2.
Love Slip Upon Ya is a killer tune from that LP too.... https://www.youtube....h?v=1fPTewD_b5w
that is slick.!
3. i guess when you get famous you are susceptible to delusion. depending on your character. i don't think Beyonce is awful, by any stretch of the imagination though. she's no Anita Baker or various other soul singers. there's too much money involved that can ruin modern talent. imo. ahhhh. thats better. she makes me think. Beyonce doesn't. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9hVp47f5YZg
4. Man this guy imo is just up there with theeee best drummers who have ever lived. Buddy Rich. a short tempered master of rhythm. his drumming is just EPIC. this vid just says it all. his timing is just perfect, his touch is just perfect.when he's slows the tempo and then speeds it up again.. his drumming is nothing short of beautiful imo. 5.
My teacher gave me this track to illustrate exactly the point you are making. Don't fill the gaps with unnecessary notes - just be ready for the busy bit in the middle.
hes a good teacher. i think you can apply this view of bass playing with lots of genres.
6. I've always thought there is more music in the space you leave between music, than the music you could fill it with. this is just magnificent funk music imo. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IydYLIsT9LA
7. I've always thought there is more music in the space you leave between music, than the music you could fill it with. its all about anticipation. thats what i love about certain aspects of funk. this is just magnificent funk music imo. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cXEK2ufq2lw&list=FLzVUqeF1SLjxa78y2gd03dQ&index=1
8. erm. if he didn't open his shirt and have sunglasses on i would say he's great. so i minus 1 point for ego. .. i still give him 89%. great playing all the same. just leave mr twat at home. WTF is toppy.?
9. just.. AWSOME. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cXEK2ufq2lw
10. i did say i had gone off Fender, but :othat is stunning.. !!!
11.
I don't know the internal layout of the AG500, but its possible that the input socket is surface mounted to the preamp circuit board. Over time, the action of plugging in and unplugging leads could have caused a crack in one of the solder joints causing the scratchiness and crackling. Sounds like you need to visit your friendly local amp tech.
ok thanks JPJ. i will look into it.
12. adam nitti also rocks on this.
13.
Hmm, I don't like a lacquered neck me... probably because I sweat like a sweaty thing at gigs and find that my fretting hand is seriously hampered by what quickly becomes a sticky neck - even if it's not at any other time... but my Spector Euro is a painted finish and that's fine. Otherwise it's out with the Scotchbrite pad - it will take off enough of the finish to solve the problem, but can be got back up to a shine if necessary with the minimum of fuss.
i agree i really can't play fast or comfortably with a lacquered neck and i don't even sweat a lot.. just feels like its holding me up. sorry about the sanding Jose. i like to feel the wood.
14. yep stupid me.. I've just tried a different lead and its the same. i should add it distorted quite badly on saturday night while playing live.
15. i recently acquired a 55-02. just wondering from the vast experience on this forum, your experiences of how both basses compare. apart from the obvious pickup arrangement. . I'm thinking the later plek'd basses but any thoughts are welcome. i know some JO5's can be heavy, but i was wondering how the neck compares, scale length etc. does the JO5 have a preamp.?. any thoughts generally. thanks.
16. Seems i have a scratching noise coming from the input on my Aguilar when i move the lead or spin the jack.. i know close to zero about amp tech. any ideas what this might be. is it an easy fix.. i have a repair guy in mind but don't want to go to him if i don't need.. Or could it be my lead i ask myself.?
17.
Do I Do is such a brilliant bassline. Here's another favourite, Boogie On Reggae Woman... Transcribed in Bass Player mag December 2007 by Bryan Beller, who describes it as the most challenging bassline ever transcribed in the mag to date.
excellent.!! a joy to listen to.. i wonder if he used Tonto.? this was created for him in the late 70's
18.
When i listen to these it makes me feel as tho I'm wasting my time .
i used to think that, then i thought i enjoy what i do. i bet even Stevie Wonder thinks he's not as good as he could be. the eternal musicians conundrum.
19.
Add to that he most likely can play the chords, the baseline and sing it live as good as the recording all at once
well with my connections. I've heard he recorded this whole song while playing this bass line, i have my doubts to be honest. i just sounds to seamless sound wise.. no doubt he could prob do it, but not with that much improvisation.
20. very very reminiscent of a certain european youtube sensation, but a good remix of this Micheal Jackson classic all the same. the guy on that Nord is just mind bendingly good at 2.30. actually everything is great on this..
21.
It's worth coming in here just to see what you post Bubinga. Beautiful. Here's another - https://www.youtube....h?v=0ItPnIG6abg
love it.. great album. his voice is just… thanks man. nothing to do with his bass lines. but just an excuse to post the full 9.30 minutes of this magic. Nate Watts's bassline is just out there. I've heard his bassline isolated with just the drums and its so beautifully played. if there was ever an epic song, this is it, imo. when i first heard this it just blew me away.
22. absolutely incredible synth bass line by Stevie imo.. ok its not on the electric bass, but a bass line is a bass line. the changing between chords are fantastic. and his voice is just incredible. this is not an easy bassline to play on a 4 string.
23. My current and only (decent) amp I've ever owned Aguilar 500 with a 212. as soon as i heard it i loved it. it just sounds so good with a Lakland 55-02 and most basses I've owned. This amp was actually run over 3 years ago by a car.literally ran all the way over it, it totally trashed the bag, (and yes it was just a bag) but the amp, bar a few scratches, has been working perfectly ever since. incredible.!!. i can part with basses, but i would never ever part with my Aguilar.
24.
Just an observation, there being some very nice stuff here - but most of it is 20+ years old. I relate to all of it, being a soul 'n' reggae freak; but I'm old- what happens with those that follow us on, where is it going, and with whom? I was lucky to be starting with Bowie, Clapton, Chris Squire, Peter Green, Brian Auger, Jon Hiseman, Matt Ross, and many other fine (and forgotten) heroes - I worry that I'm not seeing this calibre of talent emerging today - somebody please tell me I'm wrong!
im a bit confused you would use those names in a thread called Funk and Groove.? any ways the funk is alive and well. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R0H4mL3OW-4
25. its just not as easy to listen to as Brown Sugar and not as Hip Hop like Voodoo., but man is it as good. the music is so interesting from song to song, but it is a slow burner. i was waiting to see what he did next for a long time. well it was 14 years. , it didn't hit me at first, just a few listens and there it is. not every song blows me away, but albums like that are rare. this record is just superb. there is so much going on. his voice and piano playing. he's one of the greats imo,. and Pinos playing is just super cool.
