1. I've spoken with Jon Shuker and he quoted me £300 to 350 to do the body and headstock. I don't really want a car sprayer to do it to be honest. He said he will spray with a polyester bass coat. Rub down many times, or flatenned as he said . Polished, then add a polyurethane top gloss. Then let it cure. And then polished again. It's gonna cost me double but I think I'm in good hands.
2.
I prefer the basic MXR octave pedal to the Deluxe. As for compression, it really depends what you want it to do. Are you looking to control dynamics, fatten up your sound or effect other pedals in the chain, or a bit of everything?
Control dynamics. I don't want to squeeze the sound too much. I just to gain what a good compressor does. Even out everything.

4. Im hoping if havent posted twice. They are fantastic. !! I'm aware Uriah Duffy has played with them. http://youtu.be/-T5taMs0niA
5. The electro sounds a bit sythy to my ears. The MXR doesn't Well to my ears anyways. http://youtu.be/mxQRMoMv_5s
6. I've heard the hype, I've heard alot of octave pedals have tracking issues. I'm in the market for both of these pedals. I'm thinking about getting the MXR bass octave deluxe. Does anyone own one.? What do you think. I play 5 string. I'm really not sure about compression pedal ideas. I've heard good reviews about the Aguilar TLC. I'm aware the way compression works. I need a good comp pedal to extend the length and breadth of tone. More importantly I would like to adjust it to my liking. Any other thoughts/ideas.?
7. Second hand Squire vintage without doubt. They are good standard but put some Dmarzio ultra jazz pickups in it and your more than sorted.
8. Even hum cancelers can produce hum. Depending on surroundings non shielded pups/ cavities etc.
9. Yes just a clear coat of maybe poly. I know poly is really tough and you can get it to a really high gloss. I'm aware there is alot of spray buff, spray buff and many coats.
10. This is the bass. I want a clear gloss on the body and headstock.
11. Is it unfair to stay away from Fender B strings. I've yet to play a good one.
12.
Playing the same bass, but all sounding different. Doesn't that mean that a lot of a musicians sound is indeed in the fingers ? Otherwise everyone who plays a Fender Jazz bass through an SWR amp would all would sound like Marcus Miller, but they don't. Next time you're with another bassist, give hi your bass and have him play it, see if he sounds like you.
no my point is they sound different because of there tone. Of course it's an amalgamation of the 2. But those 2 combined are there sound.I'm talking about a specific tone and electronic bass choices in preamp bass etc.
13. Fantastic Ernie Mckown on bass. Great band. Loved his playing with Galliano. This record has such a great groove in part to Ernie,s great bass. You gotta love this guys playing. http://youtu.be/cRRd52CSkXc
14.
I think a lot is down to technique. Stanley Clarke uses an Alembic. Marcus a jazz bass with stainless steel strings.Does he sound any different using his new bass and Dunlop strings than with his fender and DR strings ? Victor Wooten a Fodera with nickel strings. so different basses and strings, the common factor is they have amazing technique.
I just don't buy this " it's all in there fingers thing". If thats the case all the brilliant bassists in the world would be playing the same bass.Of course they have there own style.but Individual tone is down to electronics. I think there is alot of confusion between how a certain artist plays, and/or the tone they get. Marcus Miller might sound like Marcus on a Hofner or a Ricky because of his style, and the way he plays. but he's not going to have that sound
15. Fender pickups usually have removable casings. Exposing the windings. Resin filled pickups says to me they are split coils and hum cancelers.or single coil hum canceled.
16. Yes but do they know how to work with wood.
17. This is just wow. Love it type bump
18. I'm wanting to put a high gloss on a bass. I have spoken to a guy who sprays cars.Snow Boards, etc. He said he could do it. He's a master at doing this type of stuff. BUT.I'm aware the instrument has a lot of pores and grain in it so many coats of gloss will need to be aplied. Do you think it's worth going to a guitar specific sprayer.? He wants £130 to do the body and headstock. Will a specific guitar sprayer cost more.?
19. You know the feeling that you have a tone in your head but you don't know how to get it. The bartolinis are great but I'm missing that preamp that gives me the funky growl. I guess I'm talking Marcus Ish but more of a gospel tone.
20. Im no tech person but its really quite easy to install new pickups. Just a good soldering iron and a bit of common sense. oh and you tube . This bass was originally a great bass, when it comes down to construction. Had Delano single coils, which weren't my favourite. Now it is just superb. Its articulate with the Delano pre, with a fantastic low end from the Bart's. I will be changing out the Delano. its way to clean for me. Im thinking of maybe a Bartolini 3 band. Or an East. I don't particularly want a Marcus tone as I think a lot of it comes from the 70's spacing anyways, and this bass hasn't got that. I just want a fat, punchy, growly tone. Ok that sounds like a Marcus tone. he he. Im half way there with the Barts and the DR fat beams. I just need a different preamp Its fabulous to play. The neck reminds me of the Lakland 5502. The instrument is light which I dig. All in all these instruments are out there. Its not my favourite jazz bass ever. That goes to the Sei, but its pretty close, seeing as the Sei is over twice the price new. This is a keeper, just fabulous instruments are these Maruszczyk's
21. The neck on these are just the best ever of any jazz bass every made. No doubt.
22. I wonder if they changed the windings at some point.?
23. As soon as you plug your lead into an active bass the preamp is getting a signal. Even if it's not plugged into the amp. I unplug and a cheap battery will last me 2 months depending how much I practice. Leaving a lead in will kill a 9 volt in under a week.
