A wide range of tones, is that a good thing?
Sounds to me like you're going in the right direction with your gear. When I was younger I was a busy player and didn't worry much about the detail of my sound. Loud and bassy was good enough. Then I had a lay off and when I came back I found my playing had evolved/grown up into a "less is more" approach, and when you're playing fewer notes, the better they are, the better your playing will sound. IMO, to sound your best the bass, amp and cab must have a synergy so that all parts of the signal chain compliment each other. Each part builds on the other parts. I set the volume and do one brief EQ (usually just setting the bass control) at the start of the gig and usually never touch the controls again. After the first gig with my Lull, I asked the guitarist (a very good player) what he thought of the new bass. I was hoping he'd tell me how much better it sounded. All he said was, "It was very good but it sounded like you." It took me awhile to work out that he was paying me a compliment. Enough waffle. Always play the best gear you can, and your playing will shine through.
i really don't get this Synergy thing. If you have decent gear and you play well people are gonna like it.. never understood the over thought that is put into your signal chain.? whats all that about.. a good sound is great but over thinking it can get obsessive.. not calling you obsessive by the way Chris. i just think too much thought can be put into gear, and your tone down to the slightest nuance i know a guy who has a £90 guitar lead.. apparently his signal is superb, extreme example i know but…. i feel like cutting it in half and asking how is Synergy is. there is a reason why i don't frequent the gear section. -
ha ha. love a bit of irelivant humour.

what particular Sadowsky instrument was it.? maybe the Sadowsky is different because of the instruments your currently using. maybe they are a little heavier on the neck.. I've always found Sadowsky instruments to be very well balanced.. like i say its what your used to playing. i had an amazing SR5 but it was heavy, but then compared to my old RV5, the Sadowsky was almost too light.
Isn't Incognito like your favourite band? You're always talking about them, how can it be something different for you?
is there a reason why i should know every Incognito record's bass line.? i appreciate them hugely but there not a favourite band. yes its bluntly put and sounds like your calling me out on my playing ThisNameisTaken.? only joking.. its a genuine post about a song i hadn't learned yet, that is quite challenging.. maybe you missed my point. ?
This used to be mine (minus the East pre-amp), and I can only say that a: Andy is a great guy to deal with, and b: I did a shed loads of gigs, touring and recording with this bass (and case) for about 5 years, and she never once let me down. I loved the feel of the neck on this, and would gladly have it back, but sadly don't really have the need for it anymore. Getting it past the Minister for Finance could be tricky, too... Good luck with the sale!
Thanks Simon..
THAT is the bass I've been after! I have two Japanese 75RI natural/maple: one with pearl blocks and white binding, and 60s spacing, and one with black blocks and binding and 70s spacing... and yours is the very combination I originally wanted! In fact, I'm about to put a J-Retro in one of them, just haven't decided which... so yours is perfect! I have a natural/maple Lakland 5502, in excellent condition, with a couple of pickguards (3-ply, a black one and a white one, only fitted with tape, so no holes in the body)... It's a very pretty grain ash body, but it's not a DeLuxe, so no quilted top. I have the Lakland hardcase too, although it's seen better days. It still works, of course, but it doesn't look too pretty. I would be VERY interested in a trade, if you would consider a natural 5502.
sorry Mcnach really only interested in the Deluxe model. fussy bugger aint i..

I'm only looking for a trade on this bass.. Fender 75 reissue non export jazz bass. new DR Fat beams, John East J retro preamp. comes with a SKB hard case, 2 piece ash body, maple neck blocked and bound. Dunlop strap locks. great condition, but for a few dings on the headstock. super tight neck pocket. The tone is just sublime. .very clean sounding instrument. for single coils the pickups are very quiet.. I've recorded with it and its silent.. its what you can expect from a Fender MIJ 75 jazz bass with a j retro. it has 70's spacing pickups only made for non export instruments. very rare for an MIJ.. I'm interested in Lakland 55'deluxes, JO's, other jazz basses 4 or 5 string..prefer maple neck, but would like see whats out there. thanks for looking

haven't learned to play a song for ages.. then i learn to play this, and it really highlight's flaws in my technique… naturally i tend to stick to licks/runs bass lines I'm comfortable with. I'm sure I'm not not alone there.. its a real eye opener when your fingers are forced to do something different.. a very healthy thing to do though, if its not easy its got to be good imo.. as long as its not painful of course. so important to listen to and learn bass lines to all sorts of music.. this track is not the easiest, never seen the point in playing a bass line exactly the same because some players nuances are there own.. as long as the structure is there ..but it does make you appreciate Randy Taylor's superb taste in his playing… does anyone push themselves to play stuff thats difficult..
