  1. For sure they are, When im mortgage free in a year a Lakland 5594 or another Suhr is a must. But I think the tools are getting better and better for a cheaper price.
  2. From a shop in Kidderminster. A lovely chap on BC gave me the heads up. Not a mark on it.fairly light for a V7. 9.3 pounds on my digital scales. It was set up badly and i was using the wrong allen key.thus my previous post. .fresh set of DR Low Riders. Monstrous tones. It makes me wonder why i spent thousands on very expensive basses in the past. £240 for this quality of bass, that preamp and those pickups that sound this good. Really.???!!!
  3. If i see another ( how to play fretless video) ive never understood why bass players have to do endless vibrato on a fretless. It has a certain sound but for gods sake stop . George Duke with Chris Mcbride.
  4. Too many factors to quanitfy. Yes body wood makes a small difference. But neck wood more so. Just my op. Hes well know for saying the neck wood/construction makes a bigger difference than body wood.. graphite rods in the necks makes a big difference. Its a sum of the parts. The thing is with this discussion is there are so many factors that go into making an electric bass that make a difference in tone. But neck costruction is the longest part of the instrument that the instruments strings has to vibrate against. If its a lacquered necked jazz bass which are usually maple it will sound brighter. Its because the neck cant absorb the vibration like a rosewood necked bass can.
  5. I dont need your blessing for anything mate. Im not arguing, im just saying that the whole neck has a factor in the sound that comes from the strings. "Sadowsky should show his working or get the fxxk out"? really????? no idea what your talking about.. You wanna go and ask the greatest ever builder of electric bass what he thinks.. Roger Sadowsky is easy to contact on FB. Fill your boots pal..
  6. Apart from a Lakland these are the greatest 5 string electric basses ever made. Especially the early ones.
  7. a thin strip of wood is a stretch. its the longest part of the body of an electric bass the strings have contact with. I will go with what Roger Sadowsky thinks.
  8. Ive played a couple, didn't like them. For me personally there were a bummer to set up. Very uncomfortable. Didnt like the sound of them. And I dont like the look of them. But who am I. Doesn't mean anything to what I think.. The music that was played on them is unforgettable!.
  9. oh I thought you meant someone who builds proper basses. sorry ez. 😆
  10. A stinging song about John Lennon, delivered in such a cool, breezy groove that most people don't even hear the rebuke in the lyrics.
  11. I bet one thing. Alot of maple necks are lacquered so thus giving a brighter imo harsher sound.. no bass maker ever lacquers a rosewood fretboard. As always with these discussions it comes down to a sum of the parts. Put a lacquered passive necked jazz bass vs a Rosewood jazz bass. You could tell the difference slightly. You put active an preamp in the mix and start fiddlydidling. No chance. Personally i couldnt give a monkeys ball bag.im more interested in the music. They both sound great.
  12. Maybe in my nativity i didnt think this through. I would like the BC members to put in some money each to help Dude keep his bass. If Ped would facilitate it i will put in the first amount. If many of us do the same thing. Hey presto. Dude keeps his Shuker. Bit like a crowd funding thing ?
  13. If anyone is in need of keeping his bass its the The Dood. Im aware he loves that bass. With his input to the bass world through YT i think he deserves to keep that bass..I dont mind putting some cash in to help . Anyone else in.? Would hate to see him loose it. Im not sure how to do a crowd fund but PM with any ideas. This is BC we could probably do it.
  14. Brand new to me Squier as per title. Never been gigged. I got this from Guitar Guitar in December 2022. Never left the house. This is a killer single coil jazz bass. I know my jazz basses, ive owned 30 plus. and this is This is a good un. The action is as low as i can get it. Great growl when you dig in with no fret buzz. Ive always set up my jazz basses this way. There is something about these pickups that sound incredible..No other jazz bass ive owned sounds like it..Your welcome to come and play it through my Aguilar /Eden rig. .Comes in original box. Im in need of a 5 string. Comes with original gold PG. 9.2 pounds. Gold pick guard available. Just to add there is no gap between the PG and the bell plate. Trades. Sire 5 string Others 5s maybe welcome.
  15. Me personally I couldn't give a monkeys. 17mm to 19/20mm. just adapt to it. Doesn't take long. Cant do it. bollocks your just lazy. Too many bass players saying they cant do this they cant do that about the smallest differences on string spacing. Oh I need a high mass bridge blah blah. Grow a pair and just make music. I hate to say it but someone like Jaco Pastorius or James Jamerson would laugh at this
  16. its millimeters. good lord anyone would think you were climbing Mount Everest. with respect.
