1. really like this guys playing.. whether you like the genre or not is another matter... very tasteful playing.. imo lovely tone from that VB also... imo a little cluttered later in the vid by the under pinning bass line, but great none the less....
2.
You say "this guy" like it's the first time you've heard of Stevie Wonder.
maybe its because i wrote it twice..
3. been watching this fascinating doc on this this guy and this album... notice dean parks that played with Steely Dan.... further parts are available as you prob noticed... imo, his most easily digestable album is Innervisions, in a popular sense, but this album is his most important album..., http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fLvck_izETE

7. this is a very cool Fender 5.. i take it there is a preamp in this..?
8. erm... where it feels comfortable..?
9. these Bossa's are amazing instruments... there J Basses are very nice also.. wonderful modern tone.... good luck with the sale
10.
Not necessarily. Mass production doesn't appeal to everyone. It's not always about making mega bucks. It is actually sometimes about making the best guitars that you can which is how Leo started out, although he did turn to labour division and machines to increase production which is how it all starts to go horribly wrong. imo!
i cant see your view that it went horribly wrong..? tell that to the millions of people who made hit records and the other people who enjoyed those hit records who played on Fenders... dont get me wrong, i love boutique built instruments, but there only so much engineering that can go into a bass guitar when it comes to sound.... boutique instruments were never meant for the hearing public i guess, there for the player... lets face it its about the music, not the instrument . love your instruments by the way...
11. ive also played some Fenders that keep up easily with the Sadowsky's, Sei's and other high end basses ive owned,.. consistency isnt there best side, but when they get it right they really get it right... imo the thing with the tone side of jazz basses are the single coil pickups... i put some nordy hum cancelling pickups in a custom shop 1970 jazz bass and didnt like it.... great for recording but the jazz bass sparkly and punch just wasnt there..
12.
Just sounds like a simple case of a lazy dealer who can't be bothered to set their basses up properly. Was it, by any chance, a 'generalist' dealer that focuses much more on guitars than basses? I've played some new Fenders that, when properly set up, have been really nice both in terms of feel and playability and core tone. There was one particular 2010 US Standard Jazz that put a lot of expensive basses to shame.
was that the one that we had dealings with Barrie..? if so, yes it was a cracker... the newer standard/deluxe Fender jazz basses are superb imo...
13. £599 for a USA Fender is a great bargain, especially one in this colour
14.
Sounds like you want a Rosewood board Marcus Miller with an East preamp.
Fender dont make a MM with a rosewood board... there awsome with the east preamp though.. i would check out a Lakland JO4, or the new Lakland 44- AJ.. that bass sounds just up your street
15. i think have once posted this before, but for those who dont know its a tribute to JJ by some of the best bassists in the business.. really interesting and great to hear these guys covers of his lines.. this particular one is Pino Palladino... he does it some serious justice.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HDv1aThJKYA
16. wow.. i so dig pino's playing as do i meshell's .. shes very different musician in many ways to pino, as in she writes music for full albums...... two of my favorite bassists/ musicians right there... ive got to be honest, although ive loved meshel for a long time, i get the feeling that she looks up to pino when there talking... hes pretty much the contemporary master when it comes to solid groove playing imo... meshel is a little different in her approach to groove.. imo... thanks for posting..
17. imo.. some basses are worth more to keep them than the selling price...
18. wow, love these in sunburst
19. Just spotted this on Andy Baxter bass.... the first ever Stingray built, wow... what a special bass.... http://andybaxterbass.com/details.php?id=399
20. what a bass for the money
21. with all due respect Discreet the name Guitard is not a good name for some of the best musicians i know...
22.
I don't get this at all. You wouldn't presume to comment on what gear the drummer or guitard are using, so why people think it's acceptable to make a decision about what instrument a bass player uses (when they know nothing about bass playing) is beyond me.
its because know one expects anything else from the guitarist, drummer, etc in a general way.. but in certain bands if you turn up with a 7 string bass they may think...?? i remember turning up to a few guys i couldnt really call a band who wanted to play covers of shawadywady... they turned me away because i was playing a 5.. nothing wrong with shawadywady but why throw someone back because of the instrument... so i turned them down... they were doing shawawdywady badly any way.. excuse me if my spelling is bad
23. i have been listening to this guys playing from the early Galliano years... i have listened to the children of judah and a Push track called gimme some more.. but his playing on these tracks are superb.. usually a laid back bassist but hes being very busy on these tracks... he bounces around those chords so well.. oh ok im a sucker for an incognito jazz funk track this is just superb playing..
