1. i had a yamaha mo6, but didnt like it very much as it seemed to be orientated around dance music.... im looking for a keyboard that can produce good piano sounds, as well as the classic organ sounds such as rhodes, hammond, moog etc... i guess im a little clueless when it comes to keyboards so im open to suggestions and what to look out for... im also looking at the second hand market... a friend of mine has a Nord C2 and that sounded fantastic, but i know those are very expensive.... my criteria.. want to record via MAC/usb full sized keys 5 octave lots of different organ sounds thanks...
2. you aint wrong blademan... he is superb...
3. raking means dragging one finger on your right hand (if your right handed) to pluck notes.. a slide is a left handed technique(if your right handed) that lets you slide from one note to another, up or down.. there is no right or wrong technique, just what works for you.. but... walking with your fingers (index and middle finger) is the most efficient way of playing.. imo.. or you can go to multiple fingers just remember james jamerson played with one finger..
4. do yourself a favour and buy some LIndy Fralins...
5.
I'm finding that on gigs we're getting more and more younger people turning up, who find Steely Dan quite hip.
i put AJA on when i go to my sisters house and her 2 daughters love it..... they always say "put steely on" i think its great to bring up kids listening to music like that... did me the world of good being subjected to micheal mcdonald and george benson when i was a nipper
6. Lakland without doubt, nothing like a 55-02 neck.. ooh and that tone
7. this is turning into TalkBass.... pick up a bass and play metal.... i doesnt matter what bass your using... ok maybe a daisy rock might look a bit strange imo you should play something different to everyone else and walk your own path .
8.
I like the first album, but the others I tried sounded a bit like lift music.
oh please not the generic lift music cliche.. i hear that so many times... i dont care if its not your preference but dont palm it off in such a way
9.
ok - i know the odd song by them. one album to start with please...
i always think the best way to listen to any new band is to buy "the best of " showbiz kids is a great one... but i think AJA is the one to really hear SD at there best... then maybe a look at Fagans masterpiece the Nightfly.. thats a different kettle of soul altogether mind.
10. clinical maybe but soulless, i cant get my head around..you only have to listen to AJA's title track to know these guys were doing something special, there music like loweregisterhead said, takes me to another place.. but of course this is all a mute point if they dont do it for you...
11.
MB1. Must really try and catch Nearly Dan! cant imagine theres much chance of seeing Steely Dan (or Steeleye span) for that matter
going to see Pete (Nearly Dan) next month in gloucester, looking forward to it Pete...
12. ive been listening to this band for a long time but to this day im still in awe of there stuff..., great sense of humour.. a very sophisticated approach to music, with such a fantastic attention to detail..... as with so many SD albums there is so much going on lyrically and musically.... the more i listen to this band the more i realise how clever they are/were.... If you do not know SD, then listen to these to improve the quality of your daily existance - yep, they"re that good.... imo oh..they got some serious funk also... 14. a 6 string Shuker for £700.!! are you kidding me..??
15. these have an amazing slap tone... and an amazing fingerstyle tone.... i like the tone..
16. i had an oly white 2010 USA standard fender jazz and it was superb... great all round apart from the routing under the pick guard (but i like to take the pickguard off) ... but apart from that it was a fantastic instrument...... i would say the consensous was USA Fenders have never been better.
17. ive always loved his voice.. so recognisable and he hits the notes ok for me..... the music is always impecciablly put together, with amazing harmonies, arrangements, and great playing all round...
18. Looking forward to this album.. for those who might not know its called Sunken Condos.. out october 16th.. just thought i would let you all know, if you didnt already... http://www.cdunivers...233&style=music nice to see Freddie Washington on there..
19. if you want lots of power in the low end a jazz cant compete with a SR 5 HS, i totally dig those basses... but i think for an awsome slap tone and great articulation a 75 in particular has it hands down... nothing like a jazz bass with 70's spacing... just my opinion of course
20. there is a reason why so many copy the design... imo in the whole of the world of electric bass guitars there is nothing that is so versatile and yet so simple...
21. very nice... any trades.. ?
22. I went to London recently, to the jazz cafe, and met up with a long time friend of mine called Mario Moya.. hes a producer from Mexico.. he does some very cool stuff, but recently while in Mexico, he got a guy called Melvin L Davis to play on some of his music... not sure if any of you guys/girls have heard of him... hes always been a favorite bassist of mine... so i was blown away that Mario got him one his projects... anyways this is Melvin with Lee Ritenour on great form.. 23. ive never seen one of these before.... didnt know they came with badasses either, nor the S1 switching... very cool bass...its why they call em hotrods i guess
24. this is a bomb of a track..!!!!...Jonathan Maron's playing on this Groove Collective track is very very good.. class groove from these guys.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eM2FF6BaN8w&feature=related
