3. For me the masters are the Ohio Players. i like my Funk straight up dirty funk with a soul edge. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o6E6TRMdfos
4. just like Risington's ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC post.! I think the lines, as to what funk is and what is not, can be blurred, not just by that awsome Delegation album, but also by these guys.
5.
Does it matter whether its played on the bass guitar or a keyboard? A good baseline is a good baseline irrespective of how it's been created.
i totally agree.
6. two of the funkiest modern soul tracks ive listened to. . http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MFUvGmAcnTI&list=FLzVUqeF1SLjxa78y2gd03dQ&index=307 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bbMPklMGHjo end of soul rant.

Anita Baker's backing singers. from there second album. if you love gospel/soul/bassplaying/jazz this stuff is off the wall good. there harmonies are so amazing.
8. i could Give you endless suggestion's, but i would be here all day. i could suggest a few that are my favourites. Meshel Ndegeocello. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NyS1MDwQAhc Anita Baker. apart from Rapture her best album. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V-5NnyD8lI4

10. i will always be a bass player, its what make me tick, but the Piano seems to be overtaking me somewhat.. I've seen this software from Trillion, that gives you superb bass sounds from a controller keyboard.i answer my own question really but i was wondering what you girls/guy's thought. would you give up the feel of the wood in your hands for some software that you can play else ware. this is presuming you can play the piano. here is what im waffling on about. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ce_nHCMkerM
11. what company sells this software.? sorry just got it.
12. you know your stuff dude. Paul T Williams is one of the greats. Not many people know Blueys first band. totally wrecking my own topic. Bluey side project from years ago. Randy H Taylor on the electric bass. its a wonderful album.
13. i do worry a little. you could say that you can't beat human touch, but Richard seems to cope. George Duke (RIP) plays it to the max. ive got to be honest i dont want to think im constrained to the layout of the bass. its a great thing when you think about baselines out of context. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l1toLihZkDs
14. i thought there is no way you can play a bass line like that, with all the nuances that he plays on a keyboard. hes a very clever guy
15. its not an electric bass. its Richard Bull playing the bass line on a keyboard.
16. Adore the bass playing on this track. i hope i havent posted this before. anyways, what is it.? sounds like a Yamaha.? jazz bass.?
17. thankyou for that dude, fascinating . really enjoyed that. got to be honest Bluey is my musical idol. a guy that cant read music, has that much vision. and hes written so much incredible music. i met him once and you would think that he didnt have alot of time. he out talked me. talking to him was like talking to someone you have known for years.
18. absolute amazing musician. this music is why i love soul/funk/jazz so much. his overdub harmonies are just fabulous. this guy could sing the phone book and i would love it. saw him once with Incognito at the Jazz Cafe, and his piano playing and scatting was just off the wall. all ecompassing musical genius imo. imo fantastic bass playing.
19. ive never played one of these but from what ive heard they are amazing.
20. sorry off topic. but anyone remember Jeff Young's Big Beat show on the now sh*te Radio 1. Radio 1 was a great station back then. maybe im getting old.. no its sh*t. classics like this. i remember when soul to soul first broke out on this very show. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2JeXSESPM4Y
21. Sorry BF, i skipped a bit but Music of my Mind is superb.SuperWoman is a masterpiece. Stevie really found his stride when he wrote that one. Does Cecil play on that.?
22.
I first heard this when DJ Dave Simmonds played this on his Radio 1 Soul Show on it's release. He late went on to host a soul show on Radio London throughout the 70s. In those days (early 70s) you could only track down the latest soul releases by reading the music press every week, from DJs who specialized in soul music, by word of mouth or from specialist music shops that we frequented. Simmonds was one of the first (maybe THE first) to bring a lot of this music to a national audience. This is great.
love it BF.
23. been a Rae and Christian lover for many a year, very clever UK musicians. really ground breaking R&C imo.. , when they get this dude singing. im so there. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=INwaF8MwfVQ
24. No doubt this is the slickest soul funk I've ever heard. Frank is a real master imo. incredible piano player. i need this music when the bird is in the oven. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bbMPklMGHjo
