Bar none, i think this record is just…. The sentiment, the groove the soul, his voice, his harmonies. easily my favourite. Little details like "USER"'s there are a few of those little vocal details that make it such special record. "NO DONT MATTER" I'm sure you know this record but WOW what a record.
sorry but there wasnt a Lemmy thread or a Jimmy Bain or a Chris Squire thread maybe its just me then that doesnt see the need to all of a sudden gush all over a tragic death?
Its a possibility that although they were all great musicians, they didn't have the impact musically on peoples lives, that Prince had.
I love all the old stuff but 'Chelsea Rodgers' is one of the newer ones I keep going back to. Such a great track!
Fantastic. !!
+1. It's often what doesn't get played that counts, so important for good groove and feel. Prince was master of space and time...
you could go on and on about playing bass. i think honesty, a moral compass, that many people don't think has got anything to do with bass or music but it so has. i think having those qualities and then having talent on top ., thats everything for me, timing is the standard that everyone should live by. But playing music right is a lot deeper that just picking up an instrument and playing. i just wish i could play with a band like Prince's.

like Lowdown said. its just fabulous. i played it on Wifes birthday and she's not into Prince . even she loved this fabulous record. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XpHxGKo10h8

The Sign of the Times. Its a beautiful record, the lyrics are fabulously put together with his sparse guitar playing. i learned from his records its ok to leave space in a record, anticipation is great In music. i always thought the best music is not what you hear., its what you don't hear.

I do not want to this thread to be a negative one. its great to have opinions , positive or negative about this guy. but i would perfer it, if was more on the positive side. just thought i would nip it in the bud.
Nope not got one, not a fan and cant remember a similar thread for others that have sadly passed away, so why him?
Becuase Terry Wogan wasn't a musician so i thought i would choose this bloke.

He's playing in Evesham. I've never heard of him.? His name rings a bell, didn't he play with Joe Bonnamassa.?

Im aware that he had musical/money/privacy issues . With out wanting to be disrespectful there are a huge amount of Prince records now available on You Tube. which is great for me, because i will still buy his albums irrespective of what i listen to on YT. i think sometimes he underestimated his audience in that way. but i guess he had evidence to prove me otherwise. These are my favourites. The greatest record that had no bass on it. Its just epic, the harmonies, the arrangement. off the wall good. Hi falsetto vocals!!! and his range that he was capable of, His dancing with that woman is just so incredibly good. There is not a lot i can say about this. apart from its just incredible.. His music moves me and makes me tap my foot more than most. whats yours

Im not quite sure what to say. My favourite musician of all time and in my opinion the best of the 20th century is gone, I'm speechless. !!!!!!! that has really taken me aback. !! Its the only time the death of a musician, i didn't know has upset me.
I tried a set once on my old Yamaha TRB4. I was distinctly underwhelmed! Died fast too. :\
Hey thats cool you didn't dig them, but DR's going dull fast.?? i very much doubt that, maybe a bad set. Imo they are the best strings in the world.t. Thats like saying Roger Sadowsky's single coil jazz pups went flat. I'm only kidding of course because its my birthday and I've enough lager to sink many battle ships from ww1and 2 -
They are fricking superb. surely its not just me who think DR strings are just something else. I put a set on my Jazz bass and they are just WOW. its like a new bass. Yes, there expensive but my word they are fantastic strings. These i think, are the best Electric bass strings ever made. just my op. but i think there there the best string made in the world today.i don't say that lightly. there expensive but they are just fab bass strings

Music back in the 60'70's was such more harder to learn.
-
We all know about Bernard Edward's and Nile Rodger's.. not many know about there playing on this album. of course its EPIC bass playing. why wouldn't it be. Nile's production and guitar playing is just as good. lets not forget Fonzi. an incredible musician in his own right. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=an0cHg51De0 the bass playing is stand out though.
-
i have no problem paying 50 squid for DR's. no I'm not rich, or well paid. But they are worth it. The Marcus Miller sigs will last you for a long long time. and IMO are easily the best strings for an electric bass for sale. DR's i think generally are the best strings on sale for bass. Just don't buy Rotosounds. IMO they are over priced junk.

Sometimes your hear music on the radio etc and then you notice the bass playing. i heard this record from TLC and was wowed by Mr Jefferson.its not obviously stand out amazing bass playing but thats whats great about it imo, it so fits the music, His note choices around those chords.!, He is so musica imo. Bass players like this just blow me away.i dig the envelope filter he's got going on in parts of his playing. Sometime the best bass playing is the bass playing you don't notice. A really good quality Wings black, Bass gig bag and a Genuine Fender Back pickup cover, that was from a 1970 Custom shop Jazz bass. The gig bag is a really padded well and is quality although was a bit dusty. it is in the washing machine now, so will be like new. pick up please.
-
just my OP but a Jazz bass especially a 70's jazz doesn't sound like a 70's jazz without steel round wounds . but then again I'm not a fan of the sound of flats on a bass in any music.dont like DB either I do prefer the highs and low mid bass punch and crispness to a bass tone. Flats just sound dull to me.but WTF do i know.

I'm sorry if anyone has one, and maybe i just played a bad one, which is possible and my playing was sh*t which is also possible, but this is when signature basses go wrong. It was a horrible instrument. The frets were hanging off the board, the strings were awful. massive gauge for a 4 string, the action was like i was playing a banana. The pickups sounded like i was playing cat gut strings through a crap radio. it was god awful this particular Flea bass. The Modulus counterpart is too graphite hifi for me, but is quite EPIC to play.
