im posting for two reasons.. the frickin awsome bass playing on these tracks, and the tracks i dont yet know that im hoping you dudes are gonna post.. this is possibly the some of the best bass playing ive ever heard, willie weeks is on fire on this track.. no flash though, just total groove.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YLUh70zp0LE my second bassline favorite is so embedded into my brain.. imo, its a perfect bass line.. he plays it so so well.......... like alot of bass lines i love, bar the first and third and forth of my posts, there is not alot going on.. but its played with so much good taste.. i think marcus miller is master at this... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pNj9bXKGOiI this bass playing by ernie mckone is just incredible.. ive seen him play and he has a really lazy technique, god knows how he does what he does... his note choices and groove are epic.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZZbAauYiNoc just incredible bass lines to compliment the chords.. jamerson was just the master at doing this style of playing.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YiLxbGJ84Co

play your bass as how you feel comfortable... i love the look of pickup covers on my jazz bass but they get in the way....
Nice, I can't see who that is - Prince? I originally thought D'Angelo!
this is Prince...

i think this guy is one of the best musicians alive today.. yes there are many of them.... he does this live obviously, he used to play keys for chaka khan.. his voice always reminds me of donny hathaway...... this is a fantastic live version of this song..... hope you enjoy http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=endscreen&NR=1&v=BcM7gUDXO8c
McCartney was very much influenced by Jamerson. He introduces the songs on the CD that acompanies the tribute book about Jamerson, called "Standing in the Shadows of Motown".
the dvd is great.. meshel ndegeocello is on it as well as the greats that made up that killer band..

i was just listening to this tune with a drummer friend of mine... he has no idea who donny hathaway is or willie weeks is.... but he stopped me and asked me who the bass player was.. of course i said it was willie weeks on donny hathaways classic.. he was amazed by the bass line, as ive always been... anyways, its a phenominal bass line... imo.. one of the best ive ever heard.... too be honest donny's voice is the best voice ive ever heard.. pure gospel power and control... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YLUh70zp0LE
I don't like it. He doesn't make the song breathe.
couldnt have said it better my self..
Interesting, not once did I think he was being busy, showboating, or being an arse. Everything he did made the song move and the vocal shine.
i was really referring to the fact that he was slapping the part.. as the original is fingerstyle... a bit more going on with the popping etc.. i meant busy in the best sense of the word... busy to me doesnt have to be a negative term, if its done right, and he nailed it.. i have to say his double stop slide at 2.03 is a nice touch..

you
Now that is the sh*t! THAT is how to play with sensitivity and groove, and panache. He's completely at ease with what he's playing and thinking. I can usually tell when someone's head and fingers are disconnected, his are perfectly aligned.
.. you could even say hes being busy, but the core of the song is there.. the root notes of the groove are played but with some flare.. and he leaves space were appropriate...

Fender Made In Japan 90s Jazz Bass For Sale Now SOLD
bubinga5 replied to ash's topic in Basses For Sale
The neck plate has 'FENDER' stamped on it at the top of the plate in capitals, similar to the exploded view of the blue Precision bass in Tony Bacon's 'Ultimate Guitar Book' and also The Haynes Fender Bass Manual (I think!). My brother-in-law has an '88 MIJ Strat with the same style plate. Great quality bass this though!
aahh sorry i thought you meant the fender logo.. my apologies... i had an MIJ in surf green, was a great bass... but it wasnt the higher spec 62 as this is..... -
While playing the rhythm as well as the melody (in places) can work well if done properly it does not work here. As Bubinga says, its just too busy, and as Luke says the bass (or the effect) sounds pretty awfull, so he's on to a loser from the off. I dont like crtitisizing anyone who can play 'better' than i can, it makes me feel something of a fraud, but I calls 'em as I sees 'em. Less is more.
i think recognising what sounds good/bad, or works well, but maybe not having the technical ability yet...., is better than having the technical ability and still not recognising it
The thing is,Bobby Watson's line on 'Rock With You' is already pretty busy. This guy is just taking it that bit too far and not really grooving with it. To be honest,I just don't see the point in what he's doing.
... hes letting people know hes got some chops....
