2.
The reason why I remember your previous posts is because they always seemed very thoughtful and reflective. If you started a topic then I would inevitably read it because I knew it would contain some interesting observation or point of view. Your taste in music is excellent and you've posted videos of many artists I'd never heard of I thank you for that. I'd always assumed you were one of the cool guys on Basschat. I can only assume I got you on a bad day. No offence intended.
thankyou for the compliments my friend, and yes you did catch me on a bad day, im sorry for my obtuse words.
3.
Go GB Andy you know it makes sense!! More than happy for you to come over when I get my new one for a noodle! You can also try the old jazz and and Stingray that I have as you may opt for a 60's vintage jazz which would take care of your budget nicely!!
would love to come over and have a play Mark.. let me know when your free. i remember that GB from Aroundabout sound and it was very hifi.beautiful instrument though.
4. im very happy with my Aguilar amp and cab. got to be honest its the only amp set ive ever had, so not a huge amount of knowledge when it comes to amplification.
5.
Ha ha. I think you should go back and read all the stuff you've written in the past about why, although you've owned them in the past, you now realise expensive boutique basses aren't really worth the money. I think you should do something sensible with the money like buy a secondhand porche http://www.autotrade...porsche/boxster
he he .yeah ive posted some sh*t, i wanted a bit ofbass forum opinions, not some dick reminding me of something i posted when i was pissed. your a real nerd if you can remember my old posts.
6. My family is selling some land that is worth a huge amount of money. so being left some, prob coming up to christmas time.. so what did i think.. well GAS overtook me.. ive not bought an expensive bass guitar for years.. i prob have 4 grand to spend... im very curious about certain basses.. Xotic 5 string jazz basses. or im thinking about F Bass... or what i really would like is Martin Peterson to build me a Sei Jazz 5.. i owned a Sei 5 string jazz and it was amazing, but the thing is i live so far away from London. has anyone had a Sei bass built for them.?
7. a simple funk bass line. Average White Band Pick up the Pieces.
8. Paul Mcartney didnt play a P bass much in the studio, it was either a Ricky or a Jazz bass, or an upright that was owned by Bill Black who played for Elvis P
9. buy this jazz bass with confidence. ive played many a jazz bass and these are up there with the best with tone and build quality.. great preamp, great pickups. ive played other 24 fret Fender jazz basses and they were just as good. good luck with your sale
10. Ha ha thats awful, what were they thinking. be like driving a Volkswagon with a big VW sign stuck to the roof.. " i play a Warwick"!!!
11. feel/tone/asthetics, is in the eye of the beholder. thats it. there is no argument against thiS. thats it.. i love the tone of my 75 ri jazz. the tone inspires me to play. its just one of those things. doesnt make it right. doesnt make Fender the best bass manufacturer of electric basses... there are alot of basses that have that Fender P bass/ J bass vibe. there are are so many variables to any instrument. we could go into the details... my point is you play what works for you. that be a squire, or a Sadowsky.. i ask one question,.. does your bass help you play good music.?
12. missed this anyone got a link.?
13. Now Then and Forever. is the new album from Earth Wind and Fire. no doubt its still EWF's sound. i care not if it sounds up to date,. they make some fantastic music. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PyV4iMKxjl8
14. Ive been playing bass for 17 years, but in the last 7 years, really wanted something more. dont get me wrong, i so dig my/our instrument. ive always had a passion for harmony, but playing the piano over the recent years, and listening to what is possible between the two has had me in trance. i played with a fantastic keys player from holland on the weekend that cemented the passion that i have for harmony. the bass will always be my go to instrument, but the piano has some amazing musical possibilities. im sure there are lots of guys/girls on BC that feel this way.
15.
Never liked the PJ configuration myself.
dont like it either, the P pickup's look messy on a jazz. gives the jazz a bit more punch mind.
16.
These are confirmed now. Models include a '66 RI Olympic white jazz, tort plate, matching headstock and pearloid block inlays on a rosewood board. Other is a CAR jazz body, pearl block inlays on rosewood board and a P/J pickup config. Look interesting but both going for £1179ish is quite high IMO!
look at the USA model, ok its not a PJ, but my money is on the Japan being as good if not better than the USA models, and way cheaper. ive played so many Fender Jazz basses that are "made in Japan" and every one was from good from outstanding. the only bass i would take over my MIJ 75 is my old Sei Jazz. really cant see how this is a 75 reissue though. why do they confuse people like this.?
17. I was just browsing certain slap bass technique vids on youtube. i realised that i dont use use any left hand percussive elements in my slap playing, i also realised instinctively why i dont.. one thing im really not fond of is overly percussive slap bass, i really think it takes the music/notes away.. i never use triplets or any other intricate techniques for this reason.. dont get me wrong, it adds a great amount of rythmical attributes to the sound, and in a solo its great but in a song i just view it as over kill , but maybe thats why i view slap bass as just another technique, that should be used sparingly, and more importantly, musically. anyone else feel this way.?
18. its great having one bass. its just finding the ONE that is versatile enough and your happy with. the Lakland will tick most boxes imo
19. What a beauty.
20. awsome bass. but im confused. what actually is the price....£2500 or £1975. your stating a trade value but you dont want to trade.?
21. Ive heard alot about this guy. hes very popular on Talk Bass and ive heard lots of people saying hes a great bassist.. although i dont like knocking anyones playing, im wondering what hes all about.? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6rAYOtP2aTs
22.
You're right, he can sound the same on many different basses, even a non Fender! I'm in the process of changing/upgrading my MM to make it as close as possible to the original '77, but just for fun, not because I think it's not good enough. I was able to find the same preamp that Sadowsky installed in early '80s, a Bartolini TCT, I will replace the stock p/ups with the Nordstrand single coils 70s wind and swap the neck with a same look but chunkier profile one, just like the old 70s were, I had 2 '78 and I loved them. Even the stock reverse tuners will go and period correct Fender logo Schaller will be mounted. I have no idea why they put reverse tuners on what it suppose to be a late '70s type of reissue. As today I just had the Bart installed and it already sounds much better, much more clear, more musical, it really makes it sing. It's also more silent, the classic hum of the single coils went down 50%, which I didn't expect. Let's see what happens with the next step, pickups will come in about 3-4 weeks, they make them by order.
are those nordy pickups the standard NJ4's.?
23.
I think Marcus has a few Custom Shop basses , but I know for certain that he has at least one because I remember reading how the Fender Custom Shop had to go to great lengths to find exactly the same preamp as is in his original bass . His famous 1977 Jazz has got a very early Bartolini preamp in it that Roger Sadowsky fitted in the late Seventies / early Eighties , and they had to track one down of the very same vintage to accurately reproduce the sound of his main bass . I expect he has got a few regular production models of his signature bass too , and I sure he sounds just like Marcus on all of them .
in fact before the Bartolini setup. Marcus had a preamp from a company called Stars preamps of New York. thats where he got the inspiration for the bartolini setup with the aid of Roger Sadowsky. a bit of geeky info for you all.
24. was watching this at my sisters and it blew me away. amazing drumming. but George Duke is a master in my opinion. add Mr McBride and its a great combo. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H_UVhVi-3Zg
