Yes,because I'm basically saying that the performance on the night isn't a major factor. Decisions have been made long ago.
you've lost me too be honest dude. yes the musicians behind it may be great but i will not be persuaded to think that the X Factor is anything but awful.. its not music... and money is the last thing on my mind when it comes to music.... im with the joker -
Black blocks on a maple board look cheap and common to me now. Has to be rosewood with white pearl blocks. Much classier.
im with you.. i dont personally like a maple jazz with black blocks.. maple with pearl block is the way to go.. imo... or rosewood with pearl looks amazing..

is that really worth mentioning Doddy? -
was listening to this album by David Sanborn.. called straight to the heart.. i just love his sax playing, but the intro is beautifully played by Miller. you rarely get to hear him play fingerstyle, but when he does its magic imo.... then you get to his slap playing.. imo its some of the best slap playing ive ever heard.... his solo slap at 2.40 on this track is just off the wall good... imo http://www.youtube.c...&v=gaIe7fknRR0#!

Bass player by choice, or relegated guitarist?
bubinga5 replied to Tuono's topic in General Discussion
have always loved the bass.. started playing because i heard bernard edwards playing on Chic's forbbiden lover and diana ross's my old piano... 17 years, and never looked back... apart from the piano the bass has always been the instrument for me.. and as i, and alot of musicians worth there salt recognise, the bass is the most important instrument in music that has a low end.... the first time i got very excited was when i first played a 75 jazz... imo there isnt a bass tone that comes close to its character... i knew then that was the tone for me.. i have huge respect for other musicians regardless of there instrument, but the bass has always been the instrument that i look out for when i listen to a record.... bass is in my mind and in my blood -
You'd be pushed to notice it recorded. It's a bit of a myth.
maybe recorded.. but i can tell the difference in playing a laquered maple fret board on a jazz to a rosewood fretboard on a jazz.... pickups were different granted but the maple board was a little brighter/harsher/aggressive.. a myth..? maybe it was the pickups...
-
i think alot of confusion is caused by this argument... maple vs rosewood... on a PASSIVE bass maple is brighter than rosewood, especially with a laquered board... when you intoduce an active system its almost impossible to tell

Roger recognised that the Japanese are great at attention to detail, and attention to quality... thats why he went to them... (so ive heard). lovely bass, and i bet it sounds awsome.. congrats...
-
Rhys P said it best.. there is no such thing.. just like there is no best bass, no best music.. everyones hands are different.... different necks for different people.... you could say that a good jazz bass neck is very fast... but for some one with very big hands it may not be as fast to get around.... more nonsense phrases from the world of bass geeks...

erm.... always find it strange that second hand Warwicks are such a bargain but there new prices are very very high....
How can you tell it's genuine?
knowone buys a Fender for this much without being very very well informed about vintage Fenders.... so anyone who is in his right mind wouldnt try a fake one... this looks totally legit to me.. the fact that he wants to meet in person is another tell tail sign...

Which Fender Custom Shop Bass if Money Wasn't a Factor?
bubinga5 replied to molan's topic in Bass Guitars
i had a CS Fender 1970 jazz limited edition, well over £3000 when new, but im sorry to say it was no better than my MIJ 75 non export jazz... when new £2000 cheaper.... the only thing on the custom shop, was it had superior tuners... if i had the cash though ,my god would i go to town...amber flame maple 75 ri, maple with blocks, matching headstock... -
blimey KB is up as late as me!! neither do i watch them, but this evening i happened to be watching it with a couple of friends.. so i started a thread, and its a thread that has brought up an interesting if devided opinion........ is TV not the most powerful media? knowone will change my mind that the music on the x factor is not quality music.... millions of people watch it but just because its popular, doesnt mean its good...it will always be my modest opinion...... mc donalds is popular but is it good for you...
-
If all those millions of people enjoy it, what makes you think that they're in the wrong and you're right? Perhaps it's your taste in music that is dodgy? Or maybe there is no wrong or right and there really is no reason to be bitter because more people like a different kind of music to the one you like? I should say, this isn't aimed at anyone here in particular, just to those who subscribe to the Us & Them in music.
yes your quite right.. but its not really to do with musical taste... im all for people enjoying whatever music they want to listen to... im not forcing anyone to listen to what i might think is 'quality' music... i just have an opinion that certain shows are ruining music. im a level headed fair person and like to be educated by other people,if im wrong my good judgment will admit it..
-
thats a fair point Doddy...some kid might be inspired by a song that girls aloud or there producers have manufactured for them, but thats maybe a handful of kids among millions of teenagers... i will stand by my point that shows like the X Factor are not doing anything positive for the music industry, and millions of kids are being brainwashed into thinking this is what they should expect and is the standard.... sure money is the driving force behind every band ive ever listened to but when it takes over to the point that its all that really matters, its different.. Louis Walsh doesnt care about musical integrity, and his boy bands are his puppets.. he and mr Cowell care about making lots of money, and from that they have done very well.. Berry Gordy or Quincy Jones were the polar opposite to these clowns... i also think Girls Loud make very forgettable pop records... only my opinion.. when was the last time you saw a girl or boy band that were, shall we say... not very attractive, overweight, or not in the cookie cutter mold that we all find apparently, acceptable... i dont give a f*** what you look like.. if its good music keep it coming
-
But again, the quality or how interesting etc is again down to the individual. I can guarantee that there is music that I find compelling and inspiring that others don't. Likewise,I often hear about people raving over bands that bore me to death after a minute.
ok... im walking a fine line here as i dont want to come across as unfair or a snob when it comes to mine,or any individuals musical taste..... a band such as JLS, or Girls aloud are, in there entity bands that make pop records governed by money... ..music like this is my the point of my OP..... is the quality of there music going to inspire younger people... yes they prob will.. will it inspire them to create music that is going to break new musical ground,or create something special... i dont think it will... im aware that these bands are all a bit of fun, but when said bands are pushed in the face of young people.... i think its a detriment to music in the future.. money is the worst thing that ever happened to music, but i guess thats the nature of the beast....
