They went when the tour was completed and I have never missed them Musicman Bongo basses - I absolutely love them. I've had 3 (2 x 5 string and 1 x 6 string). I just have never found one where the neck settled for more than 2 months at a time. I was always adjusting the truss rod. 6 string basses - I used to play 6 string bass exclusively (I've had about 12 of them FFS) but I did feel like a numpty every time I went on stage with one especially as people expected me to zoom about the neck like a loon. That's my issue though and nothing against 6 string basses or, the folk who play them.
2. Man, that is one yellow pedal Just watched the demo though and looks very interesting. Thank you
3. You're a star. Thanks bud PS On a separate note, don't forget to send me all the details as discussed with Alice
4. Top of the pops. Thanks buddy. I shall search out the video and appreciate the insight. I think this is the route I am going to take
5. Very cool. The TC looks like it is the way for me to go. I was impressed with it when I had the RH750 but wasn't sure how it would translate outside of the "box" if you know what I mean. Good to hear that you feel it is an improvement. Thanks
6. Brilliant, thanks mate. That's exactly what I need to know. Does it colour the sound in anyway?
7. Thanks everyone for your invaluable input. Plenty of food for thought. I only use one type of bass (though I have 2 of them) so for me, it's really about having a compressor, setting it and leaving it well alone. I also don't like too many options when it comes to settings etc as I get really bad option anxiety ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. The SpectraComp seems the simplest and most practical idea at the moment but, I am looking in to all the pedals you guys have mentioned. Thanks again
8. Fantastic, thanks T-Bay
9. Very interesting dannybuoy. Thank you. I do use just one bass well, 2 basses but, they are the same model. I really want something that can be set and forgotten about. The path of least resistance and all that
10. Ha ha ha ha ha ha I look forward to finding out what happens next
11. It's brilliant. Really great fun thing to do. I like the interactivity of it all. You guys have built a great place to be. Thank you
12. Ha! Fantastic. I feel brighter already Cheers charic, great idea
13. Loving the new BC layout, nice work one and all but, can someone please explain what the "watts" thing is please? Some people have none and some, loads. Sorry if the question sounds silly but I can't find out what it is and what it is for. Cheers
14. Appreciate this grandad
15. I think you have described exactly what I want JBP. Thank you. I shall check out the MXR as well. Cheers
16. Yeah, I hear you on that but, there is no way I'll be able to try out everything ha ha ha ha ha ha. If the kind folk here start mentioning certain models more frequently, it'll be easier for me to narrow my search. Thanks Osiris, appreciate your input and will certainly look at the SpectraComp. I have used it when I had my TC RH750 so yes, that gives me a good basis for comparison
17. Deep Purple for me. It was between them and Iron Maiden but Deep Purple started me on my music obsessed path.
18. Seeking some advice please? In your opinion, what is the best compressor pedal out there at the moment. I only want to apply light compression but there are so many pedals out there and so many videos where you can't really hear what the pedal is doing, I felt it best to speak to people in the know. Thanks in advance.
19. That is a beautiful bass. Good luck with the sale
20. Oh my, that is quite stunning........
21. Go on, do it. I want to see their faces too.......
22. My Vigier Excess 5. It was one bass that I kept coming back to in Bass Direct. For some reason I overlooked it for other instruments but eventually after much faffing, I went back, played it, got rid of all the other basses I had and took away my now, no.1. It has remained my only bass for the past 4 years and will be my primary live instrument from here on in. I love it so much, I have another on order 😉
23.
He's moved over to the Line 6 Helix now. The Hartke's are just used as Power amps these days. The Helix does all the sound processing.
Thanks for the heads up. Interesting.
24.
The speaker sizes Billy favours don't shape his tone really. The core of his tone is that distortion, which is in those EBS pedals and is apparently cloned from some preamps he used back in the '80s. Part of Billy's tone comes about from just how busily he plays. Some Winery Dogs tracks suffer from him constantly hitting passing notes, harmonics and other little stunts.
Yeah I get that and, it makes sense but with the EB0 pickup at the neck position and in combination with the 15's, that will add to the bass end I would have thought. His technique and setup fascinates me. I was lucky enough to hang out with a fellow member for Mr. Big for a whole day where many drinks were consumed and many tales told but, one of the things that stuck with me was when the gentleman in question stated that he wished Billy would just play with a lot less processing and let the bass breath a bit more. I found that fascinating and quite insightful.
25.
Can heartily recommend: Eat 'em and Smile - Dave Lee Roth First 2 Mr Big albums Both Winery Dogs albums
Listen to the new debut album by Sons of Apollo as well.
