Anything Donald Fagen really, most boring, lifeless tunes, bereft of any energy or joy.

Cotton eye joe would take some bearing. Again it's a novelty record and I defended star trekkin earlier but there is no justification for cotton eye joe.
Im with you on Cotten Eyed Joe. Lets have a listen to it, in all its glory. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NEkXCYrQUAg
And you share some great stuff. But don't take it too seriously - remember the clown whores guy on here a couple of years ago? That's what happens when you do!!
I do jest, as me little smilie faces suggest. Music is suppose to be fun and enjoyable. Steely Dan's lyrics are very funny but the music is so well put together. You can have both. Who is the Clowns Whore guy.??

Now don't get me wrong Eduard Khil is a great baritone singer, but this is an odd one for me. His chortling laughter while singing gets me every time. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t6FUR_nhGX8
Youth of today, they don't know they're born. When I wert lad we had to suffer for our music... etc etc etc etc Reading this thread has given me so much pleasure in so many ways! And it reminded me just how much the cultural context is necessary to understand the culture of even a few years ago. I don't know Bubinga5's age but I suspect not as old and decrepit as some of us. How can you possibly justify Timmy Mallet? Well, maybe not justify but explain... don't forget he was the host of one of the most popular kids shows of the time so he had a premade pre-teen customer base however good or rubbish the tune was. Then there is the tune itsef. A complete zeitgeist collection of summer tunes. Remember that in the 80s and 90s when you went to Spain or The Balearics the discos and clubs weren't playing Pete Tong or Fatboy Slim they were playing these buts of Europop trash. So the Mallett tune had a built in adult audience too. There was a culture of such novelty songs and they were hugely popular and made shed loads of cash. The Timmy Mallett tune is no different to a host of others whic made it to No 1 in the charts. And they weren't designed for any artistic merit. Nope they were just designed to make CASH. We don't really have novelty songs these days as far as I can see. Even Crazy Frog was over a decade ago. Different times! I'll leave youngsters with a couple of No odds to mull over and thank their lucky stars they dont live back then...
I don't care how much money a novelty record like Star Trekkin makes. Its not very well put together and the only reason for making it, is to make money. No musical vision or ability goes into the making of it. There imo is no justifying music like the record from Timmy Mallet .Ok, yes its fun and people probably had a few laughs. Do i appreciate it on any level, No. Im 41 and i take music very seriously.

Timmy Mallet is feeling Hot Hot Hot.. Utterly pointless awful record. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ov11DONu_Tg

This is a sticky subject, as of course music is subjective. But.. there is some absolute garbage out there. I was subjected to this on saturday. Now I'm an open minded ear, but nothing prepared me for how sh*t this is. How on earth this record made money(and it did) is just beyond me. Alan Patridge's Monkey Tennis is a good idea compared to this. The thing that really did me in, is that the song changes key a lot. And it goes on and on and on, and i was subjected to the 12' version. Im not a musical snob, but you have draw the line somewhere. What is the actual point of this record. I have no idea.
I not very excite
I do excite. But I wish he would get back to a great band he had with Emergency on Planet Earth/Travelling Without Moving etc. Dynamite was a cracker though.. I really don't dig Jamiroquai's electronic stuff. For me it takes away all what was great with the band. Maybe this may change my mind.? I think Jamiroquai made some fantastic music by the way, This is proper Jamiroquai imo, and Zender on a Warwick. I just love this music. From the brains of Rasmus Faber on keys in the pink. fantastic horn section, great busy bass playing from the Mad Midget, Melo on vocals.
Hi, I need help, I play a fender p with my fingers, problem is I have quite small hands, I've always found that I shred the skin on my last two fingers quite badly, I lube the old strings which helps a bit but with gigging quite a bit I need something else, so ... I want a clean punchy sound but with a smooth string what do you recommend?
Are you looking for flats or rounds, or in-between .?

So, I strolled into a shop and came out with a custom J...
bubinga5 replied to prowla's topic in Bass Guitars
I'm thinking that's an East also. Do you have any other pics of the unit. What's the tone like by the way with that Status neck. I presume it's very modern sounding.? -
I think the neck on your bass is telling you something.Your hand cramping up, is of course a bad sign and can lead to other unhealthy problems. No strings will help you get more depth on your neck.. Imo
Cheers man, it's amazing, I'm just testing the water. The 35" scale takes a bit of getting used too but the low B is the best around.
To be honest I never noticed the 35" scale length. Maybe something to do with the great necks on JO Lakland,s. I presume the custom option is just the blocks.?

I think this is a great pop soul record from this guy and Daft Punk. A great bass fill's workout around those changes I've had this afternoon. Its a great record for practicing certain fills etc because of the space in between. Its a great record with the DP influence.
Just out of curiosity, where do you rest your thumb when playing the B string? Against the body, or on hardware e.g. pickup?
On the back pickup. It seems I like the tone there for a tighter B string. But I will put my thumb on the a string and rest my upper hand on the E and B string as well as left hand muting.
-
I will probably always use a 5 string now. It just works for me. I can play in positions i cant with a 4, and sixers are either too heavy, and i dont use the high C. The low B is always there for the music i play and love. So the 5ver is the perfect solution for me. I use the B string as a thumb rest and a mute. Does anyone else use this technique when playing a 5 string.
