its probably the saddest song I've ever heard. always gets me. A modern classical masterpiece imo. Wojciech Kilar. Love Remembered from Bram Stoker's Dracula. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xop_FRJUOPQ

for anyone who might be interested, here is Ski Oakenfold, ( Incognito) deconstructing Rod Tempertons masterpiece. i find it fascinating.
There's a great reissue of Thriller containing interviews with Rod. He's someone who should be more celebrated than he is.
i agree he's very unknown to a lot of people. but produced/played on some of the greatest music ever written. but i guess you could say that for a lot of the great musician/producers. apart from quincy jones i guess. when people think Micheal Jackson Thriller, Rod Temperton is not a name that springs to mind..

Wow, some of the best funk I've ever heard. Rod and Johnnie Wilder were a funk force. you can really hear Rod Temperton's influence on this record, with the strings and general musicality. he just seems to add that something to a record. i guess thats why Thriller sounds so good. its what i call (in my musical vocabulary) classy sh*t.
Does anyone know what this is? It was my first ever bass, and I've still got it to remember how truly, shockingly, humiliatingly bad a bass can be. I haven't changed anything on it, partially because I don't like having to acknowledge it exists. The guy who had it before me described it as 'a bit tatty' and I paid £20 for it. Real money. It's just awful in every way. Apocalyptically so. I can go in to detail about how it looks and sounds, but I'll only do so by request because it'll just be upsetting. Here are some shots of this abomination. I'd say 'I'll let the pictures speak for themselves', but if these pictures could speak they'd probably just scream swear words until you looked away in disgust and vitriolic anger. Here we go: I'm sorry you had to see that. Seriously though, what is this thing? 1980s department store catalogue? Poorly made school project? North Korea's latest attempt to bring down the West? Any knowledge would be great!
is that the new Fender for 2015.? kidding of course.

I think Leo would turn in his grave.
I mean... seriously, Fender? This looked dated when you did it for Victor Bailey ten years ago. Now it just looks like an anachronism. Honestly, they're losing the plot.
that body wood matching is odd. is that a 2 piece body that is cut unequally.?
To me, his 'widdly bits' (technical term...) at 1:42 and 1:48 don't fall back into the 'pocket'. After his chromatic run down at 1:56, though, he's back 'on it', but the singer comes in half a bar too early. The drummer should know what went on that day, and should have 'locked it down'. What does the drummer think happened..?
there is something not right there, and with all respect its the bassists timing maybe. and i think the singer is following his lead.

Dimarzio Ultra Jazz, Sadowsky Single coils, lindy Fralins.? they will all sound great depending on your budget.? Wizards are great too. a lot cheaper also. your budget is the question. i like Nordstrand single coils.
Fanned afficionado diehard?
aficionado. a person who is very knowledgeable and enthusiastic, about an activity, subject, or pastime. other words…. authority, connoisseur, specialist. -
no doubt. so atmospheric. and so perfect, for the scene that it comes from. great disjointed jazzfunk that is so well played and written. its all in the build up. a musical score genius of the era is Lalo Schifrin imo.

This is a specific song that at first i couldn't work out why with my timing, where i was going wrong.. but having listened to it properly, i think the bassist by accident or meant to do it, is playing behind the beat then playing on the beat. but loosing his way. its in 4/4 time obviously. then at 1.35 the solo starts.. if you count 1234 all the way until the singing starts, its just off., i know him and he's my predecessor, but i just can't quite work out what he's doing. i get the feeling that he's in a solo and lost time slightly and the singer is just waiting for the bass line. ? what do you think.? not knocking his playing was just interested to hear what others think. its at 1.35. like i said count the 4 bar beat until he starts singing.
I'd like to think that! But there are plenty of examples from other consumer products that suggest otherwise. Here's one from the world of car manufacture, where stuff is generally made to precise specifications by robots... http://www.theguardi...-cars-worldwide It only takes one 'bug' in the system for problems to become amplified in mass production runs. The % of products with errors might be no different to that of a smaller manufacturer, but the quantity will be greater because of the greater number of items being produced. We notice this in the products we source at work. Smaller manufacturers tend to produce less faulty stuff by volume in comparison to larger firms - partly due to percentages, but also I think because it's easier to apply quality control if you're making less 'stuff'. But it also tends to mean you have smaller profit margins and need to charge more But whatever. The P-bass I own is a beauty, so I have no complaints about Fender.
you explained it better than i did.

at there London driven prices i doubt it.
0.1 percent of 10000 instruments is 10 0.1 percent of 1000 instruments is 1 If a shop had 1 brand X bass and 10 Fenders you could be unlucky enough for all 11 basses to be rubbish
I'm really not clever enough to work out what you just posted then Pete..
Nothing to do with the detail, all down to consistency. Maybe you would make a sh*t guitar, but you would make every guitar as sh*t as each other, it would become a commodity item.
sure but consistency doesn't always mean quality. that was Skol303's point
-
that makes no sense. The more you make the more uniform they should be. They produce a fraction of the number of normal consumer items, all of which would be expected to have much higher quality control and be more consistent.
to be honest, and with respect this makes no sense to me. the more you make of something the more detail and quality gets lost. making an instrument 1000000 times, is bound to have consequences on quality with a huge manufacturing process like Fender has.. can they keep a track of every machine, jig, employee that is making there instruments.? Martin Peterson of Sei on the other hand, has total control over what he makes. just an extreme example.
Sorry, reread my post and I really didn't mean to be quite so much of a dick/twat/knob (delete as applicable) Apologies :-*>
Ditto. Absolutely no problem buddy.

I'm really not knocking other peoples instruments. I just don't seem to have found the Fender I really wanted to play.
-
I'm sure it is Goucho that is renowned for many session players, playing on it.? Correct,?
I think that like in the musicman thread you seem to be having a bit of a stir, at least in this thread you've elaborated rather than starting a fire and wandering off though. Once again with the fanboy stuff though, very easy way to dismiss others.
I certainly do not stir anything mate. I've got better things to do. Def not my intention. If I don't get back to a topic I've posted, it's because I either don't get time, or I have forgotten I posted it. Also really don't take forums that seriously. I appologise for the fan boy comment.
