1. 17 years I've been playing and Im 40 years old and still I'm not that lazy.
2. Wow David. Where do you get them from.!!!??? Am i right in saying that is a Fender Custom Shop 1975 RI Jazz Bass in Dakota Red. Never ever seen one before. especially in that colour with a matching headstock. any pics of the back of the headstock .? i will take my offer back i can't afford it.
3. Surely you play what the music needs you to play.
4.
Great band, love all the albums (except Cupids In Fashion!). They all just get better the more you live with them. The track, 'Watcha Gonna Do For Me?' was recorded by AWB first, and is actually a Hamish Stuart co - write. Good call, it's a corker.
Am i wrong Spongebob.? it won't be the first time.
5. AWB Jazz Funk at its best. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QXKLLzPDIfo
6. This is so great. There cover of Chaka Khan's "Watcha Gonna Do for Me". a laid back cover. More fantastic subtle bass playing. They are soul they are funk.
7.
Alan Gorrie playing a 5-string with the " Live from Daryl's House " house band ; ( when he points to his head he is indicating to the rest of the band that the tune goes back to the " head " ie top of the chart )
That is great. i love Daryl's house. Ceelo and Daryl do a great Hall and Oats live session.
8. I would like to do a short review of this instrument. Maruszczyk Elwood 5a Jazz bass. Adrian is German i believe. But the instruments are built in Poland. Im sure a few know these are value for money big time. First impressions are very good. Ive had a few great basses through my hands ike Sei's, STR's Sadowsky's, Suhr's Modulus,s or Moduly. as alan partridge might like to say. This instrument on first look is top notch. The first thing i look for is the neck pocket. There is a very small gap on the top of the neck to the body, I'm talking point 5 of a mm but I'm a stickler. The second thing i look for is frets. Impeccable.! this is a very well made fret board. Lovely maple 1/4 sawn i believe. The neck is just superb. My last bass was a Lakland 55-02 and they are known for there great 5 string necks, this is as good if not better, i haven't played it enough to work out the difference, I'm not a fan of the Fender 5 string necks, way to chunky. this bass has a great matt finish on the neck and is very much like a 55-02/SR5 The body is ash with a cherry translusent matt finish. The weight is great. i can weigh it but its not heavy at all. Very comfortable. I have a Sadowsky strap (the best strap ever imo) on it. Im not sure what the bridge is too be honest. Its Maple Maple Ash, with Delano single coils. I was told the preamp was a Glockenklang. But i have had the preamp out and its actually a Delano 2 band. I have edited this post, because after a few times playing the bass the Delano (personally) is not doing it for me. For me its way to hifi, It has a huge bottom end but its doesn't sound like a proper jazz bass. The Delano Sonar 2 band is too transparent also, coupled with the pickups, its a little too clean sounding. There isn't a lot of Jazz bass grunt or growl. Very clean sounding Jazz bass. I will be changing the preamp and the pickups to either Bartolini, Or Sadowsky. Apart from the Delano, this is quite an incredible bass. Im not quite sure what category of bass to put it into. If you were to to see and play the instrument without knowing the price, you would think it was in the £2000 + catagory . its that good. Would i play this over my old Sei, (for personal reasons), No, its not that good but do i prefer it over my old Sadowsky Metro.. Yes. but not the preamp. These basses are amazing imo. When you think of the price brand new, Adrian has Roger Sadowsky and a lot of luthiers on there back foot. i didnt want to say its all incredible amazing,as I'm not a fan of Delano but this is not about the feel of the bass. Its about my personal tone preference. Im quite amazed Adrian makes instruments like these for the price he sells them for. Im guessing the prices will go up for sure.
9. Each to there own of course. but relic'ing doesn't quite sit right with me.
10. What are the prices of second hand TH500's and TH350's.?
11. This is just a great soul/funk record. gotta love his bass playing also, nothing flashy, just simply musically great groove playing
12.
Also a big fan and have seen them loads. After some gigs in smaller venues the band pile will into the bar afterwards and have a couple of drinks and are very approachable, chatting to punters etc. What i like is that they are very able musicians but don't get caught up in the posing and thrusting they just deliver great songs.
Excellent.!!
13. I have an Aguilar AG500 single channel. I was thinking of selling it to fund a new bass, but i then got a bass i love. But. i wondered about getting a smaller amp like an Aguilar TH 350. I have not a clue about amp prices. Sorry I'm not trying to advertise my amp before you get arsey admin. Just wondered if its a sought after amp.?
14. One of the best 5 strings ever made in my opinion. Especially with a maple fret board, adds a certain zing to the Humbucker tone. Lovely bass. good luck with the sale.
15. Im not a huge hardcore funk fan, Tis possibly why i love this band. There mix of soul/funk/groove is perfect for me. I can listen to an AWB's album all the way through and not get bored. There not Tower of Power but also, they aint Earth Wind and Fire. They are Scottish. The second record is so ripped by a certain gangster rap band called NWA. There are soooooo many fantastic records from these guys. They my bread and butter.
16. Imo. 13 + minutes of magic. just great music. Production from the fantastic Trevor Horn. I can see Grace Jones's Slave to the Rhythm, in it. Some great bass playing also.
17. This bass in now gone. Thanks for the interest.
18. When i saw your post and Atelier Z basses i knew Francis was in it.
19. Maruszczyk Elwood 5 inbound. Very excited.!!!!!!!! Glock 2 band with Delano Jazz pickups. Thanks Thomas.
20. A StingRay 5. The best narrow necked 5 string in the world available imo. Hugely comfortable.
21. With the Bartolini set up. Now that is a classic USA Lakland.
