1. I cannot believe this hasn't shifted yet. A lovely bass, a great colour and a top seller. Have a Bump on me and GLWTS
You must have pampered it because when I got it there was not a mark on it!
Ha ha ha ha ha I did indeed. I do it with all my gear. I play the hell out of them but also love them being in near mint condition. I don't know whether that is right but, I'm never going to change 😀
I wondered if it was this one.
It is and, did many awesome gigs with it 👍🏻
Thanks Matt It sure is a nice bass, but like many i am struggling to make it stick on a 5 string....
Ian, I only sold it on because on my GAS for my Vigier Excess 5. If I could have had both, I would have. An awesome bit of kit 😎

This used to be my bass 😀 A wonderful bass. It sounds amazing and plays beautifully. So light as well. GLWTS 😎
6. I know I only owned that bass for a very short time but boy, it's amazing. If I wasn't settled with my gear at the moment, I would seriously look at buying this back. GLWTS
7. I know I promised a review of the Squier Dimension Dlx V but I've been having way too much fun with it to write something but, that will be coming soon. Suffice to say, after a few tweaks, this is a star of a bass
8. The beauty of taste and bass, not everything works for everyone. We all have our own needs when it comes to our basses. Luckily, the Dimension is not a main bass for me, it was to have something different as stated before and for that reason, it works well. It was never going to compete with my Vigier but then, I didn't want it to I've been having fun with the Squier and can see it staying around for a while. Horses for courses. Happy days
9. My main squeeze is my Vigier Excess V which does everything and my go to bass so, the Dimension, as you say, just offers something a little different. I've been a P bass man (both 4 & 5) most of my life, I've tried Jazz basses etc so the Vigier, the Dimension and my '86 P covers all ground I feel
10.
I tried the new Squier Dimension bass yesterday and compared it with an SUB. To be honest, as nice as the Dimension was (and it really was up to the Squier VM standards) the pickup sound didn't do the classic MM sound to me. It felt too much like a modern, active bass and lacked a bit of soul. It sounded good though, it just didn't do that funky honk sound. The SUB had that classic tone. I had a go of a mate's OLP 5 string that, despite being passive, got that stingray tone down a treat too.
I wasn't looking for a MM tone to be honest. I just wanted something a little different that wasn't a Precision or a Jazz and the Dimension basses fitted that bill. If you are an MM fan (please don't shoot me but I'm not though I have tried) I can see why there might be a need to try and compare but not knowing enough about MMs, I'm probably not best qualified to set out a comparison. Interesting point though Mornats
11.
Size-wise,how do they compare to a P-bass?
I have had a couple of US P Basses and the neck on the Dimension is a little friendlier than a P bass and the body is smaller but, still very comfortable. The neck is a nice C shape and very comfortable to play. I'd say it was an 18mm string spacing in the 5 string Dimension
12. If you try one or buy one, let me know what you think. I don't think you will be disappointed
13. I'm a self confessed gear whore and I have been through most makes of basses (sad but true). Anyway, I decided to shift from playing 6 string bass to 5 string about 3 years ago so, I bought a Mike Lull PJ5, as you do. It was very nice indeed but as soon as I had it in my hands, I fell in love with a Vigier Excess 5 and how ever hard I tried to deny it, that lust would not go away. I sold the Lull (not a 35" scale length fan) and bought 2 US Precision 5 string basses. I felt like going back to my roots with the P basses (I still own my '86 Jap P bass) but obviously with an extra string. They were / are amazing but just didn't have that extra something special I was looking for. Finally, I had to face up to the fact that the lusting for the Vigier was not going to go away. 6 months ago, I left my Fender basses and ran away with the bass you see below. It is GORGEOUS! The most playable bass I have ever owned and the most stable too. The sound is incredible live and recorded. It makes you want to play. It makes me feel like I have always played it. Other basses might come and go but I know this Excess 5 will be with me until the end. This is my story, what's yours?
14. You should go and try one. I've been playing it today and seriously, it's a corker. I think this is a keeper. Perfect for what I need it for. Genuinely a lovely bass
15. I went through a huge phase of buying Yamaha TRB6 basses and loved them all but I had one, a TRB6p that was one of the nicest basses I have ever owned. I sold all my other TRB6s but kept that one until I had GAS for a Dingwall AB1 6 string. I very stupidly sold the TRB6p to fund the Dingwall. Gutted! It was a bass of beauty and of special significance plus, it was the one I used at High Voltage in 2010 and every time I see the video, I wish I had kept it. One day I hope that I'll get it back. In the mean time, I'm a converted Vigier user and I know this is never leaving me. GAS sucks sometimes....... PS Sorry for the pic of me but, it shows the bass in all its glory at High Voltage.
16. I took delivery of my Squier Dimension Dlx V 2 days ago. My mate has the full US spec Dlx V and I fell in love with it so when these came up, it was a no brainier as I only want it as a back up / travel bass. The bass out of the box wasn't badly setup but, it's not how I have my basses setup, obviously. It looks wonderful, feels wonderful and built well and, on first testing, the pickup sounds great. I'll wait to give a more in depth report once it has been set up the way I like it and played properly through my rig and, next to my mates US Dlx V. So far though, it's ace and a much nicer weight and feel to the Squier VM Jazz V I had and, that was lovely. Definitely punching above it's weight for £271 via Thomann.
17. Chris, now that is great. Please share what you think and trust me, you have a real gem there PS What band are you in? I'd love t come and check you guys out as you are in the locality
18. Scott, good on ya. The Thumb is a great bass. I had 2 6 strings once....... Man I'm a bass whore. Enjoy and pics when it arrives please
19. This was my bass initially. An absolutely stunning bit of kit. If I could've kept it, i would've but Vigier kept calling me. Someone is going to have many happy years playing this
20. I can see. If I could justify it, I would. I've had 2 Bongo basses, a 6 and 5 and loved them both. No idea why I shifted them on but I will have one again one day. GLWTS, I hope they shift quickly and we never have to discuss this again ha ha ha ha
21. Phew! I keep coming back to that Bongo and I though I want it, I don't need it. I'll be glad for you and me when this thread is closed
22. That is absolutely stunning. GLWTS
23. Ha ha ha ha ha thanks so much. It's been driving me crazy trying to find out what it means. Good luck with the sale and thanks again
