1. interesting info. I'm sure its correct, but i do wonder why he would record on a de tuned 4 string.? just interested.
2.
Photos would be good, but Japanese 62 re issues had that earthing strip. Not uncommon basses but good. Should also have a strap pin on back of headstock. Serial number and crafted or made in Japan should be on back of neck, just above where it meets the body. There is a Fender dater site as well, just google it. Cheers, Karl.
only the AVRI's have the strap button on the headstock, unless its a non export. and it won't be Crafted in Japan. it will prob say Made in Japan. it will possibly be made of Basswood, or Alder on the non export model. i have seen so many of these and they are good. what colour is it.?
3. i should have named myself Cocobolo5. i could say I'm not into basses anymore and into the music., but that is just amazing. please stop. just my favourite wood if that were a 5 string.. erm….. i still couldn't afford it.
4. Ive listened to this live album a few times, and this record. and was blown away at his playing. it really is amazing. a bit of slap, but some EPIC finger style on a 5 string. .
5. slick stuff from the old school master's. EPMD. in my opinion these guys were the boys. they are still good now.

8.
One of my fave vocalists, been to see him too. Even like his Motown albums. Oh, just remembered when I went to see Steely Dan back in 1974, they had him in their touring band too.
really like his Motown albums, they are great. just sublime this really is. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dJe1iUuAW4M
9. gotta love this. got to be the most distinctive voice's i know. what my mum and dad used to listen to. always had an impact on the funk/blues and soul that came after. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H_GmuIHL_EM
10.
Sounded too far ahead of the beat for me and generally not sweetly timed. It might have been that the backing was so quiet. It's just a perception thing though, clearly for most it sounds fine. I'm not keen on his tone either
i can't say that I'm overly keen either on the tone, but for the song, i think its necessary. as for timing, the only thing i can think of, is its a P bass, and has a fatter spread of note, so is maybe not as focussed as maybe a Jazz. that and maybe the recording.? I'm only guessing to be honest. and I'm not one for telling people what they can hear. different ears and all that.
11.
At first I found his timing too frantic and it made me feel anxious, but he settles in really nicely in the second half. That does sound like an octave doesn't it.
im interested to know your thought's on why you find his timing too frantic, at the start Nige..? not knocking your opinion buddy, but do you know something about good timing that i don't ? am i missing something
12. those vids are so cool.

18. i think this is fabulous.!!!!! a lot of people don't dig Andrew's bass playing, as being too busy. i dig him. love the synth/keys playing also on I Feel for You. great stuff from The North Sea jazz fest.. 14 minutes of Chaka magic.
19. sorry to be the Rotosound negative guy, but i really don't like them. i think they are cheap, and don't last very long.lots of hype, but nothing quality about any string they have ever made. I'm not going to bang on about my favourite string. ok DR's. they last forever, and they sound awesome. yes they are expensive, but they are so worth it, no matter your preference.
20. sorry i love some Alembics and i love the Rouge. but i just don't get it price wise. I'm all for great instrument manufacturer's. but some maker's do over charge, because of there name, and rep. as subjective as it is. i bet John Shuker, or Martin Peterson could make, and does make a bass, that is in equal quality to any Alembic. look at the price difference. don't get me wrong Alembic's Fodera's are fantastic instrument's but they are overpriced. i would put any lower priced instrument by Sei next to any high end Fodera, and you show me the difference in quality.
21.
If that's your honest opinion, I'd suggest simply not giving him extra air-time.
bad post deleted.
22. that guy is so good. 16th note master.
23. just don't get your wallet out dude.
24. im not experienced in the world of effects. but is he using an octave pedal of some kind in parts of this vid.? i do love the sound.
