1. i would imagine a bass like this would have USA pickups, what do MIMs usually use.... custom color, matching headstock, bigger tuner base.. its almost like a non export CIJ 62..
2. wowzer, seen this one before.. not just the best MIM ive ever seen, but straight up the best 62 RI ive ever seen.. what pickups do these have.?
3. This is some great stuff from a great bass player... for some who might not know, Raphael originated from a 90's soul band called Toni Toni Tone... really nice simple groove playing with a great old school P Bass tone... the keys guy singing at the end is pretty special
4.
Gig bags are EVIL. I've suffered from them doing what your has done. I'm surprised you even think of getting another gig bag (spit!).The only answer is a proper Hiscox case!
i have a Hiscox and an SKB, but i really need to be hands free as im pushing an amp alot to get to a jam
5. Transatlantic RPM and Adventures in Black Sunshine are well worth a listen, some of there best imo.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bm5EZyBCev4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gyv_kuLa0Ec

9. thanks for the comprehensive reply guys... what i really need is, something i can carry on my back, has pockets for a mac book, headphones, leads, etc.. its needs to be lightweight, but very sturdy.... if i dropped it from 3 foot the bass and contents would be ok,.. sort of sturdy. i have to say id do like the look of the black Mono... IGIG has caught my eye also....
10. these are proper boutique Yamaha's... awsome modern growl.... even better than the TRB5 Mk 1's
11. My Tribal Planet bag zip broke the other day... unfortunately the bass was in it, and fell out the bottom... not much damage but it could have been really bad... so i need a new gigbag... Sturdy as possible... I like the look of Mono bags.... anyone got one? any other recommendations welcome.. budget is between 50 and 130
12. i think you have to look beneath the surface... i know of some contemporary slap playing that is very cool... slap is not just loud and aggressive..imo it really doesnt have to be... Listen to Chuck Rainey on Peg... most didnt even know he was slapping.. slap can be very musical... strange you never see huge threads on tapping, or chord strumming... its just another technique...
13. imo i would leave it... my jazz has no pickguard and i dig it... on a side note these basses are awsome.. i played one in a shop in Chester... cant remember the shop name... had lots of pianos at the front with the guitars at the back down the stairs?
14. ive been doing it for years J.. Payment wise alot of people use paypal... ive payed for alot of basses up front and with the good ole basschat community, i felt assured.. it really depends on who you are buying from... sometimes if possible a meet up is good.... my last bass was bought from Simon.. we had a chat on the phone after a few PM's.. i sent him payment... he sent me the bass... caution is sometimes a good thing,as not everyone is reliable as Simon and others..
15. im guessing you know of the EQ inside the control cavity on the TRB5's..?
16. i loved the tone from the soapbars in my old TRB5.... i reckon some fatstacks would sound great though..
17. This my old bass.... its not a Genesis and the pickups are not active... it has the Bart 2 band preamp... top of the line VJ4 with the full graphite works...
18. another killer track.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FDqO4nxk3xI
19. i have a jam every friday with local musicians.. we usually get a very cool groove going, with a horn, percussion, drums, guitars etc.... this young guy came along called Steve... he had a budget ish kit... a little percussion stand to his right.... i sh*t you not, this guy was epic..!!.. ive played with alot of drummers in my time but this guy was off the wall.... 23 years old and can play with such sensitivity, maturity and dynamics... this guy was about as good as i could possible want a drummer to get.... think billy cobham crossed with Poogie Bell in the groove, and that would be close... people never cease to amaze me.... i never tire of playing bass to a drummer like that.. do you know anyone who is totally killer on an instrument
20.
I wouldn't call it robotic...I think it really grooves and that the synth bass(with electric bass in the bridge) sounds perfect for the track. It's one of my favourite lines to play on synth. When you say 'traditional' instruments....what,like double bass, banjo, acoustic guitar?
i think the overall impression he has is that it sounds electronic.. and i agree with him, but look a little deeper and it has more... but all said and done.... i know what you mean Bottom E...but i think it gets the job done, of a classic pop song very well..
21. i was having a bit of a jam tonight.. and at the end this track was playing across the speakers.... i personally think its the perfect pop song... it has the best pop voice of its day, he fused it with pop funk, its got the best musicians of its day.... and it makes you want to dance, and it sold millions... ok this was a while ago.. but i cant think of any track in the last 20 + years that can top it for pure pop greatness .. or pure talent... do you have favorite pop classic..?? he really did know how to make a killer track... imo... 22. imo.. funk is nay more laid back than this..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LhtlEZy6uO0
