my other half and her friend have just been watching the X Factor.... ive been accused of being cynical and taking music too seriously... the only people i can turn to for some back up are my fellow bass players.... i hate to be judgmental and a music snob, because everyone enjoys music on different levels.. but i cant help but be annoyed by the total false absolute rubbish that people seem to be taking as the norm... what bothers me is most of the viewing public. especially the younger generation... are being indoctrinated to think this is all that music has to offer... when i was young i was brought up with stevie wonder, chaka khan, steely dan..... ok i was into shakin stevens for a while... :Dbut when i used to listen to music as a nipper it was magical, and that feeling has stayed with me until now and always will... i cant help but think television as a media is peddling the fast food version of music... our younger generation is taking this as the norm when it comes to music, so dont expect much more... over years to come good music is being watered down, personally i expect music to be special, and i dont see anything special in the sh*te that Louis Walsh etc...is producing 40 years ago, the younger generation had the beatles in the charts... excuse my rant...would like to hear other opinions

imo.. i still think an SR5 H has a very specific sound... not versatile imo. you may be able to change the eq but it will still sound like an SR5.. . but what it does it does so well.. super fat focused tone with that awsome subtle growl...
I wouldn't necessarily say it would need to be short scale. Check out Meshell Ndegeocello in this clip (she's playing bass from 3:00 into it). She's 5'0" tall.
yeah but this is Meshell ndegeocello.. maybe not the best example

i have a 96 non export 75 ri jazz.. i needed to replace the tuners because they are crap, imo.. rattle when not under tension, not too much of an issue but that just me.. i put some USA 75 tuners.. your bass must have been played hard and a huge amount for the frets to be worn... like others have said, leave the bridge.. nowt wrong with it with some good pickups.. imo, japanese stock pickups really dont let the instrument do what it can.. a good set of fender vintage, wizards, or if you want a true awsome tone put in some lindy fralins...
Anything by 'Chic' matey. My soul band, perhaps now a bit funk too, have just started playing 'I wish'...great fun to play. Other easy cover suggestions would be 'Express yourself,'Move on up'' or 'Long train running'....but if they're proper funkateers then funk up Chameleon or some Jamiroquai ...May the funk be with ya brother!
yeah i was thinking Good Times by Chic... might be an obvious choice though, and doesnt really have many changes in it... thankyou dude...

as the title says i have a rehearsal in 2 weeks for said band.. they are doing originals and some covers.. they have asked me to play the bass line to amy winehouse's valerie.. no probs there.. but they have also asked me to play a song of my choice.. .... i immediately thought of 'i wish' by Stevie Wonder... kick ass bass line that most people know and i can play with confidence... just wondered if you guys had any other suggestions, that might be suitable.. needs to be fairly recognisable, up tempo, nothing too simple, and funky... any thoughts..

it might be another boring PBass copy but i bet it sells... especially in the US... Labella have a huge following over there for there strings.... i would play it... would i buy one.. would i f&^k....

i had a yamaha mo6, but didnt like it very much as it seemed to be orientated around dance music.... im looking for a keyboard that can produce good piano sounds, as well as the classic organ sounds such as rhodes, hammond, moog etc... i guess im a little clueless when it comes to keyboards so im open to suggestions and what to look out for... im also looking at the second hand market... a friend of mine has a Nord C2 and that sounded fantastic, but i know those are very expensive.... my criteria.. want to record via MAC/usb full sized keys 5 octave lots of different organ sounds thanks...

you aint wrong blademan... he is superb...

raking means dragging one finger on your right hand (if your right handed) to pluck notes.. a slide is a left handed technique(if your right handed) that lets you slide from one note to another, up or down.. there is no right or wrong technique, just what works for you.. but... walking with your fingers (index and middle finger) is the most efficient way of playing.. imo.. or you can go to multiple fingers just remember james jamerson played with one finger..

do yourself a favour and buy some LIndy Fralins...
I'm finding that on gigs we're getting more and more younger people turning up, who find Steely Dan quite hip.
i put AJA on when i go to my sisters house and her 2 daughters love it..... they always say "put steely on" i think its great to bring up kids listening to music like that... did me the world of good being subjected to micheal mcdonald and george benson when i was a nipper

Lakland without doubt, nothing like a 55-02 neck.. ooh and that tone

this is turning into TalkBass.... pick up a bass and play metal.... i doesnt matter what bass your using... ok maybe a daisy rock might look a bit strange imo you should play something different to everyone else and walk your own path .
