1. just been watching this doc on this master... its a great watch.... episodes from 1 to 8.... hope you guys enjoy.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fLvck_izETE&feature=relmfu
2. just thought i would share this... lovely custom colour, matching headstock, amazing condition.... you dont see many like this, if any in this colour.. pity he wont ship international, ive got a spare 12 grand under my bed.. http://www.talkbass....4/#post13436274
3. imo.. i still think an SR5 H has a very specific sound... not versatile imo. you may be able to change the eq but it will still sound like an SR5.. . but what it does it does so well.. super fat focused tone with that awsome subtle growl...
4. very very cool SR5.. you dont see many off these about fretless with this colour combo..
5.
I wouldn't necessarily say it would need to be short scale. Check out Meshell Ndegeocello in this clip (she's playing bass from 3:00 into it). She's 5'0" tall.
yeah but this is Meshell ndegeocello.. maybe not the best example
6. oh my lord..!! what a bass.. imo modern Fender jazz basses dont get any better than these FSR's...
7. these are really cool reissues.. looks killer with the ashtrays... really want one of these as ive heard great things about the build quality.. and no routing under the pickguard on the MM's..!!!
8. i have a 96 non export 75 ri jazz.. i needed to replace the tuners because they are crap, imo.. rattle when not under tension, not too much of an issue but that just me.. i put some USA 75 tuners.. your bass must have been played hard and a huge amount for the frets to be worn... like others have said, leave the bridge.. nowt wrong with it with some good pickups.. imo, japanese stock pickups really dont let the instrument do what it can.. a good set of fender vintage, wizards, or if you want a true awsome tone put in some lindy fralins...
9.
Haven't got any suggestions...but let us know as and when you're doing any gigs in Brum! :-) edited to 'you're' before the gramma police get at me!!/
will do..
10. yeah i like master blaster, lovely little solo in the middle
11.
Anything by 'Chic' matey. My soul band, perhaps now a bit funk too, have just started playing 'I wish'...great fun to play. Other easy cover suggestions would be 'Express yourself,'Move on up'' or 'Long train running'....but if they're proper funkateers then funk up Chameleon or some Jamiroquai ...May the funk be with ya brother!
yeah i was thinking Good Times by Chic... might be an obvious choice though, and doesnt really have many changes in it... thankyou dude...
12. as the title says i have a rehearsal in 2 weeks for said band.. they are doing originals and some covers.. they have asked me to play the bass line to amy winehouse's valerie.. no probs there.. but they have also asked me to play a song of my choice.. .... i immediately thought of 'i wish' by Stevie Wonder... kick ass bass line that most people know and i can play with confidence... just wondered if you guys had any other suggestions, that might be suitable.. needs to be fairly recognisable, up tempo, nothing too simple, and funky... any thoughts..
13. it might be another boring PBass copy but i bet it sells... especially in the US... Labella have a huge following over there for there strings.... i would play it... would i buy one.. would i f&^k....
14. not really finding it difficult to find a band just finding near impossible to find a band whos not doing bloody rock covers... they are endless..!! a real bummer with living in rural ares is everyone plays rock.... there like bloody sheep
15. that is stunning... got to sound bad ass also with the nord /glock combo... i had a lakland 55-01 with the same and it sounded amazing... really fat but focused tone..
16. killer bass.. if only you would take a 70's spacing 75 ri 4 string.. he he...
17. i had a yamaha mo6, but didnt like it very much as it seemed to be orientated around dance music.... im looking for a keyboard that can produce good piano sounds, as well as the classic organ sounds such as rhodes, hammond, moog etc... i guess im a little clueless when it comes to keyboards so im open to suggestions and what to look out for... im also looking at the second hand market... a friend of mine has a Nord C2 and that sounded fantastic, but i know those are very expensive.... my criteria.. want to record via MAC/usb full sized keys 5 octave lots of different organ sounds thanks...
18. you aint wrong blademan... he is superb...
19. raking means dragging one finger on your right hand (if your right handed) to pluck notes.. a slide is a left handed technique(if your right handed) that lets you slide from one note to another, up or down.. there is no right or wrong technique, just what works for you.. but... walking with your fingers (index and middle finger) is the most efficient way of playing.. imo.. or you can go to multiple fingers just remember james jamerson played with one finger..
20. do yourself a favour and buy some LIndy Fralins...
21.
I'm finding that on gigs we're getting more and more younger people turning up, who find Steely Dan quite hip.
i put AJA on when i go to my sisters house and her 2 daughters love it..... they always say "put steely on" i think its great to bring up kids listening to music like that... did me the world of good being subjected to micheal mcdonald and george benson when i was a nipper
22. Lakland without doubt, nothing like a 55-02 neck.. ooh and that tone
23. this is turning into TalkBass.... pick up a bass and play metal.... i doesnt matter what bass your using... ok maybe a daisy rock might look a bit strange imo you should play something different to everyone else and walk your own path .
24.
I like the first album, but the others I tried sounded a bit like lift music.
oh please not the generic lift music cliche.. i hear that so many times... i dont care if its not your preference but dont palm it off in such a way
25.
ok - i know the odd song by them. one album to start with please...
i always think the best way to listen to any new band is to buy "the best of " showbiz kids is a great one... but i think AJA is the one to really hear SD at there best... then maybe a look at Fagans masterpiece the Nightfly.. thats a different kettle of soul altogether mind.
